Bradford to Clayton "Breakdown" WK 2

Hey guys. What a deflating loss. I thought I would do a breakdown on one of the positive events of the game, that is the 7 yard TD pass from Bradford to Clayton.

This play impressed me a lot. The chemistry Bradford and Clayton have shown has been incredible. One thing I want you to watch is how Clayton does not sell his route until he has to. All the great receivers possess this quality, and Clayton demonstrated that here.

I have no doubt that we can get this train moving. Let's face it, we are 2 missed field goals away from 2-0 right now. As bad as things look, there are some bright spots. Enjoy the breakdown.

I honestly love these! and you are right we are not playing badly… we’re just 6 points from 2-0, can anyone honestly say that about any game last season besides the jags/saints/texans game??? noo you can hardly say that we had a lead in ANY game..

I lot over enthusiatic post & It is depressing to me. IMHO

Lets make sure we have the facts right here. Clayton was expandable and was the Fourth wide reciever on a playoff caliber team before Ravens upgraded. Now lets put this into context on how bad the Rams current wide reciever corp is. Avery is hurt all the time and is a clear bust, ditto for Laurent Robinson. Amedola(sp) is the little engine that could. At best the Rams WR corp should be Clayton, Gibson and Amedola/Gilyard in the slot/4th wide out(if we ever use a 4th WR)

Clayton is the clear #1 on this team. At best he should be a #3 or a possession receiver on a playoff team. Would be nice if any of them would get a Fly or a Go patterned call for them.

It's not his fault he is the best we got

2 TD’s = GREAT GAME.

One was one of the best catches you’ll ever see.

I’ll take Clayton as a #3 any day of the week.

Also, for the record

This was a great play. And also, I work very hard to put these together, and I do it voluntarily because I love the Rams, and I love this site and it’s fans. I can take constructive crticism all day, no offense, but please don’t call me over enthusiastic when what I stated was absolutely fact.

+1 Vt

Clayton has done a hell of a job with being here all of what 12 days?? And the chemistry he has been able to develop with bradford IS incredible considering the time line. It isn’t over enthusiasctic. They ran a great play and they performed the whole thing well. Obcviously, that is why it was a touchdown, because the LB bit exactly like we wanted him to. Don’t let it get you down. We all appreciate what you do for this site. The problem is, when you put yourself in the public relm… you can never make everyone happy. So you just say screw it and do what you do best.

oh idiot

Mark Clayton had 9 TDs in 2006 thats #1 numbers

by zaviex on Sep 20, 2010 8:18 PM CDT up reply actions

Yes, let's get the facts right.

Last year Clayton was the #2 WR on the Ravens behind just Mason, and he was their deep threat. He didn’t fall to #4 until they added Boldin and Housh. He wasn’t #4 before those additions.

dont you see it VT?!!!

Shurmur can call plays! he just doesnt call them at the right time!

if jackson gets 75 yards in the first half… STOP RUNNING him and use play action when you get that ball rolling THEN get back to the run game

i really like shurmurs playbook i do NOT like the order in which he chooses to call plays

by zaviex on Sep 20, 2010 8:15 PM CDT reply actions

No keep doing what your doing!

Maybe I misconstrued what you were saying. It seemed to me like Clayton was being anointed as a #1 quality NFL reciever. He is clearly not. Unfortunately, he is on our team. That what I found depressing is all. No disrespect meant..

Hey sorry for the misunderstanding

These weeks after a loss are tough.. I apologize if I over-reacted :-)

Love the weekly breakdowns!

Anyone notice the Rams have the least points scored against them in the NFC West? Gotta think the Rams might have the best defense in the West. The offense will improve, no doubt we need more depth though.

by KSRamFan on Sep 20, 2010 8:48 PM CDT reply actions

No I didn't notice that.. of course we faced some sad offenses

VT and others how about this WR next week
At best the Rams WR corp should be Clayton, Gibson and Amedola/Gilyard in the slot/4th wide out(if we ever use a 4th WR)

Yea I know Vincent Jackson, but let’s act like Kronke has a brain first before a owner lockout. Can anyone please explain to me why Gibson is not even activated game day? A physical recv’r that cam jump. Corner of endzone pass with a accurate QB like Bradford. What is the downside? Shurmer surely believes in fade routes?

by Da Rookie on Sep 20, 2010 9:02 PM CDT reply actions

To be honest I have questioned that myself

Don’t be surprised if Gibson is in this week.. just a feeling

As always, great job pete.

Although, this past week really put me in the Get Rid Of Shurmur (GROS) contingency. Sam is lightyears ahead of where most rookies in his situation would be.

block! building kick! exploooooooosion!

Bradford - Clayton

You watch these 2 , it has been a short time spent together , but over the next couple months these 2 will be the most dangerous pair , they both come from the same place and will soon have chemistry that will move this team to the next level …. I do not watch much NFL but saw every game these guys played at OU and they will be dynamic …

thanks for everything… i really enjoy doing these as much as you enjoy watching!!

Is VT for Vermont rams fan or VT as in Virginia Tech student Rams fan or am completely clueless? By the way, absolutely love the site, thanks.

VT-great job again.

Quite a bit to chose from this week.
This play, the Fells catch where he did the splits, the 2nd touchdown, the Amendola catch before the 2nd TD after the body slam, etc.

Shame we did not have any healty TE’s in 2nd half to help offset the 8 man in the box.

PS-I do not like losing either but I have gotten to a point where if we are at least in the game, I am not so displeased. It is those “blowouts” I cannot even watch. We have been competitive so far so the few wins we get should taste that much sweeter :-)

by RBramfan on Sep 21, 2010 1:49 PM CDT reply actions

Yes there were a few to choose from

One thing that’s hard is my limited selection of camera angles so some plays I can’t break down… Thanks!
