Let history be the guide

When I think great Rams teams and building through the draft to a championship caliber team I think of the following players: Waterfield, Pace or Slater or Cowen, Harrah or Mack or Saul, Reynolds or Robertson, Jones or Little or Youngblood, Olsen, Holt or Ellard or Bruce or Jackson or Hirsch, Dickerson and too many others to be named. I picked these players because they played on many of the Ram's best teams of the past and are all-stars are close to it. Now look at the best players from the last few drafts. In my mind the holes that need to filling on the current team from the draft are obvious.

Bradford, Saffold, Smith, Laurinaitis, Long, Avery, Jackson

Those holes are Guard, Def. Tackle, and Outside Linebacker. If those three are not done then next year will be a very long season. Recent history has demonstrated that the Rams get two or three good solid contributors from the draft. I think we will survive without a true #1 receiver for another year. FA finds can help get the Rams through on other missing positions but the FO has to nail the first three picks to guarantee some longterm success. They also will have to develop the young players to make them good contributors (ie: Selvie, Alexander, and others). I know they need a safety, back-up RB, and another wide receiver too, but the best route may be FA for those while lower draft picks develop. My belief is teams are built from the lineman out especially if you have a good QB - which Sam is.
