Early depth chart

Early depth chart

Heres an early look. Some of my comments are Mardy Gilyard will play ahead of Austin Pettis on the Depth chart. I think If we draft a safety or offensive lineman he wont start. I think Illinois Mike is the TE starter, but it will be competitive. I think if we draft an outside linebacker, he'll have a good chance or starter, but it should only be him and Robert Quinn. I put in a slot WR spot because we have two good slot receivers. So here's what I think:

Offensive Depth Chart

1.         2.

Quarterback Sam Bradford  / A.J. Feeley

Wide Receiver 1 Donnie Avery  / Danario Alexander

Wide Receiver 2 Mark Clayton  / Mardy Gilyard  /  Austin Pettis

Slot Receiver Danny Amendola /  Brandon Gibson

Running Back Steven Jackson / Draft Pick / Keith Toston

Tight End Michael Hoomanawanui   /  Lance Kendricks / Fendi Onubun

Left Offensive Tackle Rodger Saffold

Left Offensive Guard Jacob Bell / Draft Pick ( can play as any Offensive lineman)

Center Jason Brown / Hank Fraley

Right Offensive Guard Adam Goldberg / John Greco

Right Offensive Tackle Jason Smith / Renardo Foster

Defensive Depth Chart

1.                        2.

Left Defensive End Chris Long / George Selvie

Left Defensive Tackle Fred Robbins / Jermelle Cudjo

Right Defensive Tackle Gary Gibson / Darell Scott

Right Defensive End    Robert Quinn / James Hall(maybe him or  Fred Robbins plays tackle) / C.J. Ah You

Left Linebacker David Vobora / Chris Chamberlain / David Nixon

Middle Linebacker James Laurinaitis

Right Linebacker  Draft Pick / Bryan Kehl / Curtis Johnson

Left Cornerback Ron Bartell / Justin King / Jerome Murphy

Right Cornerback Bradley Fletcher /  Kevin Dockery / Quincy Butler

Strong Safety   Craig Dahl  / James Butler  / Michael Lewis

Free Safety     Darian Stewart  /  Draft Pick

Give me your comments especially about who the starters will be, and if you want to send me a different depth chart I would love to see them!

Pettis over Gilyard

Pettis is a refined route runner who can go up and get the Jump Ball and is a red zone weapon, which is what McD wants to get Sam, and Kendricks is a Gresham clone and Sam loves checking to his TE’s and letting them work. Just wanted to defend LK.

I might be delusional but,

I just see Pettis becoming the next Sidney Rice, not the fastest guy, but when you chuck it deep to him he will contort and get position to pluck the ball against the DB.

by King Sam Rules! on Apr 29, 2011 11:27 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

Yea that's that's how I see it

He has reliable hands ( something most of our WRs are questioned about) and he goes after the ball. Maybe not the sexy pick but he will work.

Not wanting to use cliches

But don’t they always say that there is always a place on a team for a guy who runs his routes and has good hands?

by King Sam Rules! on Apr 29, 2011 11:33 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

Yes there is

I mean look at the Falcons!
But I think he can make an immediate impact on this team and will start at #2 spot to learn from Clayton. I also think that Clayton and Avery will switch in and out of the #1 spot and could see Pettis in it in some times.
I like the picks from today, shows the FO is making an effort to get Bradford some weapons.
I would like for us to get an OG in later rounds though.

The key to these 2 recievers

are they both can get open and they catch the ball. Both are good route runners.Maybe they won’t stretch the field but they should be reliable.Hell they may even make Avery look good.Just kidding

Yea seeing how he is not a deep threat and all

or we could have just gotten sidney rice in free agency

drafted marvin austin and Foster in the 2nd and 3rd rounds respectively

by richter122 on Apr 30, 2011 6:34 AM CDT up reply actions

Why?

What’s he done to deserve #1 status. Before you answer take a look at his stats.

by chndlr54 on Apr 29, 2011 11:56 PM CDT up reply actions

...

ya but hes shown good stuff and he has expierience which is needed

by Fuzzdog13 on Apr 29, 2011 11:58 PM CDT up reply actions

ummm what has he showed that so good that he is clintched for the #2 spot?

They should just let the WR battle it out, whoever does the best in the Off season get to play.

show me

why dont u just send me ur depth chart

by Fuzzdog13 on Apr 30, 2011 12:06 AM CDT up reply actions

Well if you want to go by stats

Then Avery would take over Amendola’s spot in the slot. Avery has better stats and more TD’s than Amendola and yards might I mention with Bulger, Null, and Boller throwing him the ball.

by richter122 on Apr 30, 2011 6:37 AM CDT up reply actions

But Amendola has a rookie QB who never played a down in the NFL

and Avery never got double teamed because he couldn’t get open.Avery scares nobody.

by chndlr54 on May 1, 2011 1:09 AM CDT up reply actions

If I were to find a WR for the rookies to learn from

it would have to be Clayton or Amendola.Avery has been here 3 years and is just average, route running has never been his strong suit.He has or had straight line speed with the inability to get open. He’s more suited to an Al Davis offense.

by chndlr54 on Apr 30, 2011 12:04 AM CDT up reply actions

He's had more TD's then any Rams WR on the roster

8 tds 3years 100 catches

1263 total yards,12.6 yds per catch,40.7 yds p/g .yup real good

by chndlr54 on Apr 30, 2011 2:20 AM CDT up reply actions

And who (Besides SJax) has done any better to deserve the 2nd starting position?

Bruce hung on for too long

and didn’t even play his final season with the 49ers. Also Holt didn’t do anything his last 2 years. Do you have any idea what you are talking about?

by richter122 on Apr 30, 2011 6:39 AM CDT up reply actions

yes i do Bruce had 7 tds in his last 2 years in 26 games 82 catches 1099 yrds

and although Holt only had 3 tds he had 1500+yards 109 catches 48+ yards p/g 13.2 ypc and considering thier age and being over the hill I’d take thar over Avery any time .Do you know what you talking and if you did you wouldn’t ask;

"Calmer than you are." - Walter Sobchak

I like Pettis fine. Just don’t think route precision is his specialty, so the comparisons to Ike or Sidney Rice baffle me. He’s good at finding open zones and making contested catches, not sinking his hips for sharp cuts or showing great burst off of them.

by Abrantes on Apr 30, 2011 12:18 AM CDT up reply actions

Oh that wasn't me

I just think he’ll be good for us and he gives us something we didn’t have last year, a Redzone threat.

He won't....not over Hall right off the bat

Long started cuz he was in a different circumstance…..no one else on the other side of Little and Hall was brand new and didnt put up any numbers…..Quinn might get somne starts but no way he is right away.

Aren't Dockery and Q. Butler already cut...? And rightly so.

Right OG: Goldberg/Greco = cardboard cutouts where the line of scrimmage is shoved back down our throats.

ALL OLB’s are no better than cardboard cutouts.

Overall “depth” = about the measure of a piss ant’s tallywhacker.

by RamChop on Apr 30, 2011 12:24 AM CDT reply actions

no way Goldberg and Greco are boxes at least not just cutouts

WOW....I was gonna ask who honestly thinks 3 rookies will start?

I’m hoping that FA makes an impact on our team and we get some much needed help there rather then the draft because the 2nd and 3rd just killed it for me.

is anyone else as nervous about DT as i am?

i really think that that needs to be addressed more then anything else right now. maybe it will be after the lockout but i think its a major mistake to rely on gary gibson again

Nah

You can always sign some tank off the street to take up space. Spags is a good enough coach to effectively hide a few holes and set up an effective defense. The day he has no glaring holes in the D is the day that unit becomes elite. Hell we had an impressive unit playing a lot of scrubs last year.

Now safety is a concern!

We those guys flub a play it results in 6 points going on the board : /
