Rams Will Interview Saints Assistant Coach Aaron Kromer For Head Coaching Position
The St. Louis Rams continue to line up head coaching candidates. Jay Glazer at Fox Sports is reporting today that they received permission to interview Aaron Kromer, the offensive line and running game coach for the New Orleans Saints. The interview is likely to take place in San Francisco where the Saints are playing the 49ers this weekend in an NFC Divisional game.
Kromer's work the Saints speaks for itself. Darren Sproles breathed new life into his career with the Saints this season, racking up 1300+ yards from scrimmage and scoring nine touchdowns. The Saints have a rushing attack as intricate as their passing offense. They also have a very good offensive line, particularly in the middle. The weight of talent versus coaching plays heavily in the discussion of any assistant coach ready for a promotion. That's where the interview and the references come into play.
Kromer's been with New Orleans since 2008. He came over from Jon Gruden's staff in Tampa Bay, where he was a senior assistant and the offensive line coach for the last two of his three year stint there.
His background as an offensive line coach is interesting given the high priced struggles of the Rams starting five in 2011.

Personally I really dont know crap about many of these coaches besides Fisher but...
My two personal choices would be Horton or Kromer. From what I have read they are my favorites besides Fisher. Not sold on the Panthers OC, they didnt win many games and the only reason their offense was explosive was because of Cam. Think we have much better options than him, but thats just me. Who would you guys like to see as the Rams next HC?
just read..
PFT says he is an intense guy, thats something I would welcome to the Rams. Maybe someone with some outward fire can get more out of the players on the roster. Plus his background as an offensive line coach, and what he did with the line in NO, he might be able to do something with our underachievers
agree 100%..
we need a coach with some passion and fire, Spags had neither. The one negative I have seen in Bradford is he doesnt yell at his players like Sjax did last year. Want to see some more out of him as well, hopefully the new coach can bring that out of him.
And hopefully he'd give all the refs an earful too
and won’t stand for BS calls like our coaches have over the past 6 years at least.
THIS year's the year. I hope....
I would prefer Chud!
I don’t know where these names are coming from but we seem to be getting more and more desperate by the hour. Giving Kromer too much credit for the Saints offense is asinine! Brees is great with or without Kromer! Brees was the guy who recruited Sproles to New Orleans not Kromer or anyone else for that matter. You want intense passion with your HC then I recommend we go get the OC from the University of Georgia!!!!!!!
why dont we just hire drew brees as hc then?
personally I think kromer would be an excellent candidate.

At this point...
If Fisher does choose to go to Miami, wouldn’t it be prudent to hire a GM before all of these coaching candidates? Why go through all this trouble of interviewing guys when the GM might have a few ideas of his own in who to hire and might be turned off knowing he has no say in who the brand new coach will be?
This life's hard, man, but it's harder if you're stupid.

That would make sense.
maybe they know who they want to hire for GM but it depends on Fisher coming or not?

I think they were waiting to hear from Fisher before hiring a GM...
they basically were going to let Fisher pick his own GM.
Which carries some problems.
how does a coach hire his boss?
Nevertheless, I always assumed the difference here was that it was “Jeff Fisher” and everyone was on board with making an exception here. It’s not a great situation, but I got it.
Anyway, I just don’t get all of these HC interviews when there is no GM.
Living in Chicago, I used to be able to always rely on 3 things. The Blackhawks, the Cubs, and the Bears making dumb ass decisions when it came to their organizations. Unfortunately, I’ve really only got the Bears left on that list (and man are they ever doing one royal right now), but it pains me to think, the Rams decision making right now is not far off from what the Bears are doing by either letting a coach have a say in the hiring of his boss, or by hamstringing the GM search with little flexibility when it comes to the most important decision a GM should be making.
In the case of the Bears, their HC only has one more year on his contract. But with the Rams, I’m assuming it’d be no less than 3 years once they hire someone.
This life's hard, man, but it's harder if you're stupid.
