Schottenheimer the new OC?
Adam Schefter reporting that Brian Schottenheimer visiting with Jeff Fisher in Nashville today. Could he be the Rams new offensive coordinator by the end of the day? His name has certainly been tied to the Rams over the past couple of days. And with the 49ers win over the Saints yesterday, Gregg Williams is one hunting or fishing trip with Jeff Fisher away from being our next DC. What are you thoughts on that tandem of coordinators, and what should our expectations (wins) be if that does indeed end up being the scenario?
The Jets have been unable to make it to the promise land even though the team is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. Some may point the blame at Schottenheimer's offense, though the quarterback play is highly questionable. Williams, who definitely puts together an exciting defensive scheme got scorched by the 49ers yesterday. Having seen that, did your opinion on whether or not he's the right fit for the job change?

as long as he stays for a few tears i like it
dont want sam being like alex smith and change every season
One thing I was closely watching yesterday was the Williams Defense
And clearly it could have been better. But, it was hard to tell what might have been if not for all the TOs by the NOLA offense and special teams. So it was hard to tell, but I think Williams will be a good hire and his defense could be fun to watch. As far as Schottenheimer, I don’t really know too much about him, although Sanchez didn’t seem to progress very much under his tutelage. That could, of course, have everything to do with Sanchez and nothing do do with Schottenheimer. In the end, I trust that Fisher will get the right guy and the coaching staff will be stable for a while.
Pass on Williams
I’d like to see the Rams go after Mike Nolan if he comes available due to coaching changes in Miami.
Not going to happen
Nolan runs a 3-4, Fisher and Williams are 4-3 guys, not to mention being best buds.

2 things in mind
Williams sucked yesterday, he caught VD. Everyone and their mom knew the ball was going to Davis, yet he couldn’t stop it from happening.
Williams gave up 30 to the lowly Rams.
I’d rather have someone else. Bring back Flajole. He’s taken heat for running a crappy defense, but you can polish a turd all you want, but it’s still a turd. No talent at OLB and DT means your run game is going to suck.
An impressive performance by the Niners yesterday
Vernon is a match up nightmare. Williams could have called the perfect play and Vernon would still be a problem to contain. Its not like Vernon was wide open, he had a man under and over on the play. Williams couldn’t cover run on the field and do it. At some point the blame has to fall on the players too.

You play him zone
He sits in the hole and gets a TD. At some point the two men on Vernon have to make a play. I trust a double man way more than I do a zone

Oh I agree
problem was it wasn’t double but straight up. You don’t do that to a big athletic fast TE with a small DB. He’ll win 99% of the time.
Wolf. Wolfgang Wolf
i think you should watch that game winning TD to vernon
their linebackers didnt pick up on the play fast enough and it was too late. one linbacker didnt even move and vernon ran right behind him.
Nolan is heavily overrated
I remember the great coaching job he did in San Fran and his Denver defense.

schottenheimer
He would be a terrible hire IMO Jets fans absolutely hated him and had hoped he would leave or get fired. He was the one person every Jet fan would agree that had to leave. Maybe it was Mark Sanchez’s fault but a part of the blame has to be placed on schottenheimer.
Umm
If we want to go back to the WCO maybe Brad Childress..

Where does the Mustache-Madness end?!

Been losing sleep over Rams football since 1999.
Steven Jackson is a beast, a legend, a HoFer and should be treated as such.
Greg Williams is out. We'll have an all mustache coaching staff this year.
Incidentally half of the staff will be unable to participate in community events that feature children. No more building playgrounds.

Schottenheimer would be an awful hire
The dude had average to flat out poor play from his QB but I am of the firm belief Sanchez is simply not a croyell qb. A WCO suits hi skillset better, and there were too many instances of Schott either making the offense super vanilla or simply too much. I detect a poor feel for play calling and utilising the talent t his disposal.
Also, if you can’t successfully use the talent he had at his disposal in NY then theres absolutely no way he’d have a cle what do here. McD proved play action and deep shots would not work itch this line and we don’t have a Munchsk calibre OL coach in place either.
I’m begging for a true WCO coach like Tom Clements of GreenBay to step in and build an offense tht suits Sam Bradford, not Fishers archaic approach to offense. And yes, you can still be. Tough physical running team while using the WCO, just look at San Franciso (regrettably)

i didn't hate it at all
i hated how it was being called.
in fact I’m a huge advocate of the WCO over any other offensive system.
What I saw was that Schurmer needed that #1 WR like AJ Green to make it work.
We didn’t have that. Should we get Jeffrey, Blackmon, Dwight Jones or possibly Sanu we could run a very effective WCO.

Good one
Sounds points. For once I agree with you infemous.
thank you
and how do you feel now that he has been hired?
Personally I’m beyond disgusted.

I am starting to feel that way now
I was excited but I kinda feel like now Sam is in trouble. And so are the Rams.

We will find out tonight
after Jeff Fisher finishes up an entire day of playing Nintendo’s ‘Duck Hunt.’ If nothing else, you’ve got to appreciate his understanding and knowledge of a classic.
In all seriousness, I’m not sold on Schotty myself, but I feels as though Fish has been given full authority to make these decisions, and I think he KNOWS who he wants. I’m not sure this interview is any different than the one he’s going to give Williams
advice for doubters on schottenheimer
He was the one that got mark sanchez back to back AFC Championship appearances, So jets fans that I think that u are the ones that should be concerned rather than doubting him.

Story of Favre's career tho
Minnesota also had Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin (who is underrated) and Sidney Rice. Notice the year after, when those players got injured. Favre SUCKED. Personnel versus coaching

Jets had personell it was the system in that case
2008 was Jones best year
The Jets had a dynamic speed back in Leon Washington
One of the best O-Lines in recent Jets history.
I think it was more Schotty, but that could be because I’m a sour Jets fan.
I am a little weary of Schotty now
I have a feeling that this is going to kill Sam’s career. He is already struggling to find his stride.

trust me
we’ve already looked at that angle. But if you look at the facts, the defense and special teams got us to the AFC Championship games. Despite a Pro Bowl caliber offensive roster, the offense was always the slacker.
Watch a couple of our games and you’ll see how excruciating the play calling is.
I would dissagree
that Williams did that poor of a job considering the offense had 5 turnovers in the game. also think schottenheimer would be a good hire
Regardless of what we think about signing (or not signing) either fella
We as fans, and Kroenke as the owner, gave that authority up a few days ago…..Mustache rules!
Hello boys, I wanted to give you a gift.
This is page one of Schotty’s playbook. Enjoy.

the pic is funny
anything has gotta be better than what we had last season. I’m not sure why McDaniels wanted to ruin us, but he succeeded. We’ll see how this works out, though. Our fearless, mustached leader seems to think he’s the right fit. So for now, I’ll trust his judgment
No nothing is better.
Schotty is like Justin Beiber, on paper you think how bad could it be. So you say okay you crawl into bed with BS, thinking you know, maybe it was his old girlfriend that was the problem in that relationship, didn’t give him everything he needed to be happy and wonderful. So you turn out the lights and have some fun. And for a while it seems fine, then one day you wake up and son of a B its the herp and its infected everyone in the house. Then you try to get rid of the freeloader but it spread to the GM and owner and they apparently like having it so they ignore your complaints and concerns before long, you need to burn everything to get rid of the infection.
That joke started off well but I think it got weird and creepy by the end.

Yeah your f-ed
Bradford might as well assume the position, unless he’s got an IQ of 287 to decipher that playbook.

That is a perfect description of life with Schotty as OC
LOL!
Love with a LEO is like a drug.. One taste and your addicted!
I'm certainly not one to tinkle on other peoples parades
but um…what is actually appealing about Schotty (or as we like to call him, B.S.)? There were two productive years (mostly rushing) under him, and every other year he ran a bottom ranked offensive unit. Schotty predates both Mark Sanchez and Rex Ryan. He outlived several coaches and assistants yet never took the fall for the most consistently underperforming unit through multiple tenures; his unit.
Mark Sanchez, Brett Favre, Kellen Clemens, and Chad Pennington have all failed to perform under Schotty. All went on to be serviceable or good elsewhere later, except Sanchez who has been under Schottenheimer his whole pro career. Maybe he just stinks, but I’d like to give Mark another shot under a new (competent) OC.
I’m really not thrilled with the Jets Sparano acquisition either. Much like Schotty, it defies logic and seems detrimental on paper.

Rams, or Fisher, moved quickly on this one
I’m not 100% certain he’s the right pick or not. Clearly, the Jets concerns warrant a certain level of attention. The only thing I know of the Jets, and that’s just from what I see, is that Mark Sanchez is ruining the team with his poor performance and lack of execution. Again, I haven’t paid enough attention to the play-calling to know who to blame. What, specifically, about Schotty makes him so terrible in your opinion?
Namely the play calling
Most GGN’ers will attest to extremely predictable and ineffective play calling over the years. Schotty also has a tendency to get cute or gimmicky, especially when he has time to prepare. He never really seemed to use any of his best players to their strengths. Most frustrating is that you could sit there and actively call his plays before the happen. Communication is also a huge problem, leading to countless timeouts, penalties, even safeties.
Sure, some of that falls on Sanchez and the diminished line. To be fair, no QB has ever done very well under Schotty, including all the former Jets I mentioned before, AND Drew Bress in SD when he was an assistant attached to the passing game for his father with the Chargers.
The most successful Sanchez has ever been are in high pressure situations, 4th quarters, 2 minute drills, no huddles and hurry ups, and audibles. Also he’s very effective on post season road games where Schotty has limited planning time. The common theme in Sanchez’s success moments are they are the times where he had the least amount of preparation with Schottenheimer. Most other times the kid is a dud.
Sanchez has shown promise, especially in playoffs. Schottenheimer largely hasn’t. I’d like to give Mark one more year under a different OC, ANY other OC at this rate.

Haha....I hear that
My concern now is that Sam, are slowly becoming disengaged young QB is facing a new offense for 3rd straight year. We’ve got to get some continuity in our offense. To your point though, our offense line took a huge step backwards last year, and injuries aside, is highly overpaid and way underperforming. You might’ve guessed it, but we’ve got a quite a few holes to fill this offseason if our offense is going to improve, and Schottenheimer is going to get a chance to play a large role in that. I can assure you, though, he’ll be the first one called out by Rams fans if his shit aint straight!
It could work
If Fisher pulls rank and uses his experience and name as a longtime HC, perhaps he can get Schotty to rid of his bad habits, bad playcalling.
Also, Bradford I think is on another level compared to Sanchez. I’ve always thought he would be a young elite QB like Stafford. His greater accuracy compared to Sanchez will make things work better in Schotty’s system.
I really like Bradford so I’m hoping Schotty doesn’t destroy his potential like a lot of us have felt he’s done with Sanchez.
2 straight AFC championship appearances is bad is it?
"Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no PLAYOFFS."
Winston Churchill
it's not that we (Jets) got there. It's how we got there.
And every Jet fan knows it’s in spite of the offense.
SMASH hard facts
Schotty only cleared the bottom third in offense/passing, with Farve under center and the next time with 2 #1s at WR, with the team’s former #1 at #3.
It took Rex Ryan with his smashmouth approach and power defense, to get us to those games.
And it took Tom Moore to get is to #1 redzone efficient offense in the NFL

unfortunately my comrades here at TST are hard of hearing or plain hard headed – have to feel it to believe it, don’t heed wise words of warning.
I’d know coz I was one of like 3 people who thought the McD hire was garbage.

From what I've seen I'd rather have McDaniels and hope he gets his shit together than Schottenheimer
Seems like everyone is getting excited for change for changes sake. Honestly this alone makes me severely question Fisher. I hope I’m wrong, but I think this may have been one of the worst pick ups he could have made. Shittenheimer here we come.

Just really don’t want Schottenheimer.

I like 'em both.
You don’t stay in this league by being bad. I think they are solid and with a pro like Fisher keeping them in line, we should do well. Eventually, Schotty may develop into a pretty innovative OC. To me, the Jets O was just like their head coach—kind of scatter brained. Rex should have handled Schotty like a supervisor should. Fisher probably won’t leave any doubts about who the team should reflect. I think Williams needs a firmer hand too. Too many whacky pressure packages often lead to coverage issues. Sean Peyton might be the anit Rex. —way involved in the offense and letting the D run on its own.
you do stay in this league if your daddy has a great career
lineage and nepotism is a disgusting thing, and unfortunately is given great precedence in the NFL.

Bradford
may not have to learn this system. There is always a chance he gets traded and we keep RG3, why you ask?
1. Fisher likes a running team, and a running QB
2. Free up cap space by getting rid of Sam’s contract
3. The Fish man can start from square 1, with his own QB
The play calling will remain to be seen
But if he can fix this o-line, he’s alright by me. We were inoperable on offense last year. If he knows who our best player is, he should appreciate that we need to run the ball and run it effectively. If SJAX isn’t going anywhere, neither are the Rams
