Sam Bradford Injury: Rams Sign Potential Backup QB...For Tom Brandstater

Stay connected for news and updates

The St. Louis Rams added a fourth quarterback to the mix today. Matt Gutierrez was signed to the practice squad, replacing cornerback Nate Ness, per Howard Balzer. The extra quarterback will be needed if the Rams are without both Sam Bradford and A.J. Feeley this week, which is a distinct possibility.

A.J. Feeley has a broken thumb in his throwing hand. Sam Bradford is dealing with the same high ankle sprain that forced him out for two games in October. The Rams are preparing for the distinct possibility that Tom Brandstater will be starting this week. They have until Saturday to make a decision on activating Gutierrez.

Gutierrez was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New England Patriots in 2007, when McDaniels was the offensive coordinator. He was playing the Arizona with the Area League most recently.

In other shitty news, the Rams had a punter in the building for a tryout today. Tom Malone was with the Patriots from 2006 to 2009, though he never made it onto the active roster. Donnie Jones is dealing with an ankle injury.
