NFL Draft notes - late college open thread
Great day so far in college, but the big games are coming up (save for the ACC battle between Clemson and Virginia Tech that's been great for fans of defense).
The big two are great conference games, one of which you couldn't have said that about a year ago. The SEC night game is Florida-Alabama (MTD game notes), and if you're looking for NFL talent, you could pretty much get 15 future pros on the field at any time. Given the popular answer from the early thread, Rams fans may want to pay extra attention when Florida has the ball to get an eye on Alabama CB Dre Kirkpatrick. Also, look for two redshirt sophomores who I could see leaving after this season: Alabama OT D.J. Fluker and Florida OLB Jelani Jenkins.
Of course, the other game is the new Big Ten matchup between Wisconsin and Nebraska (MTD game notes). Again, there's a premier CB prospect in Nebraska's Alfonzo Dennard, whose skills I like better than his teammate from last year, Prince Amukamara. Amukamara, you'll remember, was a mid-1st round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
And as a programming note, this week buckeyefan55 and I will release our WR Big Boards. And no, they're not carbon copies of the MTD WR Big Board.
So hit it up here for the rest of the night with your scouting thoughts.

Janoris Jenkins is gonna fall to the second round cause people will forget how good he was at UF.

Bear in mind
Many agents behind the scenes are telling their clients who have first round potential to get to the draft early to avoid being taken in that first round. In other words, juniors and RS sophs who with another year of improved production and elevated technical skills would be first rounders would declare hoping to go in the second or later. Why? To get out of their rookie contracts that, because of the new CBA, drastically reduced the rookie pay scale.

Umm...
What did thy have to do with what I said? I’m talking about a guy who is playing D2 right now

He may fall further
because lots of juniors and RS sophmores may declare early to avoid being subject to the longer 1st round contracts. With a glut of talent, even if not NFL ready, someone with his red flags may drop beyond the 2nd.

What do you think about Nick Toon?

decent possession option
but a very limited athlete. In the right NFL system, he could be an effective #2 option, but not much beyond that. Shouldn’t be in play for the Rams.

WR need
In a draft class loaded with talent at the WR position, Michael Floyd looks like the most well rounded reciever of the bunch. He is a big target at 6’3", 225lbs. He runs excellent routes, has great hands, and racks up the YAC (and he finishes them off looking for contact and an extra couple yards). He is a good down field blocker as well. He has excellent body control and catches the ball at its peak (never lets it comes down to him). He will be a solid #1 in the NFL wherever he goes. I’d take him over Justin Blackmon and Alshon Jeffery.

Na im taking Alshon over him
He is more physical and just as much of a deep threat as Floyd. If Alshon had a better Qb he would but up better numbers than them all. Just inconsistent Qb play kinda reminds me of Heartless and his inconsistent Wrs huh?
Sam Bradford + Alshon Jeffery = All other teams are screwed!!

while I disagree
I rec for reasoned opinion. If we had an anti-rec, I’d give it to you for not hopping on more often.

while I'm no college expert
I’d like to request that you take away that Rec, because anyone who plays for Notre Dame blows (prior to and in the NFL)………as does that programs entire existence.
As you can see, I loathe ND
Me too,
but Joe Montana was pretty decent, just to name one =/

Yo,
where you ranking Robert Woods in the 2013 draft? It’s official, I’m hella man-crushing on him.

Been big on him and Kenny Stills
since early last year. Those two and Keenan Allen all true sophs this year.

I couldn't watch the UNC game last night
but Dwight Jones continues to look like a #1 from the highlights. He is is sure handed, catches the ball at it’s highest point and is big part of why the Tar Heels have only once not managed a TD when they got the RZ this year.
I saw a comparison to Sidney Rice on MTD. I don’t think that is unfair, it is just Jones has more speed, less injury concerns and coming out of a pro style offense he shouldn’t require as much time to adapt to the BFL.
I’ll be interested to see where 3k & Buckeye have him in the rankings.
Mohamed Sanu
Tall, very fast and is tough…..He lays out players when blocking…..Very similar to Hackim Nicks.
