Being upset about the whole Pujols going to California and the Rams being awful this year, I decided to mess around on Madden, keep in mind, I have a tendency to simulate the first year, especially with the years of being a horrible team. I try and get a good draft pick in place the first year and being a Rams fan, we all know they give our team HORRIBLE ratings for our players and we always have horrible years, but at least they give Steven Jackson an awesome rating. But I went ahead and looked at my staff, decided to fire Coach Spags and then gave him a HUGE contract offer to be my defensive coordinator, and I tell you what, my defense improved quite a bit. Then I hired Jack Del Rio as my head coach and of course, left the made up offensive coordinator on my staff. (Sometimes I wish the McDaniels and Belichick guys would let Madden put them in the damn game.) Tired of seeing a weird looking bald guy as the Patriots head coach.
Anyways, lets continue on my grand offseason... So I put Steven Jackson, Sam Bradford, and Jason Smith on the trading block before the draft of free agency came around. I received an offer from two of the worst teams which these teams had the first and second pick and my Rams already had the third round draft pick. So what did I do? I traded Jackson to a team for their first round draft pick, and I traded Sam Bradford for the other teams first round draft pick. So with the new head coach, a new system, I thought it made sense to move Bradford somewhere else. (He ended up with the Bengals) When I think about that, it's actually not a bad fit.
So I had the first, second, and third pick in the first round, and I still had Jason Smith on my trading block during the draft. But since I already had the third pick, I was set up to at least get three projected first round picks. I drafted Andrew Luck, Alshon Jefferey, and Dre Kirkpatrick. I got really lucky and had Trent Richardson available in the second round of the draft. So you know how Jason Smith is still on my roster? Well lets just say because of him and his salary, I had a lot of trouble figuring out who to sign from the draft. So I just signed the first four people I drafted, and that made me pretty broke. But I figured it was well worth it. The offseason passed and before the first game I finally got an offer for Jason Smith and it was for a weak side linebacker who had one year of experience and an A for potential. So I felt pretty good about that. Everyone on my o-line got better, and I just went ahead and signed a RT who's rating was pretty bad, but he's doing good enough. So that leaves me with the next offseason to draft the o-lineman from USC. I'd have to say a part of me would LOVE if the Rams could somehow pull something like this off. But of course, that's very doubtful. I'd have to say I got lucky getting Luck and his new found Alabamians.
But I figured it'd be fun for all the other Madden gamers who are Rams fans to tell me about what you did to improve your team. So if you'd like to play along, that'd be great, if not, at least I had an awesome Madden Moment.
Would you like the Rams to actually try something similar to what I did?
