2012 offseason
Let me start by saying this is my first post. I have been reading this site for about a year. I think it is interesting to see the different ideas people come up with in Mock drafts. Pre-draft is always one of my favorite times of year.
With the #2 overall pick being so valuable this year, I think it looks very likely the pick gets traded; probably to the Washington Redskins, who hold the #6 pick in the first round. In a trade, I'd like to get not only the #6 pick, but also, the Redskins 2nd, 3rd, 5th 2012 picks, as well as their 1st round pick next year. The one thing I think people may be overlooking though, is the value of the Rams first pick in the second round.
The old regime was reluctant to pull the trigger on draft day deals, but after cutting so many young players last year it left our roster depleted of any real quality depth. I would really like to see them pick up an additional top 100 pick by dealing that pick. That will give us the #6, plus two 2nd rounders, three 3rd rounders, and picks in the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th rounds.
There is a lot of talk about acquiring corner back Cortland Finnegan in free agency, but I would not be surprised if he gets the franchise tag. If that's the case, Michael Griffin and Jason Jones are logical ex-Tennessee Titans to target and Tracy Porter could be a nice addition to the Rams corner back depth chart.
It looks like there will be a deep pool of wide receivers in free agency and any of them would be a plus. For value, I like Mario Manningham. We could then address OL, WR, RB, and LB needs in the draft.
Thanks for letting me waste a few minutes of your day. What do you think?
