I was thinking about the Rams FA running back signings and what this means for Steven Jackson and how he will be featured in the Rams offense when you take into account that McDaniels is now the Offensive coordinator.

I think people realize that he will get less touches. But does that mean he will have a diminished role in the offense? I still think that the more times Jackson touches the football, the better the odds that the Rams will win the football game. McDaniel's offenses with the Patriots didn't really have a big time running game. I dont think there were many times where the Patriots had a back that made it to 1000 yards rushing on the season. Will that hold true for Jackson especially when you take into account that the Rams have now set themselves up for a multiple back offense? Not necessarily.

I think the "type" of running backs the Rams went out and got means that the Rams plan to run the football and stay committed to running the football. This is bolstered by the signing of Harvey Dahl. This guy specifically tells me that the Rams plan on pounding the football inside or sweeping outside on 3rd and 1 and down around the goalline.

The Rams have also let us know that running backs will now be expected to run routes and catch the football.

So what do you guys think about Steven Jackson's roll in the Rams new offense?

I think the picture looks like this. I think Jackson will still achieve 1000-1200 yards rushing in a season barring injury of course. I think less touches but higher YPC will accomplish this goal. Jackson will have more yards from scrimmage. Overall Jackson will have less touches behind the line of scrimmage but probably just as many touches if he becomes more involved in the pass offense. Adding all in this paragraph together, I think we might see more SJ39 chewing up long yardage and stomping over people.

Lastly, Norwood and Williams will keep Jackson fresher for the 4th quarter where the Rams (Dahl) could feature Jackson to close out a game! All the while Norwood and Williams could be making explosive plays of their own!
