In this post i am basically going to give some suggestions on what we could do and our options in the next couple of years. So lets imagine for a moment that Julio Jones is available at our #14 pick in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Here is my scenario:
2011 NFL Draft
So we take Julio with our first pick. He is a special player who has good hands, and can get good YAC (Yards after catch). Then in the second we take a guard to protect Sam Bradford. In the third we get a OLB to help Laurinaitis. In the fourth a DT. In the fifth a S to make up for Atgowe or just because we need one. In the sixth a CB. And in the seventh a DE. Note that we didnt take a RB but i have a reason for that. In guessing that we'll be able to sign FA after the draft or before we should sign a one or two year deal with a speedy RB. Someone like Darren Sproles. That would be the end of the offseason for this year. Next is the 2012 draft.
2012 NFL Draft
So with not taking a RB in the draft in 2011 we should be looking for it with the first pick. I say we should take Trent Richardson from Alabama. Richardson is a powerful, and has enough speed to go the distance. Not as fast as Noel Devine but I would rather have Richardson then a small Noel Devine. After that we pick up whatever needs we need to fill. And thats the end of the 2012 draft.
Just to be clear the reason i didnt get a RB in the 2011 draft is because even though it is a need, i would say we can fill it through FA for a year. And we'd get that speedy back that is actually established in the NFL and we know we can do something. So would you like for it to turn out this way? Im not saying it will happen but i like it so far.
