Today, I'll be looking at offseason options from a defensive standpoint ( I'll probably do one for offense next week).
Obviously our greatest need is at OLB. we have some solid special teamers but nothing else. We also need a young DT AND a young DE because robbins and hall can't keep playing at the level they are at. I believe the weakest part of the secondary is at SS, where craig dahl isn't the long term starter. One more thing to consider is the giants connection. Spags loves his old players, and many of them are free agents that could potentially be had for cheap.
rookie options along the defensive line:
First Rounders:
Robert Quinn, DE, UNC, Adrian Clayborn, DE/DT, Iowa, Aldon Smith, DE, Mizzou, Cameron Jordan, DE/DT, Cal, Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue, JJ Watt, DE/DT, Wisonsin.
Second and Third Rounders: Allan Bailey, DE/DT, Miami, Cameron Heyward, DE/DT, Ohio State, Corey Liuget, DT, Illinios, Jurell Casey, DT, USC, Muhammed Wilkerson, DE/DT, Temple, Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State, Drake Nevis, DT, LSU, Marvin Austin, DT, UNC, Jarvis Jenkins, DT/DE, Clemson, Jeremy Beal, DE, Oklahoma
(Some) Fourth through Seventh Rounders: Jabbal Sheard, DE, Pitt, Terrel McClain, DT, USF, Jerrell Powe, DT, Ole Miss, Sione Fua, DT, Stanford, Lawrence Guy, DT, Arizona State.
veteran options along the defensive line:
Barry Cofield, DT, NYG, Ray Edwards, DE, Vikings, Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, NYG, Charles Johnson, DE, Panthers, Antonio Johnson, DT, Colts, Jarvis Moss, DE, Raiders, Vernon Ghoulston, DE, Jets.
my reccomendations: sign cofield and kiwanuka and draft someone like bailey, liuget, austin, or casey in the second or third.
rookie options at OLB:
First Rounders:
Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA.
Second and Third Rounders:
Mason Foster, OLB, Washington, Bruce Carter, OLB, UNC, Greg Jones, OLB, MSU.
(some) Fourth through Seventh Rounders: Mark Herzlich, OLB, Boston College, Lawrence Wilson, OLB, Uconn, Ross Homan, OLB, OSU, Brian Rolle, OLB, OSU.
veteran options at OLB:
Chad Greenway, OLB, Vikings, Thomas Davis, OLB, Panthers, Justin Durant, OLB, Jaguars, Ernie Sims, OLB, Eagles.
my reccomendations: sign greenway and either pick up ayers, foster, or carter OR sign durant.
rookie options in the secondary:
First Rounders:
Brandon Harris, CB, Miami.
Second and Third Rounders:
Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado, Aaron Williams, CB, Texas, Curtis Brown, CB, Texas, Kendric Burney, CB, UNC, Rashad Carmichael, CB, Virginia Tech, Brandon Burton, CB, Utah, Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia, Rahim Moore, S, UCLA, Quinton Carter, S, Oklahoma, Deunta Williams, S, UNC, DeAndre McDaniel, S, Clemson, Robert Sands, S, WVU.
Fourth through Seventh Rounders:
Tyler Sash, S, Iowa, Chimdi Chekwa, CB, OSU, Ahmad Black, S, Florida, Will Hill, S, Florida, DeMarcus Van Dyke, CB, Miami, Shareece Wright, CB, USC, Davon House, CB, New Mexico State, Marcus Gilchrist, CB, Clemson, Chykie Brown, CB, Texas, Jalil Brown, CB, Colorado.
veteran options:
Nnamdi Asomugha, CB, Raiders, Jonathan Joseph, CB, Bengals, Champ Bailey, CB, Broncos, Richard Marshall, CB, Panthers, Gibril Wilson, S, Bengals
my reccomendations: the secondary is pretty solid, although I wouldn't mind picking up Sash or Black in the Fifth Round or later.
I hope this was worth reading and if I left anyone out please feel free to share and criticize.
