Labor Day / Boise St. v. Va. Tech open thread
The annual is out. The Rams picked up former Raven WR Mark Clayton. And in the NFC West, two big stories. Matt Leinart was cut by the Cardinals, and T.J. Houshmandzadeh enjoyed the same fate from the Seahawks. And TSR returned to the "airwaves." What a weekend.
The perfect cap? Meaningful college football. Dump your brain here. (My watch list is here)

Putting on my hater cap
I just hope Boise State loses, and preferably a resounding defeat. Their fans (well, the ones I know) annoy me to no end. No reason other than that, really.
I'm ready for Ryan Williams to tear it up

Beamer Ball
is pretty embarrassing right now. Out of bounds on the kickoff? Great, what is Boise’s average starting field position? Like 50?
I used to upload the NCAA Football '09 and '10 rosters into Madden and always drafted Sam Bradford onto the Rams in Franchise Mode...I liked him before he was cool =)
Kellen Moore Is not impressing me.
His receivers are making some great plays. He is making bad throws.

Who
Roberts?
You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

Mini notes
Boise St. defense is strong, particularly D-line. Va. Tech’s O-line is no joke, and the Bronco’s front fatties are making it happen. Safeties look good too.
That being said, the Hokies’ Oline has been disappointing. Not buying DeChristopher. Now their defense? Not bad. Especially secondary. Time for more notes.

Va Tech looks bad in pass protecting
Whoever is making the protection calls is making them completely wrong. The linemen look like they dont know where to block. Tyrod also has not been looking downfield when hes been scrambling besides on that last touchdown pass.
totally agree
Tyrod’s lack of downfield vision has got me tearing my ball hair out. Anytime Ryan Williams is off the field is a mistake too.

Just a heads up
if our dline starts getting consistent pressure on this Moore guy, that’s all she wrote. He’s got this backfoot-go-to-lob that we’ll be tearing up in the second half. If we get the lead Ryan Williams will be taking over on his way to the Heisman ceremony.
PS Yes I refer to my team as ‘we’, bite me

Moore has a weak arm
that the WAC has never been able to expose. Good coverage with good pass rushing and he’s done.

Though he's still good at not turning the ball over.
He’d just have a performance like he did against TCU…constant checkdowns.

Lmao.
Leinart is my favorite college player ever but I really can’t back him up. He’s ruining his own career by acting like a spoiled moron who can’t shut up.

seriously if he kept his mouth shut he'd probly still be playing for the cardinals
and still be fighting for a starting job. now hes on the texans right? no chance he takes the starting job there.
Yep
and nope. Schaub is Houston’s hero haha. He drove himself out of town, that comment about why Anderson was starting the preseason… It’s the PRESEASON! Just work your way back to the starting position and stop talking!

i love to see vt claw their way back
i grew up surrounded by vt fans so im close to them but the terps are still my team. i just gotta say im so proud of my terps right now. umd coaches made some real bone headed decisions but we still prevailed. how many times did the terps stop navy, a powerful running team, on the goalline…was it 3 or 4 times? amazing. that one play where a terp leaped over the offense and defensive lines to fall on the QB to force a fumble at the goal line was so beautiful it almost brought tears to my eyes. and the ending of the game. wow, just wow.
Sounds like it was a good game.
I was just playing DotA waiting for this game, maybe I should have finished it.

yeah i dont come across many people who are passionate about sports and videos games like me
i started playing sc2 late in the summer but then college came around and i just dont have the time for it now
Yeah college is sucking my computer time as well lol.
I’m half Korean, born and raised, and I suck at SC lol so I don’t really play that.

wait your korean and suck at SC?? ur a rare breed man
my play is nothing to brag about either but once i stopped caring about my record and just had fun i enjoyed it
Yes, yes I am lmao.
I feel you, same for DotA for me, can’t seem to get on a good team so I just worry about how I do and don’t care if I lose lol.

Julio Jones for Rams 2011
I like VaTechs approach to recruiting
They always have multiple weapons. Several options whom could hurt a defense, in a number of ways.
yeah
we usually recruit conservatively and win on scheme. Foster’s 4-3 is supriingly effective against everything, spread is fine and pro-style is even better. I think our recievers will be suprisingly effective in the NFL with Boykin, Marcus Davis, and Danny Coale all being premier possession guys a la Josh Morgan. Loving the game!!!!!!
Julio Jones for Rams 2011
man t mobile has really impressed me today
he just has a way of extending the play. i already knew he could run but his passing game has been nice as well
got a lot of Roethlisberger in him if you ask me though
he rolls till someone’s super open versus makin the difficult throw, should be interesting if he progresses in the NFL. He’s got the tools but he’s been stubborn about learning to pass if you ask me. A good Dolphins QB.

Taylor rolls to his left too much
I don’t know if thats by design or not but it’s not efficient. Anyhoo heres that bend but don’t break defense again. This would give me gray hairs if I watched them all season long. I remember when the Ducks D was like this about 10 years ago.
Hate that call
LB has to play the whistle. Weak

So pissed...

No they shouldnt
Their schedule is a JOKE. Join a real conference or schedule Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, and Florida EVERY year.
Boise has offered to fly anywhere in the country to play any team
and teams are running away from the offer.
Not their fault other teams are scared to play them.
Logic merely enables one to be wrong with authority
Really?
Explain to me why Nebraska and Alabama haven’t scheduled a game against Boise again? It definitely didn’t have to do with those two being scared. Next time, don’t turn down a real powerhouse like Alabama to play a very good team like V-Tech when your conference schedule is one of the weakest in the nation. If Boise had the same schedule as Texas (Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, possible Big 12 title match) or Florida (LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Florida State, possible SEC title match) do you think they would have scheduled an out-of-conference game with a team of Boise’s caliber? Please look at it both ways and don’t be such a hypocrite, especially when they were the ones who didn’t want to play Nebraska and Bama.
I used to upload the NCAA Football '09 and '10 rosters into Madden and always drafted Sam Bradford onto the Rams in Franchise Mode...I liked him before he was cool =)
Boise doesn't have a legit threat
at an upset in their conference schedule like all other big 6 teams do. They’re definitely good but the fact that their schedule is such a joke while other conferences have a realistic chance at getting upset against multiple teams in their conference should keep them out if the computer had a brain.
I used to upload the NCAA Football '09 and '10 rosters into Madden and always drafted Sam Bradford onto the Rams in Franchise Mode...I liked him before he was cool =)
They won't if
There is another in beaten team. They are banking on VT to go unbeaten here on out that should guarantee them a spot in… Also they have consistently beaten top teams I think they deserve more cred than people give them. They beat Oklahoma, Oregon twice, TCU, Oregon State, and now VT they’ve proven themselves enough the WAC may not be top quality but they get every teams best shot every week something OSU or Alabama just doesn’t because teams think they can compete anyway. Florida came in expecting to beat Alabama and got trumped. This year watch as teams like Arkansas beat the big boys because they bring their best shot and teams that feel like they can compete easily get blown away
by zaviex on Sep 6, 2010 11:01 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
Are you high?
Teams dont big their A game when they play Alabama or Florida or Ohio State? Really? Really? Really?
Have you ever actually watched college football or do you just mutter whatever random thoughts pop out of your head?
I know Arkansas well, theyll loose a couple of game because their defense is horrible. They wont be able to stay undefeated in the SEC.
Boise is a good team, definitely.
I never said they weren’t. But put them in Florida’s shoes and have them play LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Florida State AND a possible SEC title match where you won’t even know who you’ll be playing for most of the year and understand why they don’t want to play Boise as an out-of-conference match-up.
I used to upload the NCAA Football '09 and '10 rosters into Madden and always drafted Sam Bradford onto the Rams in Franchise Mode...I liked him before he was cool =)
I don't like Boise
but, to me, it means there needs to be a playoff instead of this BCS BS. Until there is the argument will never go away.
Summarizing a VT fans feelings
Boise looked good, not sure if they were better than the Hokies, but deserving of playing good competition at the very least. Their defensive line is extremely effective, not sure of the prospects on that line, but I’d like to see more than one of them play for us in the future. I’m still out on how good their offense really is, the WR’s are above average, no doubt, but best in the nation? Don’t think so. When we brought the pressure and effectively rattled their passing game, they effectively exploited the running lanes left by blitzers- a sign of good coaching/coordinating. I don’t think they have the talent of a top 10 team but they definitely can hold their own against the best teams in the nation.
Virginia Tech: has always been a second half team. Not surprising to see them struggle early and catch on after a retooling of their gameplan at halftime. It was obvious that without pressure Kellen Moore would take the Hokies apart, but bringing pressure has it’s downfalls in the coverage department which was elevated by the lack of experience on D. Bud Foster’s move to the more conservative when games are close, is well documented throughout VT history and was put on showcase again with Kellen Moore’s game winning drive. The blitz on the TD pass came a few first downs too late, and the O was rolling by that time. I can’t expect much out of Stinespring’s play calling as it has never been an advantage but Foster’s defensive deformity always present at the end of close games must be remedied.
Overall Great Game…we’ll get um next time Hokies!
