Picks win prizes

Ryan Tannehill has exploded into major contention for the top five to ten picks in the draft and gives the Rams the opportunity to stockpile some more picks. The major issue would be that with a number of factors in his favour, (or favor as I am writing about an American team) for instance the success of Andrew Dalton, his athletic ability and the major need of teams to find a franchise QB. Any of the six teams picking after the Rams could find him a very exciting addition and I believe that anywhere below the Rams will be viewed as too soon.

The opportunity the Rams have of gaining more in terms of picks reminds me greatly of front office moves in basketball where they clear space and stockpile picks waiting for the next star to become available. I am of the belief that gaining extra picks for the future draft/drafts could be the way the Rams should view any further draft positional changes. With the talent levels in this draft I believe we already have enough picks and should look to stockpiling picks for the future in the case that the next Megatron becomes available. Focus on both offensive and defensive lines, solidify Bradford as an upright OB who is safe when dropping back and get the franchise into a position to make a move and add weapons when the time comes. Not overspending on free agents but having draft picks is the key to success.

An important factor for the team going forward is coaching the talent and not allowing the picks we make in the fifth, sixth and seventh round to simply walk away. Any successful Super Bowl team has had lower round picks make an enormous contribution and I think patience and continued shrewd moves will see the St Louis Rams flourish under the new regime.
