Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

2010 NFL season is underway: Early game open thread

Quarterback Tim Tebow returns to Florida today with the Denver Broncos, taking on the team that was rumored to be ready to draft him if only to help sell tickets.

The St. Louis Rams and the rest of the NFC West all take the field later this afternoon in the second round of kickoff weekend games, starting at 3:15 p.m. CT.

The game thread for the Rams game will go up half an hour before kickoff.

There's plenty of action to get your first football Sunday started this afternoon though, exciting matchups like Detroit-Chicago or Cleveland-Tampa Bay.

Football season is here. Whew. We made it. Now, let's hope we make it though with a little more to be excited about than last year.

3k's note: As promised, here's the link to the annual.  And in case the broadcast team is boring you, check out yesterday's episode of Turf Show Radio, where we talk about...broadcast teams...

Football baby!!!

You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

The Broncos had Tebow as a WR on that last play, though he wasn’t involved. Interesting.

I'm interested to see how the bottom third of the NFL performs today

I’m hoping we don’t have a single-digit draft pick next year. Would give us some flexibility.

Inactives

Rams inactives are: third QB Lewis, WR Gibson, WR Curry, CB Murphy, TE Onobun, G Greco, DE Sims and DT Cudjo

Arizona inactives: WR Roberts, QB Skelton, CB Jefferson, RB Wells, CB McDonald, LB Obiozor, C Claxton and DT Watson.

Some interesting ones. Brandon Gibson, Jerome Murphy and Onobun? That’s odd.

I'm not too surprised

Gibson now at the bottom of the chart with Dom Curry, and Mark Clayton makes him a potential inactive. With four TEs, one’s going to have to sit. Murphy’s not quite fully healthy if I remember correctly. Greco and Cudjo are more surprising to me.

Ugh

I hope this is a mistake- no fendi? No gibson or curry??

by Go Rams!!! on Sep 12, 2010 1:56 PM CDT up reply actions

For those wondering why some players are inactive:

“15 minutes before a regulation NFL game, both teams must present an “Inactive” list of 8 players to the officials. That means of a team’s 53 man roster, only 45 may participate in the game itself. The lone exception is if the team has a 3rd string quarterback on the inactive list. There are separate rules for the 3rd string QB and how he may participate in a game, if at all.

The question then is, why have an inactive list? It’s an attempt by the NFL to create a competitive balance on game day. Due to the brutal nature of the sport, a team can carry players on its 53 man roster that may be too injured to play in that game, but not so injured that they need to be put on Injured Reserve and miss the rest of the season."
