Um, is it just me or is everybody overreacting just a little bit?
Wasn't it just 2 seasons ago that we were a historically bad 1-15 team? We're a much better team now than we were then but the truth is that it just takes time to overhaul a roster that was as bad as the 2009 Rams and turn them into legitimate contenders. We've put some quality and necessary pieces in place but this thing isn't gonna get turned around to the point where winning a Superbowl in 2 years. How does the cliche go - Rome wasn't built in a day?
This talk about Kroenke putting both Spags and Devaney on the hot seat is scaring me. 1) It reaks of a Daniel Snyder-esque move and we all know how well that's worked out. B)If we keep changing GMs, coaches and coordinators, we will always stay in the bottom of the league (Think Buffalo and Washington) and III. I actually think that Spags and Devaney are making some pretty decent moves for the long term.
Coming off the turn around from last year, I think we all had a little overzealous expectations for this year. Let's face it - we have an absolutely brutal schedule the first half of the season: both Superbowl teams from last year, Drew Brees and the Saints, the Ravens, not to mention "The Dream Team". If we get through the first 8 games at 2-6, then we've accomplished something. The second half of the season we face each team from the NFC West twice plus the Bengals and Browns. If we can get into our rhythm, there's still no reason to think that we still can't win the division at 9-7.
Now I'm not saying that we should be content with mediocrity because I've been just as frustrated as everyone else with the way the first couple games panned out. But the truth is we were just a couple of flukey plays here and there from winning last night and that was without our workhorse running back, leading wide receiver and #1 corner. There are definitely things to work on and to improve on but cleaning house on the coaches and GM will set this organization back another few years and we'll all be sitting at our computers at this point in 2014 screaming for another coach's head on a platter.
I know we live in a "I want it and I want it now" world but patience grasshopper...
Just for fun, here's a little poll.
