Some might blast you for not putting DX on but I think you're right
He’s dropping balls and he’s injury prone. Some might say him over Pettis becasue of his bad day but I think Pettis can redeem himself, he has good hands, and most of all he can stay healthy. Pretty much agree with your chart.

Have a post here on why DX is on the verge of gettin cut

Pettis has shown every practice in camp
He had a bad scrimmage granted, but DX DIDNT PLAY AT ALL!
by Moneyy Mayweather on Aug 7, 2011 5:14 PM CDT up reply actions
It was supposedly precautionary,
as was everyone else who sat out outside of Murphy and Curry. Plus, I’m not buying all of the so-called dropsies, most of the reports have been positive for DX in practice outside of a couple of drops and one bad day.
"I kind of stepped my swagger up. You look at the Madden game and the swagger's so low, maybe they'll bump me up. Before it was a meatball flex, so you've got to liven it up a little bit." - Animal Jr.

drops by DX almost every practice

Yeah but
Pettis, Salas and Gibby were reported to have drops here and there as well.

bottom line is DD, the rams cant count on dx, being healthy the whole season. period. the end.
thats just the plain truth. after reading reports of dx’s knees swelling up in camp, is not looking positive at all.

Hate to agree...
Makes me sad because I actually liked what we saw from “DX” when he was healthy, plus such a big frame could be helpful, but when it comes down to it reliability is key..and unfortunately he just cant guarantee that…which is the reason he dropped off the draft board …

Keep Mardy over DX
I’ll be pissed if that happens
So many defensive players,
not enough offensive depth. I could have sworn Kehl was an OLB, why is he constantly being put as MLB? I’d remove him and move Vobora to MLB. Replace Kehl’s spot with a third QB. I think Sims and maybe Gibson/Cudjo are gone, give the Rams a fourth tight end. Sorry, but you can’t have just three tight ends in a two tight end set-dominated offense.

I think Kehl is an OLB i believe
and Vobora did play outside, but even tho u say replace him with a nickel, i agree… i suggested either Kelvin Hayden or Ellis Hobbs or Brian Williams, but so far ive heard Darian Stewart playing the Nickel spot

am I wrong?
by crashoveride01 on Aug 9, 2011 10:30 AM CDT up reply actions
Yes you are
Sorry for being so blunt but did’t know how else to say it lol. The rule you are probably thinking about is about the active gameday roster. Before this new CBA you had 45 active gameday spots and one 46th spot only for the 3rd QB. Now I beleive this year they are making that spot available for anyone. So now instead of 45 and 1 3rd QB its 46 spots. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong as well lol
by weekend_warrior55 on Aug 9, 2011 11:05 AM CDT up reply actions
I agree,
but I think the d-line was a bit overkill. I can see 5 DT’s but not 6 DE’s. 6 LB’s seems ideal. Replace Kehl with Vobora and remove Sims and that gives us a third QB and a fourth TE, which I think we definitely need. I think you’re required to have 3 QB’s on the gameday roster now. Yeah, Stewart’s versatility to play both safety spots and nickel ‘backer will probably ultimately free up a linebacker spot since you have 7 here. For the most part it’s a great list, just the little things I disagree with like depth players.

If you like a good story
then you should read the one about the homeless kid that lost his scholarship and worked his ass off with nothing to become the #1 WR for the Bearcats and eventually become MVP of the senior bowl. Then getting drafted and now working his ass off with the odds against him in a crowded WR shuffle and half of his team’s fans calling him brainless and an idiot and would rather have a guy with 6 knee surgeries who the coaches aren’t even let practice, play in front of him rather than acknowledge that the kid actually has real life talent.
That would make a good movie.
Even if he doesn’t make a good receiver. hahaha
Two things about me will never change. I will always root for the Rams, and I will always root against the Niners.
well lets give him a feel sorry for him roster spot. I like the kid & he no doubt has potential but it pales in comparison to what DX can offer.
i think he has more potential to make the 53
Even if its only because of injuries, i think he can take advantage and play some damn good football. He had that nagging wrist injury he got from makin solid special teams plays. He also caught the ball all 5 times he was targeted loll Its not like he was out on the field and under performed. He couldn’t get on because of his wrist and i guess he wasnt catching on to the playbook well enough. But if he does get some PT i think he will show up. He was a performer in college. knew how to score and knew how to get open. I think if he sees a full game of PT he will show up.
He may need a change of scenery too?
Gilyard has had a rough time of it here and you must admit that some of his troubles lay squarely on his shoulders. I don’t doubt the young man has skills. He needs to find a place where he’ll get a chance, even if it isn’t here.
could b considered... i like tht tho
my only concern is can Mr. Irrelevant play the MLB spot? Even tho JL is an every down MLB
by Moneyy Mayweather on Aug 7, 2011 5:35 PM CDT up reply actions
Just a backup on the depth chart.
Vobora can play all three. He won’t actually see much time in the middle, if any.
"I kind of stepped my swagger up. You look at the Madden game and the swagger's so low, maybe they'll bump me up. Before it was a meatball flex, so you've got to liven it up a little bit." - Animal Jr.
Too many defensive players
Replace Gibson and Cudjo with Darell Scott. Spags seems to line up DEs like Selvie as rush DTs on passing downs sometimes anyways. Free up that extra spot for the 3rd QB.
The WR battle is anybody’s guess. I do think DX is the most likely to be cut because of his injury history but that last spot is def. up for grabs.
It's still early in camp
but no-one seems to be giving any love to Hines, Baker, Nelson or the UDFA’s. Some them will make it, and my money is on Hines in place of Butler.
The Swami says...
We need a credible b/u QB that don’t cost $2.2M. That ain’t Feeley. And, we need 3 QB’s.
Avery will be there, not Gilyard. And, I hope somehow Clayton can return. I’m not a DX fan. And don’t bet the farm yet on Bajema or Gibson (WR). Diggs is old and hurt. Doubt he stays around. Kehl and Vobora make for weak backups at OLB. Murphy’s done.
never thought id say this but
We are on the same page, dx knees already acting up and now he has drop issues and still wanna see Gibson in game to make a judgement, don’t think I have much against feeley though, he helped Sam last year but other than that agreed.

yea, what Chopper said
Although I have to ask… why do we need a third QB on the roster? Last year we had 2 with a weaker O-Line. We can keep Thad Lewis on the practice squad.. after getting some solid reps in the pre-season.
If anything, instead of a third QB, i’d opt for a more relaible #2 QB. Just my opinion.

I think we are stuck with Feeley till next year. Its going to be hard to justify bringing in a new QB this late in the game and have him try to learn McY D’s system while Feeley has the jump start on it already

new rule
i believe that they made a new rule forcing all nfl teams to keep three qbs on their roster but some teams like the bills are finding ways around the rule by naming a wild cat qb as their third stringer to open up a roster spot
Why on all of these do I see we only have 2 QBs
you need 3 QBs, there’s no team in the league that doesn’t have 3 QBs on a roster
You can follow me on Twitter @brandonbirkhead.
He was PS most of the year.
Was on 53 man roster 1st week only (in-active). Sent to PS before Oakland game (2nd week) and never on 53 man roster rest of year.
Once they figured Sam could take hits, they went with 2 QB’s rest of year.
Yea I don't know where it says you need to keep 3 QBs on your 53
They used to have a rule where you could have 45 active players on your gameday roster and a 46th spot active as the 3rd QB only but that didn’t mean you had to keep a 3rd QB and I thought I read they’ve changed that. I think they are making that 46th spot available to anybody. Please if anybody can find where it says your required to have 3 QBs on your 53 man roster, please show me beacuse I cant find it anywhere. I was looking all last night

Anybody remember 2002?
Kurt Warner got concussed bad in the 2nd game against the Giants. We went 0-3 against Denver, NYG and Tampa. Jamie Martin, who was our 2nd stringer, and no good at all, lost the next 2 games against a terrible Cowboys team and the 49er’s. Then Martin got hurt and a young 6th rounder named Marc Bulger came in to play as our 3rd QB. And he won 5 games in a row and had Warner’s job (prematurely) the next season. QB is the most important position in the game. Ya need 3 capable ones on a team.
Sounds like we only had 2 capable ones
and wasted space on Martin lol
3rd QB on practice squad will suffice with credible #2 on the bench.

Pretty ridiculous that you have Gilyard over Avery and DX. Not quite sure what your smoking on that one.
Avery is a burner.. unless his knee has ? marks, he'll EASILY beat out Gilly

Avery will be our number 2 guy
I think the final two spots for WR will come down to Pettis and Giylard. Avery will be our number 2 with Gibson as our third WR, I was hoping it would be DX but not looking that way
Damn ya'll went out and spent huh?
Mikell, Norwood, Cadillac, Dahl, Sims-Walker…
Wish Tampa could spend like this…. :(

no donnie avery or danario alexander?
surprising.
Also would like another TE, too many DEs IMO and maybe we lose a DT and bring in Hines or Marquis Johnson.
http://brotherspork.wordpress.com/
Nope
Both DAs cut due to injury prone and savings on salary.
I would cut Eugene Sims, Jermelle Cudjo, Bryan Kehl, and Renardo Foster
and replace with Darell Scott, Jermale Hines, Chris Chamberlain, and either Marquis Johnson or Mikail Baker. Also I would move Vobora to MLB and Mardy is going to have to REALLY impress to keep his spot. He was abysmal last year, especially at special teams which was the one thing he was supposed to be really good at and didn’t have to learn any plays for. I was really on the Mardy bandwagon last year but those wheels have just about fallen off
by weekend_warrior55 on Aug 8, 2011 4:33 PM CDT reply actions
I would be surprised if Renardo Foster is cut
He did well last season filling in as tackle last year, but I agree with Darell Scott and hopefully another corner getting in on the 53 man roster.

Scott is in,
he’s running with the first team. He’d have to be truly horrible in the preseason to be cut (still a possibility). I think Cudjo is only in if we keep 5, which is also a possibility.

Cudjo and Scott will be on the roster
Cudjo plays well enough to be a rotational guy and showed some flashes last year.

You think? Then who gets cut?
I know nothing of Bannan or Muir but had expected them to be improvements and make the team. I could see us keeping 5 DT but even thats a little much with the way we rotate our ends on the inside on passing downs

who will be backup T with Foster cut?
WARNING: Due to depression caused by the NFL Lockout, any posts, comments, fanshots, fanposts, email conversations, web site articles or any other related communication may be offensive or slightly disturbing. Reader discretion is advised.
It would be Goldberg or Ojinnaka
Both can play either Guard or Tackle so Foster is really kind of redundant. Foster played well in spot duty last year but he is only a Tackle and if we keep Golberg and Ojinnaka on, both would be able to cover 4 positions on the line while Foster can only cover 2. It would also free up a needed roster spot
by weekend_warrior55 on Aug 9, 2011 10:41 AM CDT up reply actions
yeah but foster is a much better tackle than either of those guys
I would cut a jack of all trades OL before I cut him. Probably Ojinnaka.
we need to keep Foster
He’s a solid backup OT and did a respectable job last season as a spot starter.

Avery over Gilyard
Based on camp last week.
Also agree with the logic of 2 QB’s with a 3rd on PS.
I can
I didn’t want to, dx has so much upside. But I can spell knees and his aren’t ever gonna recover. Maybe the the practice squad for dx. I’m not sure yet on Avery. Not enough info, so we’ll have to see what happens in pre season.
no love for Chris Chamberlain?
he did have very nice interception in the scrimmage and brings a little more speed at the OLB position. I’d say if we don’t use Mr. Irrelevant in the MLB spot as suggested above, I’d like for us to keep the special teams talent with some speed on the outside and and relegate Vabora to the PS.
I'd rather drop one of our extra DTs to keep Chamberlain or another WR.

WR... (baring injury)
Amendola is a givin’. The same can pretty much be said for Walker, Petis and Halas. Gilyard seemed to be in Spag’s dog house last year and besides totally sucking, apparently there’s a good chance he’s illiterate. I believe he’d pretty much have to become Superman to win the spot over Avery. As long as Gibson keeps up the good work, I believe he’ll make the cut. He ( at this point) is a perfect example as to what Spag’s and Devaney were trying to accomplish… Competition brings out the best in most. If for whatever reason we should resign Clayton, ( which doesn’t look like it’s going to happen ), Gilyard and DX are most definitely out of the picture.

I’d rather get a backup QB with more potential though. I like Thad but he doesn’t have any tools that will make him a trade target in a few years, which is all we want our backup QBs to be.

Roster
That roster looks dangerous on defense,.The rams are definitely going to be shutting down some offenses this year, and it wouldn’t be surprising if they become one of the top 3 or 4 defenses in the league this season. Really, this is an explosive team on both sides of the ball on paper. If the offense has grasped mcds plybook this is going to be a monster season for the rams.
Actually i really did...
and quite few actually chose him… i chose between Randall Gay and Lito Sheppard…. Kelvin Hayden doesnt fit our scheme…. hes a zone guy!

obviously the biggest discussion is at WR...
…and you’re crazy if you think the rams are carrying seven receivers. they’re not. you’re also crazy if you think donnie avery isn’t making the team. in no particular order…
1. MSW
2. avery
3. DX
4. pettis
5. amendola
6. clayton if he signs. if not, gibson/salas/gilyard
