You're the GM. Who do you draft?
Like many of you here at TST, I am in full blown armchair GM mode now as to how to turn the Rams around. Between the draft, free agency and the coaching carousel, I have my opinion as to what roster moves the Rams should be making in the coming months. But I always enjoy seeing what other knowledgable, well-informed Rams fans think we should do to turn us back to contenders again.
In the truly insane number of mock drafts that are floating around out there, the general consensus is that the Rams will be spending their first couple of draft picks on an OT and a WR - probably the two biggest positions of need on the team. But I'm really curious to see what you other TSTers think of this. If YOU are the GM for the draft, what do you do with the first 2 picks???

I Would
Attempt to trade back and get as many picks as possible. If I got two 2nd round picks, and traded back to the sixth pick of the first round; my selections would be:
1. Kendall Wright
2. Zach Brown
2b. Doug Martin
I like that ValdezY
That’s 3 fixes right there imop. Scoring threats a pair, and the dreaded OLB.
This Is Why IMO.
Kendall Wright over Jeffery and Floyd: IMO I think Wright and Floyd are the better of the the three WR’s. My reasons:
a. It is tough to jam either Floyd or Wright at the LOS. Floyd is quick and powerful. He uses his hands well to fight off jams. Wright uses extreme quickness and the threat of world class speed which gives him a decided edge. Jeffery is a big strong WR. It was hard to grasp why he had trouble disengaging from certain CB’s at the LOS. Casey Hayward played him primarily in man. He left very little cushion between himself and Jeffery. On more than one occasion Jeffery had trouble getting into his route b/c of Hayward’s jam. Jeffery had a fine game statistically against Dennard of Nebraska. That was the one where both he and Jeffery were kicked out for fighting. Dennard gave up some big plays to Jeffery; but throughout the game Dennard the smaller player, played Jeffery physical and was able to delay him at the LOS.
I gave Wright the edge over Floyd b/c of speed. They both have great hands, get off the LOS, make plays after the catch, and use route running to effectively set up the DB’s. The difference is here. Wright has that all world speed and elusiveness that just cannot be taught. He is IMO a more dangerous option in the passing game. Just my opinion.
How bout
1.6 Riley Reiff OT
2.1 Lavonte David WLB
2.7 Brandon Thompson DT
3.2 Cyrus Gray RB
4.1 Joe Adams WR/KR/PR
4.7 Jerry Franklin SLB
6.1 Brad Smelley FB/TE
7.2 Charles Mitchell SS
I think this is the best way to get the positions we need in the draft
Draft
GET Claiborn after we trade down to #4 and with the #22 you get the best talent on the board. We need David or Brown and then Get Fuller from Texas A&M in the late 2nd or 3rd. we will either get that # 22 pick or we could get another 2nd and 3rd plus next years #1. I like that Franklin pick as well. We don’t need amazing weapons to win games, we just have to run the ball and play Defense!
If we trade down to 4 and Blackmons still there
we have to take him. second pick best OT left. BPA after that

I'd want to listen to all trade offers
Ideally I’m sure the Rams want to trade down to 4, pick up the 22nd pick in the process, and draft Blackmon. However if Cleveland is not willing to trade up, then I’d look at the Redskins and what they’re offering. Who knows who else is willing to trade up, maybe the Chiefs? However they would be picking 11th or 12th, so I’d want half their draft and more picks next year. The best situation though would be to trade down though either way.
If it’s Cleveland at 4 I take Blackmon.
If it’s Washington, it really depends who falls. If Blackmon is there at 6, thats it pick is in before they even announce the Rams are on the clock. If Claiborne is still there I take him. Otherwise I look at Reiff, Still, Brockers, and Kendall Wright. I’m leaning towards Reiff in that situation.
If KC trades up, then again depends who falls, but I would look at Jonathan Martin, Devon Still, Brockers, DeCastro, and Kendall Wright. I’d want Wright there, he’s an explosive wide reciever, and the Rams need some speed. Devon Still scares me and its unfair but the last standout Penn State defensive tackle the Rams drafted was Jimmy Kennedy.
