Start to pass or stop the pass?
Pass Offense
The Rams were 21st in offensive passing yards. Their leading receiver was Danny Amendola, a 5' 11", 25 year old, undrafted Texas Tech wide receiver. Their top receivers went down early in the season, and the backups had to come in and takeover. Besides Danario Alexander, who showed major potential, there weren't really any big play guys. Next season the rams staring receivers as I see them, will be: 1. Mark Clayton 2. Donnie Avery 3. Danario Alexander and Slot Receiver, Danny Amendola. If you think about it this is really a pretty decent group of players. Now thats my prospective on the passing game.
Possible WR's: FA, Vincent Jackson, Malcolm Floyd, Plaxico Buress? Draft Picks: AJ Green (If we get incredibly lucky), Julio Jones, Jon Baldwin, Torrey Smith, Titus Young.
Pass Defense
The Rams were 19th in passing defense. The rams gave up so many passing touchdowns that shouldn't have been. They have Ron Bartell, but no one else looks like they've really showed up to play. Though Jerome Murphy and Bradley Fletcher improved they still aren't real shutdown corners. If the rams could get them just to the next level, the pass defense would really improve. They have Oshimigo Atogwe who is a great veteran player. He is the source of leadership for the rams defense. The defense is close to becoming one of the best but it just needs a little more help.
Possible Pass D Draft Prospects:
Patrick Peterson (If we get really lucky), Prince Amukamara, and Brandon Harris.

WR
I really think people are sour on our corners largely because of the deficiency of a consistent 4-man pass rush.

Agree
Our CB’s are pretty good. We have Bartell and Fletcher is developing into a teer 1 CB, if Murphey lives up to his potential we are set at CB

If it doesn't matter who wins or loses, then why do they keep score?

CB
See, maybe I’m just an idiot or something, but I still don’t believe we NEED a WR.
I’m pretty high on Donnie Avery and I like his potential as #2 WR, and Mark Clayton showed some flashes of possibly being a great #1 in my opinion. Not HOF great, but a guy that just gets the job done, like a Derrick Mason. As we all know, Danario Alexander also flashed, and even Brandon Gibson has shown a lot of positive steady improvement. Danny Amendola obviously is a pretty good slot too. That can be our WR corp right there, and just toss Gilyard in there somewhere.
For our CB’s however, after Murphy there’s NO ONE.
Kevin Dockery? Pfft, he’s on the same level as Laurent Robinson as far as his potential goes. Justin King? How about can you stay healthy? 2 people that are GUARANTEED gone next year. For WR ,there’s only 1 guaranteed loss (this all assuming we don’t pick up any WR or CB)
I think that's a legitimate answer
Without injuries, we don’t need a WR. Without injuries we could still use DB depth.

LOL
You said WR and without injuries!
I should be working right now...
WR big plays
By far the guy on this roster with most RAC ability is Mardy. The thing is, he was slow coming on after being held out of pre-season activities (NCAA/NFL rules on grad date) and then later by injury. This guy may not have the best hands but he specializes in easier to catch passes and mind blowing ability to break ankles after the catch. He’s behind in his development by a little, some of it his fault, most of it not, as injury and college rules are beyond his control, but I think if the NFL has a normal preseason and camp this year, Mardy will grow considerably.
Mardy isn’t a reasonable replacement for Avery’s deep strike skillset, though. If Avery can still dominate in that role like he did when he got hurt, they’ll be fine in that area too.
Its tough to say where these young guys are in their development due to injuries but those young seeds shouldn’t be judged entirely on their lack of numbers. They haven’t had enough field time to make that say they’re busts.
If Avery isn’t fully 100% recovered — without any loss of top end MPH — I’d be seriously looking for that role player in bith FA and draft. I think deep speed along with reliable hands (in the same guy) is the single biggest need on Offense.
you think of mardy way higher than I do

That's one way to look at it, but
He undoubtedly would have gone higher in the draft had it not been for his brush with the law and suspension. So, just on displayed ability, there were a lot of people thinking more highly of him. And now I’m not saying he won’t bust. I just think most rooks need more than 1 season before you can tell whether he’s going to be able to play at this level like they did at the last. Some you can, most you can’t.
Agree both ways
The rams have a pretty good group of guys on each side. It’s just that no one really is a primer receiver or db. All Super Bowl teams have one and I say if the rams want a real chance to get to the playoffs they need one of each.
WR
If you put up enough points you don’t need a stellar defence. Gilyard has to learn a new playbook, so that means he will be sitting out this season, unless McD has 2 or 3 simple routes for him to run……LOL!
