2012 NFL Mock Draft III

MTD reported just a little while ago that Mat Kalil will be signing with an agent and entering the 2012 NFL Draft. So that means we should be pretty easy to mock for the next couple of months until April comes around. This is based off us filling the wide receiver need through free agency, whether it is Desean Jackson, Dwayne Bowe, or Vincent Jackson. So without further ado I give you my 2012 Rams Mock Draft.

Round 1

Matt Kalil, OT- USC. Mr. Kalil will indeed be a St. Louis Ram unless by some miracle we win another game. Should be a stud LT for years and years. Move Saffold to the right and he should be able to do just fine over there. Have to take him to ensure Sam's safety.

Round 2

Chris Polk, RB- Washington. I'm sure most of you have seen video on Polk, he has a good speed/power combination. For however much longer Jackson is here he could be the backup we have been waiting for, and maybe after a while we can hand the reigns over to him.

Round 3

Travis Lewis, Oklahoma. If we can get him great. If not then we should take Sean Spence out of Miami. Lewis has the size and quickness to thrive in the NFL, some people think his foot injury slowed him down but I think he will be just fine. On the other hand Sean Spence has good instincts and can defend the pass fairly well for a LB.

Round 4

Derrick Wolfe, DT- Cincinnati. This was close for me. It was between Wolfe and Tydreke Powell of North Carolina. Wolfe has done well this year with 19.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. It seems like we would get a good run stopper and pass rusher. He could get a little bigger at 6-5 300lbs, but still has decent size. Tydreke has 45 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and one sack. Either way we get a good DT to help Long and Quinn.

Didnt see it

what was wrong? Based off that would Spence be a better option?

No to Polk

Unless he is the BPA and the RB to replace Jackson.

Much bigger needs at DT, OLB, CB, G, WR, etc. Someone for the love of god, please find us a GM who can evaluate the BPA in the next draft. I don’t care if we resign Lloyd and Blackmon is the BPA and we pick him up. Would like nothing more…

Yea Polk seems to be had in 3rd especially since we pick so high.....

and there has to be better talent there

I Voted No

Chris Polk is agreat choice at 2. IMO, Blackmonis the better pick at one. OT FA Demetrious Bell from the Bills, would allow another selectiont to be used for a playmaker like Jarius Wright in the later rounds. IMO Slyvester Williams is a better DT than his Tarheel teammate Powell. Williams is bigger and does a better job of penetrating . He is very athletic for a 320 pounder. His long arms have used effectively to bat passes down. He even got an INT off a batted pass this year.

You're really going to compare Bell to Kallil?

Bell has been having injury problems and is not in the same league as Kallil. Orlando Pace or an avg tackle in the NFL?

by RamsFan1979 on Dec 16, 2011 10:41 PM CST up reply actions

Did Not Make A Comparison

Bell would allow the Rams to focus on getting offense playmakers earlier in the draft. I nor anyone else know how good Kalil will be on the NFL level; that goes for any draft prospect. We all look at the potential, production, and skill set in college and base an opinion on that. Bell has played well in a tough AFC Conference; IMO he is better than what the Rams have now. Speaking of comparisons: How does Kalil compare to Orlando Pace? How can you compare Kalil with an OT the calibre of Pace? Now that is a long reach.

I Forgot OLB

I disagree with taking Travis Lewis this high. Danny Trevathan from Kentucky IMO would be a better selection. His lateral quickness is outstanding, his coverage ability is great, and he is a sound physical tackler who is skilled at blitzing the QB: 135 TKL’s, 4 INT’s, 3 PD, 3 Sacks.

never even heard of him

Will definitely look at him though.

Line, Line, and more line

Imagine if we had an offensive line that could protect Bradford and open holes for SJ. That and a decent DT. Sorry, but I’m a believer in the game is won in the trenches.

Gold and Blue, through and through.

Kalil AND DeCastro?!?!

That would be a dream draft! Kalil, DeCastro, Wragge, Dahl, Saffold? WOW!

by mcihaelT on Dec 16, 2011 12:06 PM CST up reply actions

Yea, what about weapons for Bradford?

Just because you have a good line doesn’t mean these wrs will play better..

You're right

But I think, given what I’ve seen so far, that Sam will be helped more by a better O-Line than a better WR corps. If I had to choose between an upgraded O-Line and the current WR corps(with Danny and Salas back), or an upgraded WR corps and the current O-Line, I’d take the upgraded O-Line every time. I am certainly not suggesting that the team doesn’t need playmakers, mind you. I just think they need O-Line help more.

by mcihaelT on Dec 16, 2011 2:16 PM CST up reply actions

Oh I agree with you OLine needs to be upgraded in the 1st

My point is don’t forget we have one of the worst wr corps in the NFL even with amendola and salas back.

yes

agreed… take a G in 2, and finally fix the OL. Get the RB in a later round, or in FA.

by A310 on Dec 16, 2011 2:44 PM CST up reply actions

The only reason I said no....

….is cause we oughta take a DT in the 3rd instead of OLB. Otherwise, I liked it.

Although I love the idea of trading down and getting an OT AND a WR in the first round.

I been doing research

Chris Polk shouldn’t be touched before late 3rd.

Is that great man formally known as Tevin T. Broner, also I'm on twitter

by Tevin Broner on Dec 16, 2011 1:26 PM CST reply actions

Following that thought

I’d rather wait even later and take Doug Martin.
