This one may be my last post of the season. "Applause!" I am just about catatonic. A month or so ago the Rams
stood at a remarkable 3-2 and were going off to face the weak Miami Dolphins
and their rookie QB. I looked at the schedule ahead. I figured we'd defeat Miami, get beat by NE, GB and SF and then knock off the Jets
for a 5-5 record and still be in the playoff hunt.
Wow was I wrong! Our offense comes up with 1 TD and 2 FG's in a half-hearted effort against Miami. The big flopper turned out to be the least suspected; Legatron missed 3 FG's. Next up our rebuilt defense, complete with three 1st rounders on the D-Line, JL and Dunbar at LB plus Finnegan and Jenkins at CB and the highly paid Mikell gives up 75 points in 2 games. I fully expect the same thing to happen at SF, but after we gain a quick 14 point lead I'm interested. Then a series of miscues, penalties and stoopid coaching costs us a clean win over our biggest rival. We caught them on a bad day and should've registered an upset. Didn't happen. Everybody's fault.
Today was the final straw. We get the reeling Jets at home. These guys were 3-6 and just got smashed to smithereens by the Seahags. I figured this game was ours to lose, and we did it. It was a total team failure except for the soon-to-be departed S-Jax. Bradford sucked. He couldn't inspire or instill confidence in anyone. The return of Saffold, Givens, Jenkins and Wells(?) sure didn't help. The D-Line was atrocious once again. Quinn was invisible. Long registered two, count 'em two, sacks that went for naught. Overall, Sanchez had all day to pass and made the best of it. The Jets RB's sliced thru our D-line and LB's like a hot knife thru butter. Once again the defense, for the 4th game in a row, came away with nary a turnover. On special teams, a kick return for a TD was called back on a questionable holding call. While the Jets had no turnovers, Sam fumbled once and threw a perfect INT another time. A 7-0 lead goes to a 27-7 deficit. Then after we scored our 2nd and final TD, I was pleading; "don't go for 2 points." Make it 27-14. But no we had to have the "13 point death score" as VTRamsfan calls it; 27-13. Any hope of victory was gone at that point.
Sooo, 10 games into the season, I'm totally embarassed by my team for about the 8th striaght year. Every team member is playing bad and the coaches are worse. Furthermore, on a team this talent bereft, 2nd rounders like Quick and Pead should be playing unless they're complete nincompoops. Now I know everyone will rant; "hater," "faithless," "improvement." Frankly, I don't giva shit. This team is putrid to the core. I'm sick of watching them play and lose.
