Rams Vs. Steelers: Game Thread

St. Louis Rams at Pittsburgh Steelers, Dec 24, 2011 12:00 PM CST

This is the second to last game of the season for the St. Louis Rams, who currently own a 2-12 record and are in a three-way horse race for the first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Beating the Steelers in Pittsburgh is a tall order, but this is the same team that managed to upset the New Orleans Saints earlier in the season. Can they pull off a similar upset?

Steven Jackson needs just 34 yards to break the 1,000-yard barrier for the seventh consecutive season. That would put Jackson in elite company, only the seventh player to accomplish that in the NFL. He should be able to do that today, but the Steelers defense is a tough nut to crack. With the Rams starting Kellen Clemens, Pittsburgh will be focused on Jackson.

We'll try to get some highlights from the game on the site as they happen. Hopefully there are some.

Be sure to follow us on Twitter @TurfShowTimes for even more fun!

play well but don't you dare win this game

The only thing comparable to a Rams win is a 49er loss!

I'm not sure what to look for today...

even if we play a good game and win, it seems like a lot of the organization will be rebuilt.
It’s not like we will finally see McDaniel’s offensive genius, especially with Clemens at QB.
Maybe Kendricks can play well.
My friend’s remarks on the rams are that the players and the organization aren’t winners.

No he didn't

he was in zone just standing there, Dalton didn’t see him and tried to throw a cross. All Gordy had to do was take one step, and catch it

by Brick Top on Dec 24, 2011 12:58 PM CST up reply actions

So he jumped a route

I don’t get what your saying.

Sam Bradford

by Jombari on Dec 24, 2011 12:59 PM CST up reply actions

Taking one step isn't jumping a route,

jumping a route is when you read the play and then make a break before the ball is thrown, not just reacting when the ball is in the air

by Brick Top on Dec 24, 2011 1:00 PM CST up reply actions

So unless you make a brilliant dash across the field

It’s not jumping a route. Dude, I respect you, but what he did last week was the definition of jumping a route. He read it, Dalton was late and he picked it off. Enough said.

injuries much worse and schedule is the hardest in the league..

Ya have to look at what is in the best interest of the team

A 1st pick over a 2nd or 3rd can affect the team for years to come. A meaningless win in a lost season gains nothing. It’s certainly no worse than a team headed to the playoffs sitting it’s 1st stringers.

No doubt in my mind it's Kalil over Blackmon

Of course, a trailer of draft picks over Luck sounds better.

Formerly JBaccSTL. Been losing sleep over Rams football since 1999.

by Joe Mazzi on Dec 24, 2011 3:09 PM CST up reply actions

Id be alright with the Kalil pick

It just makes me a little nauseous to draft ANOTHER o-lineman second overall in 5 years. I know it’s necessary though.

by ViperLjs on Dec 24, 2011 3:13 PM CST up reply actions

So assume for a moment we get the number one pick.

Do you consider drafting Luck and trading Bradford?

by ViperLjs on Dec 24, 2011 3:09 PM CST reply actions

No. Luck is more "valuable" than Bradford. Trade the pick.

Formerly JBaccSTL. Been losing sleep over Rams football since 1999.

by Joe Mazzi on Dec 24, 2011 3:10 PM CST up reply actions

nope, I would trade it...

this luck pick could end up being the highest paid price for a number 1 pick in history. (trade wise). I would trade it in a hearbeat!

by jpcisco on Dec 24, 2011 3:10 PM CST up reply actions

If the haul is indeed as large as they are speculating, then I definitely trade it

Honestly though, I think the potential draft packages are probably being overstated.

by ViperLjs on Dec 24, 2011 3:12 PM CST up reply actions

Not quite sure about that...

Look at how much Atlanta gave up for Julio, I think he would could get a nice amount of picks for Luck.

by jpcisco on Dec 24, 2011 3:16 PM CST up reply actions

Looking at the package Atlanta gave to the Browns

which was their 1st, second, and fourth round picks last year and their first and fourth round picks in 2012,

I’d ask for at least 2 firsts, 3 seconds, a third, and 2 fourths.

If they wanted to exchange an extra first rounder for one of the seconds and the third, Id do that, too.

by ViperLjs on Dec 24, 2011 3:20 PM CST up reply actions

and draft your brother?

by RG31 on Dec 24, 2011 3:15 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Looks like we should atleast have the number 2 pick....

and the way the Colts are playing we have a shot at the number 1. Way to go Vikes!!!

by jpcisco on Dec 24, 2011 3:10 PM CST reply actions

Wow. I get a little sick thinking what kind of team we should've been able to build thru 3 drafts at 2nd, 1st and 14th overall.

But we end up 2-14? If you add in that we’re drafting 1st or 2nd again in 2012, we should’ve been able to build a SB team just thru the draft alone. And we already had Jackson, Long, Bartell, Atogwe, and a few other capable players. What the hell happened???

by JHaier on Dec 24, 2011 3:13 PM CST reply actions

An incompetent FO and coaching staff happened.

There’s a reason why some organizations are consistently successful and some are not.

by ViperLjs on Dec 24, 2011 3:16 PM CST up reply actions

So this draft lacks a lot of superior talent outside like top 6

So do we draft one of those great guys or do we trade down and take a bunch of “good” players?

Beating off the dog is never appropriate when we have company over...... I mean EVER!

by sergey606 on Dec 24, 2011 3:38 PM CST via mobile reply actions

agreed

because we need help at so many positions.

by A310 on Dec 24, 2011 3:49 PM CST up reply actions

I'd say outside top 2

After Luck and Kalil (and you could argue that RG3’s ceiling is so high it should be a 3-man top tier), the drop off is HUGE.

I really don't like the so-called top 10 talent in this draft.

I just don’t see any Calvin Johnson’s or Von Miller’s. Matt Kalil is the only “sure thing” but starting linemen don’t need to be had in the first couple picks.
