Rams Vs. Steelers: Game Thread
St. Louis Rams at Pittsburgh Steelers, Dec 24, 2011 12:00 PM CST
This is the second to last game of the season for the St. Louis Rams, who currently own a 2-12 record and are in a three-way horse race for the first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Beating the Steelers in Pittsburgh is a tall order, but this is the same team that managed to upset the New Orleans Saints earlier in the season. Can they pull off a similar upset?
Steven Jackson needs just 34 yards to break the 1,000-yard barrier for the seventh consecutive season. That would put Jackson in elite company, only the seventh player to accomplish that in the NFL. He should be able to do that today, but the Steelers defense is a tough nut to crack. With the Rams starting Kellen Clemens, Pittsburgh will be focused on Jackson.
We'll try to get some highlights from the game on the site as they happen. Hopefully there are some.

I'm not sure what to look for today...
even if we play a good game and win, it seems like a lot of the organization will be rebuilt.
It’s not like we will finally see McDaniel’s offensive genius, especially with Clemens at QB.
Maybe Kendricks can play well.
My friend’s remarks on the rams are that the players and the organization aren’t winners.

Not all his picks were thrown to the guy man....
He has made plays on the ball as well
When are INT's not right to someone?
Do you just expect players to dive for everything? He made a great play last week and has played well. I don’t get this post
Sam Bradford
He doesn't jump routes or play great coverage to get the INTs
they are literally just thrown up to him
HAHAH are you joking?
Last week he literally jumped a route to pick that ball off.
Sam Bradford
No he didn't
he was in zone just standing there, Dalton didn’t see him and tried to throw a cross. All Gordy had to do was take one step, and catch it
So he jumped a route
I don’t get what your saying.
Sam Bradford
Taking one step isn't jumping a route,
jumping a route is when you read the play and then make a break before the ball is thrown, not just reacting when the ball is in the air
So unless you make a brilliant dash across the field
It’s not jumping a route. Dude, I respect you, but what he did last week was the definition of jumping a route. He read it, Dalton was late and he picked it off. Enough said.
Sam Bradford
in the interview over the pick.
He said he remembered they tried that paly earlier in the game, he recognized it an jumped the route to get the pick.
I'll take that: He seems to have decent position on his INTs though. Got to be in the neighborhood , and unlike King...?
King couldn't get in position
For an INT unless the WR tipped the ball backwards about 5 yards.

not even close to as bad as they were in '09
most disappointing, for sure. But not even close to worst ever
Yes, but don't you feel
they played harder in 09 and were closer in a lot of those games? Injuries I think are worse this year, and also the schedule is tougher.
injuries much worse and schedule is the hardest in the league..
you do the math.
Our thrid string quarterback is starting behind a line that has one starter and a few third stringers and second stringers on it.

Schedule is the hardest, really? I know it was tough
I didn’t know it was actually rated the hardest.

strength of schedule
I believe the easier schedule gets the first pick (losing to the worst means you are the worst).
Harder schedule gives us higher pick
the logic is they had the same record but played worse people so they are worse and they get the higher pick

Ya have to look at what is in the best interest of the team
A 1st pick over a 2nd or 3rd can affect the team for years to come. A meaningless win in a lost season gains nothing. It’s certainly no worse than a team headed to the playoffs sitting it’s 1st stringers.

Well, there's no way in hell we're beating the Niners next week
so the worst we can do is the second overall pick.
No doubt in my mind it's Kalil over Blackmon
Of course, a trailer of draft picks over Luck sounds better.
Formerly JBaccSTL. Been losing sleep over Rams football since 1999.
Id be alright with the Kalil pick
It just makes me a little nauseous to draft ANOTHER o-lineman second overall in 5 years. I know it’s necessary though.
So assume for a moment we get the number one pick.
Do you consider drafting Luck and trading Bradford?
No. Luck is more "valuable" than Bradford. Trade the pick.
Formerly JBaccSTL. Been losing sleep over Rams football since 1999.
nope, I would trade it...
this luck pick could end up being the highest paid price for a number 1 pick in history. (trade wise). I would trade it in a hearbeat!
If the haul is indeed as large as they are speculating, then I definitely trade it
Honestly though, I think the potential draft packages are probably being overstated.
Not quite sure about that...
Look at how much Atlanta gave up for Julio, I think he would could get a nice amount of picks for Luck.
Looking at the package Atlanta gave to the Browns
which was their 1st, second, and fourth round picks last year and their first and fourth round picks in 2012,
I’d ask for at least 2 firsts, 3 seconds, a third, and 2 fourths.
If they wanted to exchange an extra first rounder for one of the seconds and the third, Id do that, too.
Yes and trade Sam to Miami

Looks like we should atleast have the number 2 pick....
and the way the Colts are playing we have a shot at the number 1. Way to go Vikes!!!
Wow. I get a little sick thinking what kind of team we should've been able to build thru 3 drafts at 2nd, 1st and 14th overall.
But we end up 2-14? If you add in that we’re drafting 1st or 2nd again in 2012, we should’ve been able to build a SB team just thru the draft alone. And we already had Jackson, Long, Bartell, Atogwe, and a few other capable players. What the hell happened???
An incompetent FO and coaching staff happened.
There’s a reason why some organizations are consistently successful and some are not.
We've "gonna be great in 2 years" for like 5 years

I'd rather have 2 mid-first rounders than one top 5
Formerly JBaccSTL. Been losing sleep over Rams football since 1999.
I'd say outside top 2
After Luck and Kalil (and you could argue that RG3’s ceiling is so high it should be a 3-man top tier), the drop off is HUGE.

I really don't like the so-called top 10 talent in this draft.
I just don’t see any Calvin Johnson’s or Von Miller’s. Matt Kalil is the only “sure thing” but starting linemen don’t need to be had in the first couple picks.
