Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Why The rams will beat the Cardinals: Agree, contructive criticism?

I think it is a real possibility that the Rams will beat the Cards on sunday.

1) This team seems hungry and motivated to prove themselves, and (hopefully) the home opener will make the Dome a hostile environment to a team, with a quarter back trying to show that he wasn't a one year wonder.

2) I really believe the jey is the Defensive line. Chris Long had a strong finish to last year, and i suspect he will start better than he did last season. I'm blanking on the name of the DT that has really look ATLEASED solid so far, recovering from being out all last year with an injury. And hopefully another person can make a few plays.

3) I like our corners- Bartell is said to be healthier than last year, and people expect him to lay more like he did 2 years ago. I happen to be a big fan of  Bradley Fletcher, and with (i believe, correct me if im wrong) Larry Fitz is out for sundays game. Or atleased will not be 100 percent.

4) Derek Anderson. I happen to believe he is a bad QB, as even if you look at his one good year- his play Significantly in the second half and had several recievers with that Lary Fitz like ability to attack the ball and make an innacurate pass turn into a great play

5)  OJ Otogwe is a ball hawk, and i'd like to see him step up and take advantage of Derek Anderson's accuracy issues.

6) James L in his second year.

PS- I happen to believe the whole defense will be solid this year, with learning the scheme completely after one year in it. I think the LB core is solid.

I'm not going to "Break down" the Offense-

What do you think?

I miss read- Fitz will likely be on the field- barring a setback, so that changes things

But still, we have a shot. Is he 100%?

DT who was injured

What DT are you talking about? I know Fred Robbins had surgery in 08 and had a down year in 09.. but IDK of someone who was out for the 09 season

2 words...Steven Jackson

Losing Dansby on the other side of the ball will be the game breaker for the Rams. Not many people had an easy time stopping SJ39. And when you lose your best linebacker, thats when you have to play catch-up. As long as Sheriff Sam can somewhat keep the rest of the defense honest, I think we have a great shot. The Rams D will need to stiffen up also. Beanie is no joke, nothing needs to be said about Fitz. I want to see Long and Hall bring some much needed pressure.12th MAN needs to show up BIG TIME

When the O-line opens up running lanes,

and we know they will, SJax is going to find Paris Lennon starting at ILB. We know how bad he was last year and I can’t see any reason to suspect he has suddenly become substantially improved. Even Darby should look like a Pro Bowler against Lennon!

Probably talking about Gary Gibson. He was on IR last year.

I think he is talking about Gibson

Gibson looked really good before being cheap shotted and lost for the year!

Really hard to follow your post

The offense has more weapons and will continue to gel together as the season wears on. Having 39 and 8 line-up in the backfield gives me great confidence. Our DL, CB, and LB situation has slightly improved and has another year under the Flajole scheme. The only aspect I worry about, is that the DEs will not get enough production or that the RBs learn to run sideline to sideline, which is our defense’s weakness.

I'm really hoping the first play of the season is a flea flicker.

Everyone’s expecting run to start Sam’s career, and I think that could really fool them and get Bradford off to a Matt Ryan type start.

Shurmur, your career is in 3rd and long. Don't run a draw.

I think....

You may have a solid chance of topping us…Our shakeup on the Oline, and the QB carousel may have us coming out of the gate relatively slow…On D again we have new faces in the middle, in the secondary, so we should start relatively slow…and to top it off Gerald Hayes is out (my opinion he’s one of the more underrated run stopppers) with how he keeps the best RB in the NFL relatively quiet twice a yeaqr..How is your offensive line coming along? I think the key to the game is how our Dline and your Oline match up…We are as talented and deep as anyone Dline wise…Anyways…Here’s too a good one on sunday

The O-line started slow

But has really stepped it up by the end of the preseason. And I love how you acknowledge Steven Jackson as the best RB in the NFL, few give him the credit he deserves. (Hopefully you’re not talking about Frank Gore). I think it will be a good game Sunday. I think if our O-line plays well, we have a real shot at this game. I’ve heard very little about your cornerbacks, are they any good?

Shurmur, your career is in 3rd and long. Don't run a draw.

first game of preseason our o-line started out rough

but they weren’t all there (injuries) and we had a rookie LT who was experiencing his first NFL game against Jarod Allen (probowler).. after that though they got healthy got to where they were playing together and by the last couple of games started jelling and looking really really impressive. They definately aren’t bad…. i just want to see a real season live football game to make my judgement on whether or not they are good. I really want to see our D against your Oline and see if Long can exploit Brown and get some pressure going on the quarterback early. I think that will just as big of a key to the game. If we can blitz and get him choking a little I really think it could be the difference maker.

A reply from a Cardinals fan

1) Hungry and motivated. Same can be said for the Cardinals. As you all well know the 49ers are being handed the division by every talking head and so called expert around. You have to believe the reigning division champs are not taking that lightly.

2) Defensive lines. The Cardinals defensive line will be the strength of their defense this year. They have been hailed by some as the best 3-4 D line in the league. We expect a lot from Dockett, Campbell and crew this season. The Cardinals offensive line has been jumbled around this season. They are progressively improving. The Rams D has a good chance of exploiting them at times this early in the season as their chemistry is not 100% yet.

3) We like our corners too. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is becoming one of the very best at the position. Our other corner is 2nd year player Greg Toler who is pretty damn good too. There is great potential for them to develop into the scariest pair of corners in the nfl. With the addition also of Kerry Rhodes next to Adrian Wilson the secondary looks much improved over last season.
Fitz WILL play sunday. That alone I’d say gives the Cards the edge in the receiver vs secondary battle. We’ve got a stable full of impressive WRs we’d put against any other team though. Even if Fitz isn’t 100% we’ll be okay in that dept.

4) Derek Anderson. Until he proves he’s not a bad QB there’s not much point in even trying to debate this. He’s got the trust of his team in a way Leinart never did. Needless to say Cardinals fans will be waiting with a certain level of anxiety in the post Warner era to see how this plays out. I think the QB match up in this game will be interesting. The #1 draft pick in his first real game playing opposite the former pro bowler seeking redemption with a new team.

5) We’ve got our ball hawks too. I’ll be waiting to see the Cards D force your rookie QB into a mistake they can take advantage of. I’ll really be watching the pressure applied to Bradford, and also hoping that Anderson’s 58.9% accuracy can be improved on.

6) Second year player to watch on the Cardinals – Greg Toler CB. I’d say Beanie Wells too but it looks like he’ll be out with a bruised knee. Special teams aces LaRod Stephens-Howling and Jason Wright will probably rotate in place of Wells. Tim Hightower is still the starter at RB.

I can’t argue your assessment that there is a real possibility of the Rams upsetting the Cardinals on sunday. With Bradford at the helm the Rams have shown they can put up points. Only time will tell what he can do in the regular season. Don’t expect him to burn up the Cardinals defense like Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers did in last year’s playoffs though.

It’s popular to be down on the Cardinals this season but don’t underestimate them. Much has been made of all their losses player-wise this off season. Not much notice has been taken of their replacements. Derek Anderson aside, there are quality players in each of those spots. The two weak areas going into the season for the Cardinals are inside linebacker, as Gerald Hayes is on the PUP list and of course the big question mark that is at QB.

Looking forward to a great divisional match up to kick off the season. The Rams are finally moving in the right direction in building the team. They won’t be beating my Cardinals this week but they are on their way to being a good ball club. Here’s to the day when the NFC west is no longer the most disrespected division in football.
