Rams Tight End's 2011: Who Makes the Cut?
Daniel Fells, Billy Bajema, Michael Hoomanawanui, Fendi Onobun, and Lance Kendricks
With the addition of our newest tight end, Lance Kendricks, it seems that someone (likely more than one) is going to have to go come game day. Here they are:
Daniel Fells: The most tenured of the Rams Tight Ends. Brings a descent mix of Blocking and Receiving to the mix. Overall, it is becoming more and more apparent that the Rams are not satisfied with him alone and continually try to upgrade the position.
Billy Bajema: Another Tenured TE. Actually played pretty well last year. Was brought to the Rams two years ago due to his ability as a blocking TE, however his receiving abilities actually surprised many last year. Once again, the rams appear to be unsatisfied with his overall performance as they try to get younger at this position.
Michael Hoomanawanui: Perhaps no Rams offensive player has shown more potential than UhOh. With 3 touchdowns in as many games played, he shows to be a great, sure-handed option for Sam to turn to, especially in Red Zone Situations. Would be SHOCKED to see him go!
Fendi Onobun: Workout warrior. Converted Basketball player who seems to be a development project for the Rams. His "Antonio Gates Like Background" gave the Rams hope, however he is definitely still a project and has shown the least production of the group.
Lance Kendricks: Sure handed, smart, systematically selected player who will no doubt be featured in our new offense. Won't be cut simply because of his 2nd round selection status.
So Rams Nation, Which Rams Tight End do you believe is the most likely to be cut before the regular season?
My Favorites: Hoomanawanui, Kendricks, and Onobun
Realistically: Hoomanawanui, Kendricks, and Fells

Sorry to nit-pick your post
But I think Sam and Saffold are offensive players. Also think they showed more promise than Uh-Oh

I apologize for the oversight
I dont even look at those guys a prospects anymore. They are bonafide studs on our team and have already proven themselves as indispensable members
When a guy "Makes the cut" doesn't that mean he stays with the team until the next "cut"
I mis-read the Thread Header as to someone “making the cut” rather than “who won’t make make the team”
I dont expect the Rams to let Bajema go or Uh-oh either
Depending on how Onobun develops he might hit the Prac squad or ultimate release. Fells I think would like to stick but IDK it that will happen if Kendricks develops as planned. Uh-oh, Kendricks, Bajema seem to be our projected players to hit the field for us which all things considered isnt to shabby.

Kendricks, UhOh, and Onobun
Will be the TE’s. Kendricks is the worst blocker and best reciever, so if we have a run block specialist to replace him with on running plays, it will give away what we are going to do.

Kendricks is not the worst blocker
Onobun is. I’d say Kendricks is the best receiver, and possibly best blocker. I’ve only heard good things about his blocking. I don’t know why people keep saying that he is a bad blocker. Besides, Onobun has to be the worst blocker.
Onobun > Gates
agree
have a feeling now that fells will be gone, wont be offered a contract and sign elsewhere. Bajema will be kept for his blocking imo. Onobun needs to make major strides, its not like the rams arent used to dumping draft picks.
If only one guy gets cut it's Fells
He had some drop happy hands last year. iirc he was the worst receiver of that Seattle game. As young as the TEs are though they might keep one of them (Bajema or Fells) to help mentor the younger guys, in which case it’s would be Bajema that gets cut. I typed this as I thought it so I apologize for the non answer I just gave
Terrible memory on Onobun
Why is it around the draft last year everyone acknowledged that it would take a couple years for him to start producing and that he was a project but this year everyone wants him cut because he didn’t produce?

Agreed
We knew he was a project player who would need at least a year to get some football seasoning before he’d be productive. Now, we want to cut a young guy with high potential?
Remember the great 2004 and 2005 Rams teams...

Fells is a FA
and now since we got Kendricks he won’t be resigned so he will be the first. Bajema is another possible cut because Uh-Oh can block just as well but also be a good receiving threat. We will probably keep Fendi around because of his potential.
I AM SAMACUS!!!!!!
I would like to sign Visanthe Shiancoe (I think he's a FA)
and cut Fells and either Onubun or Bajema so in my ideal world our group of TE’s would look like this: Shiancoe for veteran leadership and redzone reliability, Uh-OH as the all around TE, Kendricks as the recieving/mismatch guy, and Onobun as the project if we decide to keep four.

Guessing that the 3 Opening Game roster spots go to...
Hoomy, Kendricks, and Bajema
I should be working right now...
Bajema over Hoom?
I bet Sarah Palin can learn a playbook faster than Mardy Gilyard.
I'd hate to be an underperforming Rams WR this offseason -____-
Don't believe he put that...

Ahh, didn't catch 'Hoomy'
So many nicknames for that guy >.<

Fells just doesn't bring anything spectacular to the table.
Hoomanawanui is a good receiver and very good red zone threat, Bajema is a fine blocker, and Onobun and Kendricks are both young guys that the Rams think can be real playmakers for us. Fells is likely gone, and if we have to get rid of two I think Bajema is next. I really like Bajema, I’m just not sure how he’ll fit in the McDaniels offense that requires more catching and less blocking from the tight ends.
