Week 1 predictions: Rams vs Arizona
In just a matter of days the St. Louis Rams will start the 2010 season with a home game against the Arizona Cardinals. It's part of the franchise's long march back to respectability.
Expectations are high, noticeably so for a team that won just one game last year. You can thank rookie QB Sam Bradford and his inspiring preseason performance for that. This week, however, he'll be paired with RB Steven Jackson for the entire game, which should help erase painful memories of a team that could barely muster 10 points a game last year.
And with that, let's have fan predictions for this week's game. In the poll below, you can pick the winner. In the comments, give us your other predictions for the game...things like which player will have the biggest impact, stats for Bradford or Jackson or some other player who could surprise us. Lots of things can happen, so let us know what you think will.

Caution Be Damned
We win this game and start the Bradford era with a bang!
“Mark it!”
Interesting vote outcome...
not one pessimest amongst us with 19 votes counted. I like it!
I'm the 2nd pessimist among us
But damn do I hope I’m wrong.
I just don’t want to undervalue Arizona.
Also the Rams first-team offense looked great last week against the Ravens, but I still remember that this o-line is not impenetrable.
Arizona is gonna come at Bradford hard. I have a hard time picking the Rams until I see them win, and I really, truly hope I am wrong.

Saffold
… needs to manhandle Darnell Docket and we will have a great game.
Peter King (SI) picked him as a finalist for ROY. Crazy!
Well, Peter King is wrong...
Sam Bradford will be the Rookie of the Year…. with Ho-oh coming in 2nd. Saffold will be 3rd but that’s because it’s hard to tell how a really good LT makes a QB look good.

Besides for the Awesome Homer-ness
The point about an LT winning in a year where his QB is a rookie is very interesting. If Saffold plays well, that automatically makes Bradford better.
Bradford would have to be completely horrible for his LT to make more of an impact then he does.
peter king also picked the steelers to the win the superbowl.
the guy is insane.
block! building kick! exploooooooosion!

Undersated!
Did you see his score prediction? 23-10 really? I won’t read any more of his garbage picks. I also pick the Rams to win a close one. Just too many losses acrross the board for Arizona and much improvement for the Rams. The Cards are at home, 20-17 Rams! Bradford goes 19-25 260+ yds 1td 1 int, Sjax 25-110 1td and defense gets 2 turnovers.
Good Luck Sam but be realistic Ram Fans
It’s going to be a rough season for Sam the Ram. Although, it would be nice to see him torch the Cardinals and Bidwell.
Possession
If the Rams continue their massive time of possession factors into this game, AZ don’t stand a chance. I have a feeling, Whisenhunt is going to ground and pound us with Anderson being inconsistent in pre-season. It’s going to take him several games to get in sync with his receivers.
Rams 24, Arizona 17
i hope so
because our strong suit on defense is against the run. We are definately showing that as our biggest strength so far this season, at least as far as the defense goes.
rams to win
im gonna start the season in an optimistic frame of mind, think we could win by 3 17 14 maybe provided the offense plays the same way it did in preseason n doesnt just run run run esp on 3rd n long like last year
That's right Jeff!
I am going with 24-20 Cards. Bradford sacked 4 times and throws his first pro pick or two and has around 210 yards with a throwing thouchdown. However we will be able to take some good away from the game as far as learning. I hope that Shurmer doesn’t put the handcuffs on our offense again.
Ignorance is bliss and way too many people are happy.
Rams 27-23
Bradford for 19-27 285yds 2 touchdowns, 1 pick.
"The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall." - Vince Lombardi
First Game
Would put him in the top 10% of rookie QB starts.
Hope you’re right!
38-23
We’re gonna hammer them boys. No Warner = no Cards. And them 23 are gonna be coming late in the game when we go to the prevent D.
The KING is gonna throw for 3 TDs: 2 to Uh-oh and one to Amendola. SJax is gonna run for the other two that’ll be set up by the passing game.
We will struggle offensively against the best teams in the NFL but we’re gonna rack up points against scrubs like AZ.
LONG LIVE THE KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rams win
they’re the sleeper this year in a weak division.
….i wish
"Twin-headed infinite swirling vortex of grotesque suckitude known as Tony Clark and Eric Byrnes"
Depends on if the offense can establish rhythm early
If Sam is able to get rhythm established early (ala Patriots game), and the receivers are running crisp routes and fighting for extra yards, then I would expect somewhere around 14-21 points by halftime.
exactly
my biggest fear is that Sam gets nerves because he looks at it as different than the preseason. His first preseason game he was shakey with his snaps handoffs and rushed his releases all because of nerves. By the 3rd game he got his rythym. If he can carry that rythym into this game i think we win. If his nerves get the best of him, we loose.
Prediction...
Rams win the coin toss…. will receive.

Everything depends on the offensive line
…are they the real deal? It so looks like they took a giant leap forward in their abysmal ability to pass protect. But nobody has any idea until game one rolls around. If the rams pass protection is good, Sam and many other elements of this team are going to shine and the Cardinals are going to go down.
However, if we start seeing that 3rd and 7 double blitz and linebackers coming free, then Sam will just look like Marc.
I didnt mean to sound so negative...
… I am on the edge of my seat and sunday cannot get here fast enough. I even bought the nfl sunday ticket this season!
The KING...
…will NEVER look like Bulger.

and...
…I"m thinking about getting Sunday Ticket too…it’s such a ripoff but I’m so excited I just might buy it!

They have a deal going...
If you buy it, you get all the movie channels for free for like 6 months… This is obviously targeted so that your wife can be in on the irresponsible purchasing decision LOL! Smart marketing.
Anyone know where I can catch the game on the puter?
Ignorance is bliss and way too many people are happy.
Trying to be objective here...
… but I truly believe that if the Rams win on Sunday, it would boost their confidence and go 3-1 or 4-0. If the Rams lose, we would 1-3 or 0-4.
Having said that, I believe that we can take the W on Sunday. I think Bradford will have a 250+ yrd game with 3 TDs and no picks. Two of those TDs will go to the TEs and one to Steven Jackson.
Go Rams!!!
Perfect Upset Situation for Rams
Cardinals are not even sure about their own starting quarterback. Derek Anderson is nothing special. The Rams are at home, and the Cardinals still have holes to fill. Bradford will lead this team to victory Week 1. 27-20.
and it's a full house
wooo hooo….. rams fans showing their support in the dome
rams win 17-10.....
Arizona is going to come out stacking the box against jackson and Bradford is going to light them up
Just like the old days
We’re gonna score two quick TDs, slow down their running game and force Anderson to beat us in the air. Rams win by 17

Love your enthusiasm!
Still, have to ask…what color is the sky in your world?
Oh! Of course! Blue and gold!
Blessings!

Of course the sky is blue and gold. Isn’t it everywhere?

Well duh
There’s the golden sun… and there’s the blue stuff where the sun isn’t.
It’s science.

Will be close
If Rams Defense shows up they should win. This game is scary Cards have a good defense.Should be close.
If you voted for the cardinals...

I resent that
By voting for the Cardinals, it just means I root against my own intuition.

I can't believe any true fan would vote against The Rams
It’ll be a close game. The cards have lost some key players but I think they still have an effective team. The game will be won or lost by a turnover. The score will be around 27 – 24 Rams.
"SJAX" - The extra strength cleaner that fights off that Stubborn, Stingy Defense
Like I said....it's called reality and it sucks.
Our boys are much improved and are fighters, so I did take a lot of good vibes from the game.
Ignorance is bliss and way too many people are happy.
I see the AP writer
said the Cards would win 20 – 3. He’s obviously another writer who hasn’t even bothered to see how the Rams have done this preseason. He just assumes we still have no clue on offense.
Most of the talking heads are that way
In their assessment, the Patriots are superbowl contenders and the eastern division is the powerhouse in the NFC when it is obvious from last year that the new power lies in the north and south. In fact, the NFC east looks as weak as the NFC West.
It is going to be awesome to see...
…Jackson for a full game playing at full speed! Damn it, it is only wednesday!!
If all goes well on offense (and I mean ALL)...
then they put 30 points up no problem. I don’t think the Cards D is really that good, so it’s possible. Worst case scenario, we only score 17. However I think the Rams D will give up at least 20 or more points no matter what. I hope they can prove me wrong on this, but I’m still not sure how well the unit will play together for 4 quarters of regular season football. Either way I’m stoked to see this team finally play a full game together.
Winners train. Losers complain.

Rams/Cardinals
I think the author would have been wise to include the Rams healthy, newly rebuilt O-Line along with the usual praise for Bradford and Jackson. If they are to have success, it still begins in the trenches.
Without Barron and Incognito drawing false start and personal fouls,
we should have no problem winning this game!!
Yeah, we were losing because of Barron and Incognito! Hahaha! Damn those 15 losses caused by holding and false starts.
Ignorance is bliss and way too many people are happy.
Don't laugh...
Barron’s false starts and Incognitos personal fouls killed several drives in week 1 last year vs. Seattle. That chain of events contributed (though not necessarily the smoking gun) to a 1-15 season. Couldn’t score in the redzone when Bulger couldn’t convert 3rd and 8, Barron was false starting, and Incognito’s was low-blowing a defender. Thank God all that’s in the rear-view mirror. Go Rams in 2011!!!!!!
I was at that Seattle game
Barron ruined it for me.
That bastard.

Rams 34-24
Sam throws 3 td’s and no int’s, Jackson has one rushing TD and one recieving. First offensive play is a flea flicker to Robinson for a 76 yd TD, at least that’s the play I would call.
by Caruso on Sep 8, 2010 4:59 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
84-7...
Okay, fiiine. 27-17 Sam – 16/25 236 yards 2 td’s. SJax – 24 carries 117 yards 1 td. Chris Long 1.5 sacks, JL 10 tackles, 4 for a loss, Atogwe with a pick since DA likes to go deep and fail at it.
I used to upload the NCAA Football '09 and '10 rosters into Madden and always drafted Sam Bradford onto the Rams in Franchise Mode...I liked him before he was cool =)
Rams Dynamic Duo on Sunday!!
Look for this Combination Sunday….BRADFORD + AMENDOLA!!! & Watch Big “D” return one longggggggggggg!!! I tell ya this lil white boy can catch ANYTHING CLOSE!!!
21-17 Rams
Jackson rushes for 85 yards and a TD, despite the Cards stacking 8-9 guys in the box every play. Luckily this opens up the passing game letting Bradford throw for 210 yards and 2 TDs, 1 to Laurent Robinson, and 1 to either Amendola or Hoomanawanui.
...
I don’t think Sam ‘gels’ with Clayton really until week three or so, see.
Season Starts
As a Cardinals Fan, I can understand you Rams fans looking for anything positive for your season opener, but this isn’t it. Your team has come a long way in a very short time and you do have a lot to look forward to, but not this game. Watching all the things that’s happened to my Cardinals since Warner’s retirement, I’ve realized that the most important thing EVERYONE misses, is the fact that the coaching staff is still in tact. That makes it BAD for everyone who under estimates the Cardinals. Sure, new QB, new LB’s, new OL’s, but the same coaches. BUT, just like you, until the fat lady sings, it all speculation. Good Luck to all of us.
Warner was the savior of the Cards the same as he was with the Rams,
I just hope you don’t decend the way we did after he left. Rams & Cards 1 & 2 of the division will make me happy any day.
i think you're wrong
As a Cardinals Fan, I can understand you Rams fans looking for anything positive for your season opener, but this isn’t it.
bullshit, we aren"t “looking for anything positive” we’re looking for a WIN – big difference… don’t underestimate us man, i can tell you’ve been reading too many national sportswriters because you think the Rams are the same as the 1-15
do i think we will win? time will tell… do i think we can? hell yeah so im looking for more than just positive outcomes

17-7 Rams
Everyone will see how horrible the Cards offense will be without Kurt Warner. Sam will play well but will throw at least 1 pick and will be under 200 yards, but hell move the chains like no other.
Fallacies.
Everyone but us assumes that because we were 1-15 last year, we will be this year as well. This is a fallacy. Miami in ‘07 was 1-15. In ’08, they were 11-5. Now, do I think we’ll be 11-5? No. I’ll be pleased if we’re in the 6-9 wins range. But the nay-sayers who pencil us in for ‘2-14’, and finishing behinds the Seahawks piss me off.
