The St. Louis Rams now turn away from their ninth loss of the season. Today, they start preparing for their week 13 matchup in San Francisco against the surprising 49ers. Here's what Rams fans will be talking about today as we round the corner from week 12 to week 13. Dig in.
Spagnuolo declines to second-guess decisions after Rams’ latest loss - A day after a three-point loss to the Arizona Cardinals, St. Louis Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo declined to second-guess decisions that factored into the defeat. Really, what's the point. He made the decisions, the outcome happened...move on. The only thing troubling here is the coach's steadfast belief that NOT trying to convert those fourth-and-short situations was the right thing to do.
Bernie Bytes: Monday Morning Backup QB - If you didn't read it yesterday, Miklasz is again a must-read. He points out, correctly, the foolishness of those decisions to punt on fourth-and-1, noting that the Rams defense had failed to stop Beanie Wells all day. Not being able to stop a running back should have loomed large in the decision to punt it away with roughly three minutes on the clock, when Arizona could easily wind it down and hold onto their lead.
Injuries hit Rams' punt coverage unit - First, it was the secondary. Then, it was the offensive line. Now, the punt coverage unit is dealing with a surreal number of injuries. Few look to be problem for the next game, which is a relative break for the Rams.
Rams' opponents will be tougher down stretch - As the controversy from the last game dies down, the Rams get ready to play the San Francisco 49ers, arguably the second-best team in the NFC. Spagnuolo noted that his team would prepare for San Francisco the same as if they were "9-2 instead of 2-9." Why does that seem to me to be part of the problem?
Jim Harbaugh & The 49ers Want To Clinch This Week - San Francisco head coach Jim Harbaugh told the press yesterday that it was "very important" that his team clinch's a playoff berth with a win this week against the Rams. They're aiming for the second seed in the playoffs and a first round bye.
