I put this at the bottom of the Spags hot seat thread but I figured I'd make it it's own topic just to see what fans have to say.
I think 10 wins would be an amazing achievement that's probably not gonna happen. Some people are talking as if the team is going to fill every hole this year with the draft and FA. There’s just no way. Too many holes to fill. I would say we optimistacally fill maybe 5 spots with new additions to the team. If you get 3 excellent starters from the draft then you’re doing very well. If we pick up 2 guys that help the team significantly in FA then I say were doing well. But there’s more issues than that. Not everybody we pick up is going to be Super Bowl top tier guality. Most of them will be plug fillers until we can draft their replacement at some point.
On top of all that you have the fact that the offenese might not even see the playbook in enough time to REALLY learn it which is going to give us problems especially against teams that didn’t put in a new OC. Most teams aren’t going to have to overcome that this season. They might have a few guys (draftees and FA signings) that will have to learn the playbook but it won’t be like the Rams where EVERYBODY has to learn the playbook. So I don’t know why people think we can fill all the holes we need to fill and have the offense learn a completely new play book in maybe a matter of a month AND go win 10 games against a schedule that is tougher than the one last year where we didn’t even win 10 games.
I think that if we do about what we did last year that Spags keeps his job. I think Kroenke looks at it like should have some better players so should win some more games but at the same time there’s a lot more should lose games on the schedule than last year especially given the new OC situation. The team might not even start hitting on all cylinders till half way through the season and that might mean 6 loses right there alone just due to the fact that we can’t even utilize the full play book.
It’s another rebuilding year for the Rams because of the lockout and the new OC. Fans should just except that now cause it’ll make the season a whole heck of a lot more enjoyable especially if we pull off a shocking upset of someone!
