Ask Field Gulls

Hello TST. I'm Corax from Field Gulls. Here's where you get all the questions that've been nagging you about the Seahawks answered.

A couple things to note:

We're a young team, and as such are inconsistent due to the lack of offseason. That's not an excuse, it's a brutal fact. Sigh for being a fan in such times.
We arguably have the best two young safeties in the league with Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor.
TJack isn't as bad as you think. He's also not as good as you might hope.
Our run defense is mostly legit. The outlier is called 'DeMarco Murray'.
We'd like there to be a rivalry between the Rams and the Hawks, but reality forces us to see otherwise.
Marshawn Lynch is truth. I believe if you go to the Merriam-Webster site, you see 'Beef 'Mo' as a synonym for 'truth'. It might also be listed under 'justice' - I'll have to double check.

Anything else, you guys can shoot away and me or someone from Field Gulls will try to answer to the best of their ability! And let's keep it all civil.

So Carpenter is out for the Season, as is Moffit

that was an ‘oh SHIT’ moment if I’ve ever had one. Luckily, we have veterans on the that aren’t much of a dropoff if even that, who can fill in. Rice, Baldwin, Chancellor all suffered head injuries/concussions, and we’ll find out later today/tomorrow if they’re out or game-time decisions.

Chancellor practiced fully on Wednesday, much to Stephen Jacksons chagrin.

Baldwin and Rice were limited, which is a good sign for the Seahawks. If they’re able to practice, it means they were cleared to practice.

I’d be a bit shocked if either weren’t on the field come Sunday afternoon.

Always up for some Twitter action @nandron. I only talk NW sports, though.

Exotic Blitzes

With injuries to Moffitt and Carpenter, how well can your O-line pick up these blitzes?
I also foresee some wiggle room since TJack can scramble and has hurt the Rams in the past.

You guys are deep at receiver. Would think you plan on a balance attack against out depleted defense (top 4 CBs on IR).

by 81 Witness on Nov 17, 2011 10:56 AM CST reply actions

Shouldn't be too big of a factor

because of the fact that who we’re plugging in are all veterans. I mean, Moffit was doing okay, Carpenter was still getting blown up on a fair amount of plays, so TJack had to move around a bit anyways (see the 40+ yd Doug Baldwin reception in the Ravens game…I’ll see if I can dig up a GIF of it or something). Even though we have two potential no starters on the WR squad, Pete Carroll and John Schneider have to a degree covered their asses. Ben Obomanu is a great dependable WR, BMW will inevitably see catches if Rice is out, and Tate is playing like he has something to prove which is great. So, if I was the head coach planning for STL, I would definitely make the air game part of my attack strategy, because of the reason you mentioned, but also I wouldn’t give up on the run game. It’s clicked the last two games and even though we have a new right side of the line, the left is still the same with Gallery and Okung, and I’d imagine they’d continue to stick with it.

I'd bet money that TE Zach Miller will be helping block on the right side a lot.

He’s a good blocker so hopefully that will help, but I’m definitely worried about blitz pickup.

well, to me there's a pretty big rivalry

I’m from Alaska and I mainly know Seahawks and Packers fans; both my best friends are ‘hawk fans, so, to me there’ll be a rivalry as long as both are in the same division. Plus since the Hawks and Cards moved to the NFC West, here are the division champs:

2002 San Francisco 49ers
2003 St. Louis Rams
2004 Seattle Seahawks
2005 Seattle Seahawks
2006 Seattle Seahawks
2007 Seattle Seahawks
2008 Arizona Cardinals
2009 Arizona Cardinals
2010 Seattle Seahawks

There’s definitely a need to beat the Seahawks each and every year.

Oh, they're probably a need from other fans' views

but it’s nothing like the Ravens-Steelers, or any variation thereof. You know, a real rivalry where there’s real hate involved ;)

Yeah, but then this thread

would be nothing more then countless back and forth insults and unintelligent belligerent banter.

Rams on the Rise. We can't go down from here.

both these teams suck, so they want to out-suck each other (wow that sounded gay)

I think the rivalry just needs to be re-newed, cause these two teams hate each other. Most people on TST hate the 49ers the most, but to be it’s the Seahawks, then again, it’s probably based on my location

The rivalry thing is in reference to my post on Field Gulls yesterday. I don't believe the Hawks have any "real" rival.

The funny thing is that you say you hate the 49ers the most. Many Hawks fans say they hate the 49ers the most. And yet, I feel like the 49ers fans don’t really care that much about either of us.

We’ve had a good series (first you dominated, then we dominated) but in reality, it was mostly a series of who was the first to 9 wins (or 7 wins, as it were) and that’s just not a rivalry that’s going to get most people fired up. We don’t want to see who will suck less, we want to see who will be the best of the best.

Maybe in 2-3 years.

the rams really don't have a rival anymore either

just cause the teams don’t want to invest hate in a team that’s been “on IR since 2006”
I agree, in a couple years, when NFC West is more competitive, then there’ll be a “rivalry”

Realignment changed things

The Rams fans (like me ) have always had a hated rival. It was and is the 49ers. Back in the old days these two teams fought and slugged their way around the NFC west every year. Teams were much different before 1992. The west consisted of Rams, 49ers, Saints, and the Falcons. The only good teams at that time were the Rams and 49ers. Seattle was not very good in the AFC west and was not very good coming into the NFC. Teams are cyclicle. Every team will have their turn at some point. Patience is golden but hard to find.

I'm down with this

Was and always will be the fuckin n*ners, a name I can never capitalize or even spell out completely on my keyboard. And yes, it’s a 2 word team logo. I’ve always lived in the northwest and will never hate the Seahawks, although I talk a mean streak at work among my seahawks buddies. I used to hope for a Seattle Ram SB before you guys made the big leap to the NFC Worst.

Still, the Niners won the division in 12 of the 13 years prior to 1999. The Rams were the team to beat in 99 and 01. Then they moved.

You HATE the Niners because of the division dominance, but for the majority of the Niners it wasn’t a big debate between “Who will win between San Fran and St Louis?!” You can hate them, but they won that battle for a long, long time.

Division dominanace is not why I hate the fuckin n*ners

I guess you were responding to Moose, but I wanted to chime in. I lived in the BA for awhile and will never forget the hatred that was indoctrinated in me through that experience.

The dislike was there back when Torry Holt and Issac Bruce were on the team, really

plus Marc Bulger. Because they’d always torch our secondary. Man, did I hate those two guys. Great WRs, but from a Hawks fan standpoint, boy did I dislike them…

For me it's the Seahawks

For some reason, I’ve always hated the Seahawks A LOT more than the 49ers. I still hate those guys too, but I just really dislike the Seahawks a lot more. Hopefully within a few years, maybe this become a serious rivalry with teams on the rise and just about even as of right now.

It's put up or shut up time for these WR's. Someone's going to have to perform or else they'll all be hitting the street. ESPECIALLY YOU ALEXANDER

So do you hate the Rams as much as I hate the Seahawks??

There are only three teams in the sports world I hate more that the Seahawks: Detroit Red Wings, Manchester City, and those assholes at Tottenham

Niners and Cowboys

Them two bastard team..

As a Hawks fan, I find it hard to hate a team that sucks.

No offense, but the Rams have sucked. That looks to change with a young QB like Sam Bradford, but until you start pulverizing us, I’ll struggle to hate you. Maybe I’m too nice.

However, despite beating the 49ers last year once and once the year prior, I hate those fuckers for some reason. It’s probably the fans. Their fans are utter douchebags.

G’luck on Sunday. Bummer about your cornerbacks =(

I find it hilarious how much energy is being expended here discussing the 9ers. Just came by to wish the Rams luck, and no injuries to either team.

I think our division is too young to really have any hate

I dislike the Broncos, Titans, Jets, and Eagles way more than any team from our own division.

It doesn’t help that this division has a hard time fielding more than one competitive team at the same time, if even that.

I’d say 70-80% of 9ers fans are worth less than nothing. The difference between a bucket of shit and the 9ers fan base is the bucket.

Mariners fans in general don't have anything to root for

or at least, they didn’t until Dustin Ackley came on board. Even now it’s mostly ‘yay for the far future’.

well the couple games i went to, there were a bunch of blue jay fans

even though it’s probably cause they’re canadian, but none of the mariner’s fans gave them shit, we gave the players shit, but not fans; in fact, one of my friends from seattle said “nah, jays fans are pretty nice, why start something?” Pretty sure M’s fans just smoke a lot of weed.
