How quickly we forget (the TE problem)
The big theme after the draft is that the Rams are using the Patriots model of 2 TE sets. Well, the Rams aren't the Patriots and I don't think Kendricks represents a real upgrade over our current players
Now, obviously, only time will tell if this was the right pick for the Rams. But, as of right now, I am betting against it.

Can't wait for the season to start!
See all these weapons in action especially the TEs (Uh Oh and Kendricks) , causing havoc up the center with the 2 TE scheme. Also to see Pettit and Salas do some damage, should be a fun season.
Get some impact players!!
Who like our picks
Pettis = Irvin

Exactly
You can pick your friends and
you can pick your butt.
But you can't pick your friends butt.

I'm in favor
of seeing how they pan out. I’m predisposed to like them seeing how our draft choices in the past couple years have gone.
THIS year there'll be football. I hope....
We got SALAD, OH NO, AMEN, UH OH, DX, What the hell are we goning to call Kendricks?
WE NEED A POLL!
King Austin and King Lance.

For Pettis
I’m thinking we need an Austin Powers reference.

I was pissed off when they took a TE
but as long as he stays healthy and catches the ball I’m fine with it.I like the WR alot, but its a crap shoot when you draft any player.
What are you trying to say?
This post makes no sense.
All you did was name 4 TEs that busted and then said this was a bad pick.
Onobun > Gates
Many people
have cited NE’s success with two TEs last year as a reason why this pick works. However, I haven’t seen anyone mention examples of how it could go wrong, which is what I did.
“Kendricks is an H-back type who doesn’t offer much as a blocker and will never be dominant in that area” -ESPN’s draft analysis page.
Like I said in the OP, I am not completely condemning the pick, because Kendricks does have some positive qualities, but I am not a fan of it right now. I hope he proves me wrong.

The thing with ESPN anal ist
are they miss alot on who they think will make it in the nfl.
So does
everyone else. I think ESPN does about as good a job as anywhere else

And I have not read one bad thing about Kendricks blocking
He still had a large impact on games where he wasn’t catching many passes with his superb blocking.
By Mike Sando The St. Louis Rams apparently had improved blocking in mind when they made tight end Lance Kendricks their second-round choice Friday
His blocking ability has been well-refined while at the University of Wisconsin
The worst thing I’ve read is average blocker.
Onobun > Gates
I know it's been mentioned by a couple of different sources, but I have no idea how it was spread that his blocking is suspect.
He’s not a massive TE, but his blocking is very good.
Yeah.
If anything, it’s his strength that might be success but with great footwork and technique, he can overcome that.

suspect* not success lol.

So...
by your reasoning any TE selected in the 2nd or 3rd round are bad players because of Joe K and D Byrd??
No,
Just that you have to remember how miserably we have failed in the past drafting TEs highly. The success of the Patriots has been brought up numerous times, so I thought I’d help everyone remember that there has been a big downside too.

I agree with with you marmie
Its not that I’m so disgusted with drafting a TE its that we drafted one way to high. We could have gotten Austin amongst a group of other and picked up DJ Williams in the 4th rd, which seems to be the same player at TE. IDK only time will tell though.
we have failed in the past drafting TEs highly
You mean the guys that aren’t here anymore making the draft decisions?
Don't forget to turn your swag on today.
I know
I didn’t mean to imply it was the current management team that made those picks. The point I wanted to make is that drafting TEs highly has a risk too. So many comments have been made about NE last year that it almost felt like people were just assuming because they had success last year, Kendricks will work out for the Rams this year. Just changing the reference point for the pick.

The problem is that BD and Spags forgot we were missing #1 WR, DT, OG, OLBx2 and b/u RB.
Now we’ve got a heckuva lot of mediocre WR’s and PLENTY of TE’s. Seems like we drafted two TE’s last year and ditched Stonehands McMichaels. As the author noted, before that it was Joe Flopenstein.
First time for everything
I actually agree with you 100% here, Chop. I would have much rather taken a chance that two out of the four tight ends we currently have pan out. In my mind, our TEs were not a weakness last year. And although Schumur didn’t call his offense the “Amoeba,” he did run a lot two TE sets with some success. In the end, it felt like we made a poor decision by reaching for a position that we already have.
Instead, we could have taken Marvin Austin or Stephen Paea.
