Can Jackson's back up can be Jackson's clone?
So I'm reading up on all the possible free agents that could be heading into the pool and be up for grabs. And with all these possiblities out there regarding WR's, OL, DL etc...I've really payed close attention to the RB position. We all know Steven Jackson is who he is because of his attributes (Size, Speed, Vision, and just sheer Skull bashing skills) so it would make sense to use him as much as possible right? Now he has takin full advantage of our need for him by breaking records and keeping us competative in most games but it also has worn him down some and makes us wonder how long he can keep this up before we run him down to a nub. So however good we are with 1 Steven Jackson imagine how much better we can be with 2. Now hear me out because i know your all like "How can we have 2 Jackson's with the lack of scientific break throughs in this department Smash? Well I'll tell you....Le’Ron "Freakin" McClain. Yes I said it. In recent news he had told the media that his return to Baltimore, although intrested would seem very unlikely with the emergence of Ray Rice and salary of Willis Mcgahee (even with a paycut). http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=nfp-20110117_leron_mcclain_on_if_hell_be_back_i_doubt_it
He was pretty much a strict FB the past 2 years and he was great at that too but not too long ago when injuries broke down the Ravens backfield it was McClain who rushed for 900+ yrds and 10 TD's. He has proven he can carry the rock and with his running style and can sure wear down defenses.
We had some failures in finding a adequate backup for Jackson thus keeping him out there longer and cutting down his full effectiveness deep in the 4th qtr. Darby isnt the answer (though he should stay on the team), Toston fail, Ogbannwatever fail, and many others i forgot. This has proven to be a real issue and hasnt received the attention it deserves via Free agency or Draft. McClain seems almost too perfect for us for these reasons.
1.He is versatile: He can block blitzers and open holes for Jackson as well as catch the ball out of the backfield and carry the ball if need be (which we really need) and if Jackson gets hurt he can more than handle the responsiblity of being the #1 when called upon.
2. He wants a bigger role: Ever since he broke out as a rusher he has said time and time again he wants to be more involved in the offensive game plan and have a bigger role in the run game (which the Ravens havent done for him) so he admittingly said he'll look for a place he can be and we NEED someone to take a bigger role in that aspect.
3. He's a clone: Jackson is 6'2 236, McClain is 6'0 260...ok so not identical per say but their physicality is similiar and after 2 1/2 qtrs of getting hit by Jackson then having to face McClain Defenses will for sure fall to the ground. McClain's biggest asset is power with a mix of vision and decent speed for his size. A 1..2 punch with those two will be unmatched and a nightmare to game plan against.

We need speed, preferably Jacquizz Rodgers IMO
It will be useless to continuously, pound and pound and pound and wear down opposing defenses, if you can’t get a speed guy in there to completely dash the entire opposition while they’re gasping for air.
I wouldn’t mind him as a FB though.
My sentiments exactly
We need a shifty back who can turn the corner and break one after Jackson has done the heavy work of tiring down the D with his relentless pounding.
I'm suffering from an extreme case of laurinaitis!

All I saw was a big guy slowly slugging his way down the field
and if it weren’t for 1 blocker, he EASILY would’ve been caught.

The first play, that’s what we need in SJax backup. Noel Devine wouldn’t be a bad consolation prize, but I believe Rodgers is a STEAL in round 4. He may even drop further.
No way, You tell me any Oregon ST RB that ever had success in the NFL?
………………………..Just kidding………..lol

Im sure the FO would get someone in the draft
Maybe not till much later if we can lure McClain here but it wouldnt be a dire need and a guy like quizz would deff be there after the 5th round much like some other speedsters. If we could get McClain though that upgrades the FB position and a solid short yardage change up back/ not change of pace.

It's all gonna come down to money
We have too much tied up in Bradford to overpay a BU RB. I’m sure he’ll want more than we’re willing to pay at this point for a b/u RB.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d really like to have him on the team and if the FO can swing a deal they will. We would have a much better ground game, that is for sure!
McClain
It makes a lot of sense. I think McClain would be great in short yardage situations and the RZ. The Rams have demonstrated an abilty to get in the RZ; perhaps McClain can be a weapon to get six while down there.
LaMichael James
I personally am willing to wait the one year necessary to get the best back up RB possible and Long Term successor to, his holiness, Steven Jackson! James is a beast!
Really,
you want a 5’9 185 pound guy as your number 1 rb?
If it doesn't matter who wins or loses, then why do they keep score?
