The reason why I say that is because Kenneth Darby fits the description of Coach Spag's 4 Pillars. Darby is a good team mate, works as hard as anybody, and will do whatever it takes to win.
Darby make the team this year because how solid he is on special teams, how hard he hustles compared to anyone else, and the leadership qualities. That is exactly what Coach Spagnoulo is looking for.
Even though Darby is not very good, even though he got tackled by a ref, even though the entire offseason there was talk of a backup running back coming in (Brian Westbrook), even though Keith Toston or Chris Ogbonnaya looked better and younger, even though he is behind arguable one of the top three runners in the league, even though nobody knows who he is, Kenneth Darby gives it his all every play that he manages to get into. I thought Spagnoulo saw that, and that's why Ogbonnaya and Gado are gone and Darby is still here.
When I was watching some games from last year primarily when SJ39 wasn't 100%, Ken Darby was the hardest working man on the field. Darby could try to make something out of nothing. He was a change of pace guy compared to Jackson. If you really needed to get a first down, Darby would do everything to get it. There was at least 8 times Darby got a first down on a second effort or a dive. He tries to make it happen, and that's what Spags loves about him.
Darby might be the reason why Spags didn't get anybody, he maybe thought that no running back that would come here would work as hard as Ken. I could compare him to a Rudy or a Steve Tasker. Somebody who just wants to win.
This season, whenever I see Ken Darby come into the game: 1) I know I will see a great effort and 2) I will cheer him on. He is just one of those guys you root for. Maybe he can help get a win against the Cards.
