Top 5 Things to do During the NFL Lockout

Can you hear the birds chirping? I know, the typical sound of a football-less Sunday, but it's even worse now.

That's the sound of an NFL Lockout. I don't know about you, but I knew this was coming. Even with all of the optimism surrounding the federal mediation, and the extension, I really knew it was coming.

As 3k pointed out in his last post, no one will win this battle, and sadly, the fans are the losers.

This post isn't being written to talk technical, but to try to help the sports hungry fan get through all this and attempt to replace (as best as can be) our beloved sport, maybe for a little while, with something to satisfy our pallets during these depressing times.

With that said, here are the top 5 things you can do to get through these trying times, and survive the NFL Lockout. Feel free to ad anything to the list in the comments.

5. MLB - I have to admit, as avid a Tiger fan as I am, I still can't get into baseball fully until the postseason, however with that said, I recently moved to FL and live about 20 minutes from Lakeland, home of Joker Merchant Stadium the home of Tigers spring training. Gotta look at the positives right?

4. NASCAR - OK I'm going to take heat for this one. I have to admit, I am a big NASCAR and Kasey Kahne fan. I like Kasey because the kid can drive, AND he took over for my favorite all time driver Bill Elliott. At any rate, if you're not a NASCAR fan, I urge you to look into it. It's not all "driving in circles" there's actually a lot of strategy. Not to mention, you can get track pass and listen to your driver and pit communications through every lap. It's almost like listening to Bradford and Spags throughout a game.

3. NBA - Yes the NBA is starting to heat up. The regular season is about 3/4 of the way through so playoff talk has started. Will the Celtics remain the East power or will they get knocked out by the up and coming Bulls? Is San Antonio the real deal? People are even predicting my beloved Sixers may surprise someone in the first round. Yes, at least I have something to watch!

2. TurfShowTimes NFL Draft Coverage - Yes, what would we do without the gang here at TST. Even though football is locked out, 3k, Van, and the rest certainly haven't been. Lots of info regarding the upcoming Draft.. thank god it's still going to take place! Heck, I can't think of anywhere else to get a Ram fix when I need it, even during a lockout than TST.

1. NCAA Tourney - Yes the hottest commodity right now. Today the final four get set. Do I really need to expand #1 further. Don't think so (GO UCONN..ahem, sorry)

Honorable Mention:
- Watching paint dry
- Growing your first mustache while watching the weather channel

Thoughts? I'm sure you'll let me know.

I would have to hold out on Womens Volleyball but

I was surprised at the hits some of those ladies lay on each other. I just hope they don’t turn it into another WNBA and start drafting “athletes”.

WNBA & Womens Volleyball

The NFL and Players are screwing up because there are plenty of things to do.

I love baseball as much as football.

I also like to play co-ed volleyball and the season starts tomorrow.

I live at the headwaters of a tributary for the French Broad river. Also a very short, 5 mins or so, drive puts me at the headwaters of the Pidgeon, or is it Pigeon, river.

Fantasy baseball draft is this afternoon.

And there are always re-runs of the LFL.

Since you mentioned the kitty kats spring training in Fla

I made a trip down there to see the Dodgers play in Vero. I couldn’t let that little piece of history pass me by.

Oh happy day-

SDSU is out, Rams might be over for the year-
WHAT THE HELL AM I GONNA DO WITH 500 lbs OF PORK SKINS, not to mention all the stuff to make a season’s worth of beer and hooch in the still. THANKS NFL OWNERS & NON_UNION.
I can’t believe I have Bowling for dollars marathon 24/7. How does one get crazy and tailgate for a GOLF TOURNAMENT? Maybe I’ll just go for a swim in Fukashima reactor lakeside resort in Japan.

This whole post

makes me want to make a fans tv commercial showing everyone how we’re affected by the lockout. The “Pièce de résistance” would be a guy with a foam finger cheering for paint to dry.

THIS year there'll be football. I hope....

I'm watching wrestling during this time

i like

the MMA craze now. It’s so unpredictable and you have to have so many dimensions to your game to really be a threat. Btw VT my dads name is Bill Elliott he even has the Bill Elliott #94 license plate border on his truck lol.

also a side note

I’m josh elliott like the espn anchor. If he interviewed Bill Elliott me and my dad would have something to talk about for the rest of our lives. sigh lol

Boxing and MMA

Along with TST Draft coverage will see me through.

MMA and TST Draft Coverage, yes.

MMA is an easy number one for me, though I don’t see a lot of fellow fans ’round here. Only tough part about it is that big events only come around once or twice a month.

Also following Libertadores and Brazilian futebol all year long.

OH MAN VT YOU'RE KILLING ME!

Evidently by my name you can figure out what is #1 for me (admittedly, it’s probably above the Rams), but I can’t even believe you have NASCAR and the NBA above the MLB. I don’t think we can be internet friends anymore.

The quickest comparison is like saying Peter Travers and Rotten Tomatoes are better judges of movies than Roger Ebert. (it fits somewhat because both are subjective and have their strengths – although anybody who says Rotten Tomatoes is the best can crawl in a hole and die…)

to rank it all that high for me… but your point is duely noted!

I might be the only one here...

MLS season just started so I’m occupying my free time rooting for my local team, the Portland Timbers.

It may not have the talent of EPL or La Liga, but it’s local and live and it provides a great fan experience.

Maybe I’m not the only one though. I know Ochocinco has decided to fill in the gaps with MLS too. He’s just taking a more active role.

As much as I love the game

I’m just not into the MLS. I think it came along too late for me.

Come to Portland

Sit in the Timbers Army and you’ll be in.

The environment is what really drives American soccer, especially in the Northwest. ECS (The Seattle Sounders supporters club) and Timbers Army make the events special.

It’s never too late.

Oh believe me

I’ve seen the supporters of most of the clubs. Even FC Dallas isn’t bad, but the soccer kills me. I’m spoiled by Arsenal.

That's the problem

You’re still sober enough to watch the soccer.

The NFL and it's Wacko Fans-

Just talked to a friend of mine, and he knows a bunch that is putting a budget to build a 38 ft long football to erect and set on fire at the “Burning Man” up in AZ in case there is a lockout this year.
