Over/Under Fantasy Football Achievers

MIAMI GARDENS, FL - SEPTEMBER 12: Chad Henne #7 of the Miami Dolphins makes a pass during a game against the New England Patriots at Sun Life Stadium on September 12, 2011 in Miami Gardens, Florida. (Photo by Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images)

Here is the next installment of what will be a weekly rundown on who I think will over or under perform their weekly fantasy football rankings from ESPN. So if you have a guy who is possibly injured and not 100% take a look at the lower ranked guys I think will do well and move them into your lineup. But if I mention a top player like Peterson it will be tough to have a guy who can even produce 50% of his output so as always take these thoughts and make the best decision. Last week I went 3-5 in the Sit category and 6-6 in the Start, not a good start so let's improve this week. Let's get to the rankings:

Star-divide

Overachievers

·         Chad Henne (21) - Miami looks to be an all passing team, forcing Chad to put up some nice stats.

·         Ryan Fitzpatrick (18) - Orton was able to rip them up especially before Lloyd got hurt, Harvard will do the same.

·         Rex Grossman (15) - He gets to play the same pass defense that gave up the most yards to a rookie QB.

·         LaDainian Tomlinson (41) - Had a solid day and will play every 3rd down, should be able to get 80 total yards.

·         Danny Woodhead (40)-Looked to be the Pats #1 back as he had double the touches of Ellis.

·         Ryan Matthews (31)-He can do the same as Reggie Bush did the previous week and with Tolbert a bit banged up, he will step up.

·         Cadillac Williams (29)-Not so much on the ground as in the air, he is the only real option at RB.

·         Davone Bess (44)- As I mentioned with Henne , this is now a pass 1st offense, will give solid production as WR3.

·         Brandon Gibson (43)-He led the team in targets after Amendola went out last week, Bradford will get him the ball against the weak Giants secondary.

·         Devery Henderson (37) - He has always been boom or bust but with Moore and Colston out, we expect him to step up again.

·         Hakeem Nicks (29)-It looks like he is playing and with all the Rams injuries in the secondary, they have no one to slow him down even at 80%.

·         Jordy Nelson (27)-He is now WR2 for the Packers and looks like he is building on the great Super Bowl he had, how much fun is it to root for Packers Wr’s?

·         Ed Dickson (20)-He caught all 5 targets and is gaining Flacco’s confidence.

·         Fred Davis (16)-Shanahan has announced they will be going with a 2TE set most of the time.

Underachievers

·         Big Ben (9)-I can see the Steelers getting up big and limiting Ben’s production.

·         Joe Flacco (10)- He had a nice game but comes back to earth on the road.

·         Jamaal Charles (5)-Going on the road against the Lions DL does not bode well for Charles.

·         Maurice Jones Drew (10)-He is on a play count and going against the Jets is not a good recipe for a huge day.

·         BenJarvus Green Ellis (22)-He had 2 carries before garbage time, way too reliant on TD’s.

·         Pierre Thomas (26) - Ranked liked a Flex but played in less than 30 snaps in a shootout.

·         Willis McGahee (33)-Only had one red zone carry, looks old and slow.

·         Marshawn Lynch (34)-There is no need to go with any players from the Hawks and the leaky OL.

·         Roddy White (4) - I know you have to start him but watch Turner and the Falcons run the ball at least 35 times against the young Eagle run defense.

·         Reggie Wayne (13)-All of his yards came in garbage time, Colts go run heavy this week to try and stay in the game.

·         Dez Bryant (14)-Very banged up all last game, had no catches after the 1st quarter.

·         Brandon Lloyd (25)-Even if he plays, he will be way under 100% and with the Denver unsettled QB situation, stay away.

·         Mike Thomas (30)-Welcome to Revis Island.

  • That is it for this week; we will be back early next week for the weekly free agent pickups and feel free to follow me on Twitter-dvond for any fantasy questions.

I did not listen to you last week

and I started Matt Ryan anyways, one of the dumbest decisions of the week. So this week I am going to listen and not start Dez Bryant.

Nope

I would stay with Jones better chance for TD’s

by Mike Dietrich on Sep 15, 2011 2:01 PM CDT up reply actions

Nope

look at what Ryan Fitzpatrick did to KC (at home). Stafford might throw 4 TD’s this weekend, a couple of which might be very long. There’s no way they cover Calvin Johnson

by DCRamFan on Sep 15, 2011 1:09 PM CDT up reply actions

I would stay with Brees

He is even better at home and the Bears are not good on the road

I'm starting Gibson over Roddy White this week....

…. Nnamdi is going to shut Roddy down. Or maybe I’m just a fucking mad man lol

Two things about me will never change. I will always root for the Rams, and I will always root against the Niners.

9/10 people in California have no idea who Gibson is.

That’s how he got on my team. Drafted him and Lance Kendricks with the last 2 picks in the draft hahaha

Kendricks was a sleeper pick, and should be solid this year

I thought it was odd that none of the fantasy sites showed him much love after the preseason he had, and all the ‘McD two TE sets, blah, blah.’ Worked in your favor though

Im in a 14 team 18 player league

So almost anyone with a pulse gets drafted, I try to not just list players for 10 team leagues

Roddy

I see alot of running by Atlanta

lots of running + eagles crazy good DBs = bad show for Roddy

Mr Dietrich, let me ask you this

I’ve got Reggie Bush on the bench. He’ll probably stay there all season. I’m not sold on Joseph Addai, though, who I have as a starter. Should I EVER take Bush off the bench?

Hey Mike thanks for this

I’m currently going for Sproles over Shonn Greene, because it still seems like LT is the man in NJ?

Should I still start him over Devery Henderson?

I’ve got Sproles and Darren McFadden as my 2 starters at RB, looking as to who to start in the flex.

Got Brandon Marshall and Percy Harvin starting at WR…

Also, Gates vs NE or Gresham vs Denver?

by Infemous on Sep 15, 2011 3:02 PM CDT reply actions

Here is what I would do

Get Greene in there this week Ryan is crying how he should have run more and even though LT gets alot of play Greene will get you more than Sproles.

And I would start Henderson over Sproles

Gates every week don’t even think about it unless injured

by Mike Dietrich on Sep 15, 2011 3:35 PM CDT up reply actions

awesome

thanks man.

Jabar Gaffney or Jeremy Maclin this week?

This is killing me. I almost feel like I have to start Maclin, but I really love the matchup that Gaffney has this weekend. Then again, I feel like Maclin might have a good game too. I want to think that Gaffney won’t keep up his Week 1 production, but the Cardinals have an awful secondary.

by StopSpe on Sep 15, 2011 3:05 PM CDT reply actions

Tough Call

But I would stay with Maclin, ATL is pretty shaky pass defense

by Mike Dietrich on Sep 15, 2011 3:36 PM CDT up reply actions

When can I begin starting Chris Johnson?

Right now, I’m starting Dexter McCluster and Ryan Mathews at RB with Johnson, Bernard Scott, and Jamie Harper on the bench.

My gut tells me to wait another week.

Life is tough, but it's tougher if you're stupid.

Wow

Get Chris Johnson in there every week over McCluster

by Mike Dietrich on Sep 15, 2011 3:37 PM CDT up reply actions

seriously

that isn’t even an option.

Also, in my other league,

I currently have Brandon Gibson on my bench while starting Devin Hester, Anquan Boldin, and Devon Bess (with Danny Amendola and Marques Colston who are both injured). The league counts return stats so Hester has some added value.

My question is, is Gibson a better option than any of these starters?

Life is tough, but it's tougher if you're stupid.

Mike I have Felix Jones, Ben Tate, Cadillac Williams, Deangelo Williams,

Rashard Mendenhall, and Danny Woodhead and I can start 3 who should I start? I’m thinking Felix Jones, Mendenhall and Tate (if Foster is still injured Sunday on which case I put in Cadillac.)

"We can't run. We can't pass. We can't stop the run. We can't stop the pass. We can't kick. Other than that, we're just not a very good football team right now. "

Hmmm

Foster will have a small role so I would lean toward Caddy

by Mike Dietrich on Sep 15, 2011 3:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Bush

Use him while you can until he gets hurt. Who knows with Addai and that crazy Colts situation

by Mike Dietrich on Sep 15, 2011 3:33 PM CDT reply actions

i need some sagely advice

My league’s got 2 RB and a RB/WR spot I usually start a 3rd RB in. i’ve got Rice, who I’m obviously starting, then I have Shonn Greene, Ryan Matthews and Lagarette Blount. I’ve also got Malcolm Floyd on the bench, and thinking he might rack up some yards against NE like miami did. So, other than Rice, who should I be startin? I’ve currently got Mathews and Greene.

Two things about me will never change. I will always root for the Rams, and I will always root against the Niners.

by DuhhhRams! on Sep 15, 2011 3:58 PM CDT reply actions

I was thinking Blount too..... he didn't do squat last week though

hard to have confidence in him after a 5 carry game.
