Roster battles: Null vs. Lewis

Besides the 15 or so snaps that Sam Bradford will have to cement his grip on the week 1 starting job, the real story for the St. Louis Rams in tonight's preseason finale will be sorting out the depth chart.

We've prattled on quite enough about the various merits of players at contested spots like backup running back, third QB and cornerback depth. It's time to gauge the pulse of the nation with an unscientific poll...or even a series of them leading up to tonight's game.

Programming note: Game thread coming at 6 p.m. Central time, a hour before the game starts.

Our first battle is the third QB spot where Keith Null is trying to hold off Thaddeus Lewis, an undrafted upstart from Duke. Lewis has been sharper in preseason play, but Null did start four games last season. So who makes the cut?

I would guess Lewis will win this..

I liked what I saw

Normally I'd say Null based on his extra experience

But I don’t think either one would be snatched off the practice squad so I’m thinking Null will wind up clearing waivers and going there. I think whom would, (or wouldn’t clear waivers) is the tell-tale factor here.

Not impressed with Null

Even though Null started some games last season, I’m not liking what I see from him in the preseason. He has had some open recievers to throw to but he puts so much heat on the ball it’s making it difficult for our receivers and tight ends to reel them in. I have seen in previous posts how Null appears to have an attitude when his teammates are not making the plays. I have to admit, I did not notice this.

The one thing I did notice is Thaddeus Lewis’ athletiscm. It’s actually nice having a dual threat at QB that can keep the chains moving either with his arm or with his legs. I gotta admit, I’m not a Duke fan but if Lewis can make the team over Null he will be the first Blue Devil I ever root for. And that’s coming from a North Carolina Tar Heel fan! I agree, Lewis' legs are the difference

His accuracy has been a problem, but he has a gun for an arm and much better mobility than Null. Null offers a decent completion percentage and a year with the playbook, but that’s about all.

I voted Lewis,

I appreciate what Null did last year given the circumstances. But Thadd has look much better and has been impressive a bit.

The name's Rams, St. Louis Rams.

I VOTED NULL

He shines in the clutch it seems, especially final drives.
