The St. Louis Rams have a new punt returner.

The St. Louis Rams are keeping Janoris Jenkins busy this season. The rookie cornerback has played all but five defensive snaps through five games this season. This week he gets another task added to his plate: punt returner.

Jenkins is taking over for Danny Amendola, who is out for a month or more after injuring his clavicle in Week 5 against the Cardinals.

"Danny's done so much and is so comfortable with everything and gets it," Jeff Fisher said of his usual return man. "He's hard to replace but ‘Jenks' is very explosive. We've seen what he can do with the ball in his hands and we just have to get it in his hands and give him some space."

Punt returns are not a new thing for Jenkins, who handled those responsibilities in college. He took three punts all the way home for touchdowns with North Alabama last season. The year before, 2010 at Florida, he returned 18 punts for a total of 150 yards and no touchdowns.

Needless to say, Fisher was confident in the rookie's ability to handle the task, framing it in simple terms.

"Ball security and good decisions, that's all," Fisher said. "Then obviously, ‘Jenks' has run skills and he's done a good job, I'm not concerned about it."
