53 Man Roster
QB: Sam Bradford, AJ Feeley
FB: Britt Miller
K: Josh Brown
P: Donnie Jones
LS: Jake McQuaide
My gut feelings on the QB situation were correct in that I just couldn’t see the team cutting Feeley and going with Bradford and Thad alone. No matter what sport or team you are in, you have to have experience and Feeley does have that. Didn’t expect Thad to be cut although in terms of a 53 and what you need during a game I understand where teams are coming from.
Wide receivers were the biggest competition in camp. I think Gibson’s improvement really surprised most but he needed to. The top three were always safe and the draft picks were pretty much a done deal as well. The team went with DX and Dominique Curry over Avery and Gilyard. This competition I believe will run into the season as the team isn’t carrying 8 receivers when Clayton is ready. I personally think DX and Pettis will be fighting it out here, maybe Curry but he is here for special teams rather than catching the football.
I mentioned in my prediction that Guidugli to me offered something extra. The team likes him and I really thought his appearance on the field with the second team against the Jaguars showed this.
Well done to Drew Miller, had a solid camp by the sounds. I do wonder if the team makes a change here in the coming days though, maybe another physical mauler, rather than Fraley.
Selvie was a surprise just like Thad Lewis. However I think Sims was a little better in the preseason games and Ah You is a guy who fits the system well. In the end Selvie was in danger and I’m sure Spags found this one difficult. However I think special teams wins here and carrying an extra DE means cutting another quality backup. I just don’t think it was the right time and place and wish Selvie well.
Diles just never seemed to get going, not sure if he ever lined up alongside Laurinaitis in practice or in the games. His agent wasn’t charmed and didn’t think he got given a fair shot. The Rams need to be careful here, because if agents start making these comments it hurts the team’s ability to sign players in the future. Chamberlain and Kehl are special team weapons and I think there’s always space for these types of guys.
Butler’s experience beat out Nelson but I expect him to be on the practice squad unless another team claims him. However this situation is far from complete and I would expect a few changes to the roster particularly at corner.
