Rodger Saffold "Breakdown" WK 2

Hey guys! With the Rams offensive line intact last week, and with it performing very well, I thought I would break down the very first running play of the night, an 11 yard monster by one Steven "Beast" Jackson.

While the run was typical of SJAX who was dragging some defenders and running over a few more, there were a few factors involved that made this play a success.

One HUGE factor was rookie T Rodger Saffold. Looking at the tape, it left me feeling a bit "giddy" with excitement over this guy. I think you'll be as excited as I am after watching the breakdown.

As usual, the video isn't pro, but hope you enjoy it. (currently looking at a way to improve video quality y'all)

Keep them coming...

I love the break down. I am not that educated in the specifics of football, so watching these videos is very interesting.

good stuff VT

I could watch these all day.

there was a good run to the right side

where J. Smith came down inside and Karney made a very good trap block in space.

Barron would never have been able to

time a chip block like that.

Great stuff!

Just promise us that if you go and work for the Rams, you would keep bringing your interesting analysis videos from time to time! :)

Nice VT

Love the video and the breakdown. When you breakdown the OL/DL its best to use the End Zone cameras. With that angle you can really see what’s going on. I coach High school football in California (OL/LBs) and the only view I ask for is the End zone. You can see everything.

Thanks stango!

I’m rather limited on views, but will use those angles whenever I can! Thanks again…

Keep up the good work. I’m looking forward to your future clips.

Go Rams!

Super job VT...

Should also give credit to Bajema for sealing the outside, that was a pretty big hole.

I also noticed Goldberg got down field and had Gocong? blocked but Jackson ended up running into Goldberg which stopped the play, if Jackson could have cut it back to right, behind Goldberg, he would have just had Elam to beat for the TD.

Keep them coming.

Almost good job...

You need a condenser mic so you don’t sound like you’re in the back of the room. You need a video player that will play in slow motion like VLC. VLC also allows you to skip to the next frame by pressing “e” when paused. But, it doesn’t play in reverse as far as I know. Finally, download something like ManyCam, it’ll like you draw lines and circles like Madden.

Other than that, your video is awesome and I’d like to see more.

Good work.

I really liked what I saw from Saffold against the Browns. He still has a lot to work on, but he looked like he belonged on the field in Cleveland and was able to hold his own in there.

Yep

Go for it. It’s great to be able to keep up on the breakdowns outside of the game.

by Brawnwitch on Aug 24, 2010 3:30 PM CDT reply actions

Love it

Great Job! It would be awesome if you could keep these coming. Great job Saffold as well. Not that he doesn’t have alot to learn as does anyone coming into the NFL but give this kid props. He has potential and is getting a great start. Even week one I thought he was admirable for the work he did against Allen. Can’t wait to see him mature into the pro he is going to be!

Thanks, VT! Outstanding!

More plays detailing OL/DL plays, please! The network dorks hardly ever highlight that, and it’s 80% + of the game, IMO.

Breakdowns like this only help me figure out the game more. The improvements suggested above will only help you out.

Thanks, and please keep these coming!
Cheers!

Even if you can't make improvements

Keep them coming. By the way, did I miss it? Who’s breaking it down for us?

Totally bitchin

I like these because they get into football details you don’t get in regular shows. Sometimes they’ll break down film, but most of the time it’s for ahem higher profile teams.

I approve

These are fantastic. Like it was said above, toy around with VLC. I think it will help your analyzing immensely. +5 internet points.

ESPN never spends any time on the Rams...

…if VT doesn’t do the in-depth breakdown on plays like this, we’ll never get it! Keep’em coming VT. Excellent work!

by NachoD on Aug 25, 2010 5:24 PM CDT reply actions

I voted yes

But, will future breakdowns be more than just one play?

by heinzketchup on Aug 27, 2010 7:10 PM CDT reply actions

I may do a couple per week

.. my current technology limits me to one play at a time
