Over the top:
The carry over from the pre-season goes right into the early part of the regular schedule. Bradford throws for 300yds and 3 Tds vs. the Eagles and the defense forces Vick into two drive stopping turnovers. Quinn gets his 1st NFL sack just before half-time.
The only bleeps are losses to Green Bay, New Orleans and to Pittsburg on a last minute field goal after the division is clinched in a 40-7 rout at home vs. Arizona and completing the division sweep at home vs. S.F. 28-14. The combination of Jackson, Williams and Norwood is deemed “MONSTER X”
Bradford (4150 yds passing 69% comp 30 tds 8ints 2 rushing TD including game winning boot-leg vs. Ravens), Sjax (270 carries for 1390 yds 12 tds 39 rec for 309yds 2 tds), Kendricks(80 rec-1017 yds 10 tds) Dahl, Stafford and Mikel (12 ints) make the pro-bowl. Rams finish 2nd in total offense and 5th in total defense in NFL.
In the rematch vs. Green Bay at home in the NFC championship game, Rams struggle early falling behind 21-7 but holds Green bay to a FG in the second half and win 27-24 on Sjax 7 yd TD run with 33 seconds left and Long sacks Rogers to end game.
In the Super-bowl vs. Oakland (just kidding) no, New England, revenge is sweet with an exciting 29-28 victory. The Pats are 14 point favorites in which James L. is quoted as saying “we’ll see who is counted out” and goes out and sacks Brady with a 1,2,3 gesture and points at Belicheat. Sjax sets Super-bowl record by averaging 7.9 yds per carry on 21 for 166 yds and is MVP. The Tub (Albert H.) is ejected before half-time for throwing Dahl to the ground after being pan-caked at least 3 times by Dahl and the rest of the O-line. Brady is sacked a record 7 times and throws for 2Tds and 3ints. Bradford does have one pick-6, but controls the game with crisp play-action and goes 22-32 298 yds and 2 tds. Spags and staff is re-signed to five years.
Middle of the road:
The tough early schedule is hard to overcome with a 2-5 record falling behind early in games but do beat Washington and the Giants. But the other teams in the division are also struggling and the Rams are only 2 games back. The running game is coming along and Bradford’s chemistry with wide-outs is a work in progress, but Kendricks is fifth in NFL receptions. After the loss to the Saints, Spags is quoted as saying “Now we go and win the division!”
On the first play of the game at Arizona, Quinn sacks and knocks Kolb out of the game and the Rams win 31-3. Losing to Pittsburg and at Seattle after division is won the week before at S.F. to end season.
The Rams finish top ten in Offense and Defense. Bradford, Sjax, And Kendricks also top ten. Kendricks and Long make Pro- bowl. Kendricks wins O.R.O.Y. and Quinn is runner-up for D.R.O.Y. Spags is re-signed for three year
Rams beat Chicago on Wildcard weekend but lose to New Orleans the following week.
After starting the season 1-6 with the only win vs. the Redskins, the Rams manages to spilt the Division games and beat Cincy 30-17 (only game over 30 points). The lack of chemistry early on in passing game leads to 8 in the box almost every down. Running game is OK, but 3.5 per rush avg. is bottom 10. On defense, injuries and bad play on back end opens the passing lanes and the Rams get torched. Spags is fired and McD is hired as head-coach.
