3-4 or 4-3 opine on your favorite and what the Rams could do.
I know the Rams are lacking in age and talent at most positions on the Rams current defensive roster barring left and right defensive ends. I realize the Rams have run a 4-3 since I don't know when. Would you like to see the Rams try thier hand at a 3-4 in the future after aquiring the right amount of talent to do it? I realize the Rams need depth at all linebacker positions. They need conerbacks and youth in the secondary all together. They need youth and talent at both DT positions and some may say it would't hurt to add some depth still yet at either defensive ends. All that aside it is clear they are equipped to only run a 4-3 for the next couple of years. Obviously, they couldn't fathom converting to a 3-4 next year nor would it be feasible. I would like to hear from those of you who know what it would take. Who do we have that would fit in a 3-4 system? I know you need an anchor nose tackle. A big mean dude that can be the gate keeper. First and foremost you would probably need a great group of 5 or more LB's that possess size, mobility and strength. Chris Long and Robert Quinn will likely be our starters at left and right end next year. Are they both big and strong enough? My thoughts would be. Long would fit. Quinn could do it but would almost make a better linebacker in a 3-4. IMHO a 3-4 scheme needs big defensive ends that can take on double team blockers and are very strong with great lower body strength. We are too old and lack depht on the D line period and that goes for whatever scheme they go with. In the secondary well what can I say, that is our achilles heal. We need conerbacks and that's with an S as in plural. We need help on the edges. At saftey we are ok. James Butler is going to be 30 next year and is decent with decent size. Darien Stewart is young has promise. Craig Dahl might not be back next year. That's it, those are my thoughts and as with past posts I know some of you will certainly disagree and I welcome it. Please leave your thoughts and describe how you would turn this defense around.
