A Titans Fan's Perspective On Your New Coach
I am a huge Titans fan and have been since the days of the Oilers. I live 2 hours away from St. Louis and love the Cardinals. With the addition of Coach Fisher, the Rams have moved up to my #2 NFL team. I have to admit, they were waaaaaaayyyyyy back there before this (still not over Super Bowl loss). Anyway, on to Fisher.
A lot of Titans fans were sick of him and ready for him to leave. They got tired of his conservative style and tired of 8-8 seasons. I am not one of those. Even though Munchak did a nice job this year, I really miss Coach Fisher.
Be patient with him. He will not turn the team around over night. He will get the defense going well before the offense. He is conservative, but he does a great job managing games (time outs, challenges, etc.) Expect Jackson to get a lot of carries and expect Brown to kick a lot more FG's.
One thing about him is he always dominated the NFC. I think in your division he will be a great fit. I'll be pulling for the Rams at all times except when they line up against the Titans!

Not sure if you'll check back
But just wanted to say…thanks for the Titan’s perspective! It’s good to hear.
I have a question for you…how much truth do you see to the “Bud Adams is the cheapest owner in the NFL” stories that have been going around the last two weeks? As a fan, do you feel like Fisher could have had a better record with a better owner?
Bud Adams
I think Adams was very supportive of Fisher. He always stood up for him and did for 16 years. He hired him as a young, inexperienced coach and let him stay through some rough times (move to Tennessee). Adams definitely has his faults. He is cheap, but he does want the titans to win.
I will check back from time to time so feel free to ask questions. I’m serious about liking the Rams a lot more, that should tell you how much I think of Coach Fisher!
This question is as a USC fan.
Do you miss Coach Kennedy Pola? Dude is the best RB coach we’ve had since, well, since he coached at USC the last time lol.

Oh LOL was he hired that offseason he left?
I thought you had him for CJ’s 2k season.

I think we can all deal with the conservative approach
As long as it makes sense. The 49ers for example. They are pretty conservative, but they play great defense and get points when they need to. Our focus needs to be getting Bradford going, and scoring points. Scoring will help the offense, and the defense. Too many 3 and out’s last year got the defense tired and then they would start to give up those big plays.
Sam Bradford
With Brown...
being such a good kicker he will get conservative once they are in FG range. Play good defense, score some points and stay in the game. Gregg Williams is a nice addition as well. The Rams have really helped themselves today.
Who do you think he could hire as next OC?????!
WE SUCK. THAT IS ALL.

Not sure on this one...
Mike Heimerdinger was always a favorite of his…unfortunately he lost his battle with cancer last year. I would expect someone young and possibly inexperienced. However he will find a good “teacher” for Bradford.
Nice to hear,
it’ll be a very welcome addition to have some good game management around here.

hmm we already have the defense going,
it was the historically bad offense that kept it from succeeded. Even the marginally better 2010 offense resulted in a huge difference in wins (although the strength of schedule also changed).
Check out my card collecting blog at www.cccollecting.blogspot.com!
Glad the defense is already good...
I really don’t know much about the Rams D. He’ll make them better. I’m hoping Lloyd stays. Even with a solid D, I’m guessing he goes that way with your first pick.
You'll like Jeff Fisher
Reasons why his winning percentages were not better:
1. First years were spent in a limbo moving the franchise and it getting a new identity (at one point they played in Memphis)
2. Boneheaded GM (and owner) decisions. Jeff Fisher wanted Jay Cutler, not VInce Young, for example.
3. Was in same division as Payton Manning. Nuff said,
Note that Fisher wanted a team that would not be moving, had a good quarterback, and would let him be a part of player personnel decisions. Bradford’s gonna be great once he gets some good protection. Steve Jackson will be better as well. Don’t look at his record and say he wasn’t good. He was what was keeping the Titans from hitting the skids during that time.
Also...
Fisher wanted Devan Hester but the team ended up picking LenDale White instead. That one still hurts.
Yelp I read conservative and already im ready for him to leave...
Bradford + Blackmon = Secondaries Beware

But
What if conservative leads to wins? I’d rather have a dynamic, fun-to-watch offense as well, but winning games will in itself be dynamic and fun to watch for me.
I just dont want to see what happened with
Shurmer happen again, losing us games because he’s afraid to open up the playbook..

Shurmer didn't open up his playbook and we were 7-9......
Mc D opened his playbook and we were 2-15….in no way am I endorsing Shurmer but 7-9 would be a great way to start with Fisher and a marginally opened playbook wouldn’t you say?

As a Titans fan...
Earlier you mentioned your belief that he will draft defense with the 1st rd pick. But we, as fans, have been pained by watching ineffectiveness by the offense, namely the O-Line and WR corps. My brother in law is from Nashville and I have watched plenty of Titans games with him over the years and during Fisher’s tenure they always seemed to have quality O-Line play. A few questions for you:
1) Do you think he will simply draft defense with the 1st rd pick simply on principle, even though the Rams are in desperate need of offensive playmakers, ie Blackmon?
2) Was the O-Line play a matter of position coaching and player development, the scheme, or the players themselves? Or a bit of all 3? The Rams O-Line was a mess this year and many are hoping for Matt Kalil with the 1st rd pick, but will Fisher instead try to work with the talent the Rams already have and develop them?
3) What do you think of Lake Dawson and Dowell Loggains, as it has been widely rumored that Fisher might be looking at them for positions with the Rams?
As you know, the Rams have been so bad these last 8 or so years that the fans are always looking toward the draft. A Titans fan’s perspective on his potential draft strategy is welcome. Thank you so much for your insights and wishes and I hope our teams may meet again in the Super Bowl in the near future!
Hey, I am from MCM and a huge Titans fan. I was just checking the fanbase to see the reactions of signing Fisher.
I think Fisher is a really good coach, but you guys will need to give him time. He is REALLY conservative, and more of an old school guy, in that he prefers playing smash mouth football (ie. running and defense are his forte). I actually prefer old school football, but to each their own. As for your questions, here are my thoughts:
1) No, he will not simply draft defense. I can guarantee you that he will look at BPA and team needs together in drafting the players. Also, I think Fisher would rather fill the holes first rather than stock piling at certain positions.
2) The O-line play was 99% Mike Munchak (current coach and the former o-line position coach). Honestly, Munchak is one of the best in teaching o-line technique, and he works wonders with mid round players. In fact, none of our starters are from the first round, with Roos being our earliest pick (2nd round) and most of our other starters were picked beyond the 4th round. In terms of your team, I am pretty sure Fisher will hire a solid o-line coach, who will probably work around the players you guys already have, BUT if necessary, he will draft players if there is a lack of talent. However, I am not sure if he will spend the second pick on an o-line guy, as we have never done so because we could rely on Munchak grooming less talented guys and make them into credible starters.
3) I personally like Loggains, he is well respected. I dont know much about Dawson, sorry (dont wanna give you guys any false information)
To summarize, I am not too sure about your draft plans as it depends on your position coaches (cause we could count on Munchak grooming midround guys, we could focus on other positions in the early rounds). However, I am pretty sure he will focus on needs as his primary concern. The one thing about Fisher is that he is an AWESOME in-game coach, as he knows all the rules, can handle timeouts and challenges. As well, he will hire solid coaches as part of his coaching staff because he is very well respected around the league, and many players and coaches want to be part of Fisher`s team.

I agree with a lot of what infinity said...
1) I really don’t know the specifics of your teams needs. Fisher is defense first, but he knows that you win at “all three phases” (a common phrase of his). After I read your question and before I read infinity’s comment the phrase “Best Player Available” came to my mind. If you need a left tackle, he will go after one, if you need a linebacker, he will go after one. If you need a lot….then the best player available is what he’ll do.
2) I think Munchak had a lot to do with the success of the running game. But I also think good RB’s helped too. The line was awesome in the days of Eddie George, and #27 always ran hard. The line opened holes for CJ and he would explode through it. Fisher’s style is kind of the old days NFC games. Don’t expect an all passing offense. He believes in ball control and t.o.p. So to answer your question, it’s a combo of a lot of things. I’m sure the Rams running game will be improved.
3) I really don’t know a lot about either one.
A Super Bowl rematch would be great, just give us this next one, then you can go beat New England the following year!!

gotitans27 whats your take on Fishers coaching on a personnel level.....by that I mean
Pac-man Jones, Albert Haynesworth, Lendale White, (and I’m sure there are other I’m forgetting)…but as a HC and drafting and dealing with some of these nut cases how well did Fisher handle these personalities? It must be hard to be a HC and have players with all this talent and have all the off field issues looming over the locker room and still try and compete every Sunday. Whats your take on him gambling on players with “troubled pasts”? and do you think he could overlook the troubled stuff and gamble on them due to their talented upside and bring em to the Rams?

You left out the biggest nutcase of all.... Vince Young
Fisher was tough on them all. He had expectations that he wanted the team to follow. He was painted into a corner with the whole VY thing. A player he didn’t really want to draft or play, but his hands were tied. Finally the pooh hit the fan and Fisher ended it. I think he and Haynesworth weren’t much of an issue. Jones is just an idiot. White was never a problem at all, especially if there was a buffet table nearby!
My favorite Fisher/player quote was from the late 1990’s. The Titans played the Dolphins and lost on a late FG. I don’t remember specifics but Ranya Stewart, a DB, had a couple costly penalties (I think personal fouls) that helped set up the FG. Fisher in the injury report in the post game conference said that Stewart is going to get an MRI on his brain.
He has made some “questionable” first round choices, but he’s not afraid to go out on a limb. Jones and Young didn’t pan out, but people like Haynesworth and Jevon Kearse did.
