Preseason polling: who won't turn it around on offense?
Halfway through the preseason, and we already have some things looking better than last year at this point on offense. Still, there's plenty making us scratch our heads. So who do you think is going to get it going either before the regular season starts or at least early on? Who is just not cutting it? Who's just filling up a jersey or a job until we can find someone ready to step up? Hit it.

Shurmur is a fool, but we really need an established back-up more.
We looked great yesterday when Big Steve was in the game, but terrible when anybody else was in. I think Bradford will be fine and I love Donnie Avery. We definitely need to get rid of Shurmur. In 2008 our offense was really using Donnie Avery correctly, we did a good job of opening up the passing game with a team without much talent (just like right now). It seems that with Shurmur, the only time we open up the passing game is in garbage time when the back-ups are in the game.

I think 50% vote in just a couple hours speaks volumes for Shurmur
Now how can we get him to read what the fans are saying on TST lol,hey maybe K. Pane can pass it along to him ,
I voted King Sam
Why?
We know he is not getting cut.
The rb’s – may
Shurmer – less likely, but more of a chance to go bye bye than Sam.
Other – not so much other
Avery – not even worth talking about as a failure. Cut him!
The question was
Who is just not cutting it? Who’s just filling up a jersey or a job until we can find someone ready to step up?
a measured response
good points
You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.
picture caption is priceless
I would pay money to see that as a real caption in stltoday. Maybe Shurmur would get the point then….haha
My sig explains my reason for voting Shurmur
Shurmur, your career is in 3rd and long. Don't run a draw.
Onobun > Gates
LMAO I need to buy you a beer soon 3k

Looks like a close race between shurmur and running backs
Does anyone on here know of any running backs on the market that look like they are worth signing. When Jackson was in it made our offense look 5 times as good as they did when he was out. IMO Toston looked like the one with the highest ceiling but that is really not saying much going against the bottom of the Browns depth chart. I just haven’t heard any buzz about anyone else out there. Please comment back and let me know.
Perhaps without Jackson, we could exclusively run end-arounds with Amendola and Gilyard?

Didn't Parker used to be known
as “Fast Willie”? I understand that nickname doesn’t fit anymore. He’s lost his speed. I think the Redskins have discovered neither Parker nor Johnson is going to do much for them this year.
Things sure don’t look good for our backup RBs. Toston at least showed he could block for the QB and run a little. The other two looked really bad.
I can't find any updated FA lists
For example, they all still show Samkon Gado as a FA, but he signed with the Titans a couple of days ago.

I just made my first fanpost asking this same question
I found a guy names Kolby Smith who was cut from the Broncos earlier this month. He has an upside for seeing holes and using them well. What do you guys think of him?
all of the above
avery is like a ghost out there shurmur is allergic to downfield passing r backup running backs look like they have been just picked off the street n sam bradford will be retired in a couple of years unless the o line protects him. but other than that everything is swell.
r O-line couldnt block a toilet never mind r QB
i think ive made my point.
Rams 5-11 next year ill settle for that
A litle premature
Some seem to be forgetting that this was Bradford’s second game…as a rookie. He doesn’t know the offense that well and was playing with second team receivers. In practice, the rams don’t run that limited of an offense. The time for panic is yet to come.
The oline

The o-line was solid
Last night, not flawless, e. G. The penalties

Those are fair points for Bradford, the O-line and Shurmur
is there a devil’s advocate position to protect the WRs from criticism though? (Bear in mind, I didn’t get to watch the game)

Didn't see much of the starting WRs
That had to be somewhat intentional. How many games do you really think they wouldn’t be passing to Robinson, amendola, Avery etc?

They were targeted some, but
Very little. Not like they would be in the regular season though.

Interesting
Well, with just two preseason games to go, they should get more looks in general and with Bradford specifically, if Feeley’s thumb is a no go

Had to vote other because there are two deadly weaknesses:
(1) b/u RB’s Darby, Obog and Toast
(2) Pat Shurmur.
This combo could drag down the Saints, Steelers, NE, anybody.
The combo vote
Fair enough. Just wondering, why don’t you put the WRs in the tier of “deadly weakness” yet?

Yea I agree
WR have had little opprtunity
"The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall." - Vince Lombardi
WR's clearly make it a trio. My mistake.
At least we didn’t go after Boldin, Marshall, TO, etc. in the offseason. Maybe Ricky Proehl could be coaxed out of retirement??
Wanted Shurmur and backup RB's...but picked Avery
Why? Because we could have had DeSean Jackson!!!!!!
That pick haunts me daily.
Is Jackson good at running
Shurmur’s three yard patterns? We could have Jerry Rice in his prime and it wouldn’t matter with the calls Shurmur makes.
Jackson can break free on any given play - even screens
Can we say the same about Avery?
I won't see them play until Monday but Targets vs. Receptions looks fishy
Gilyard, Burton, Avery, Foster and Robinson were targeted 10 times but somehow couldn’t bring down a single ball. (Amendola was 1 for 1)
Bajema, Fells and Hoomanawanui were able to grab 7 balls of their 11 targets and lead the team in recieving.
I’m not sure if that has more to do with the delivery or reception but they need WRs to actually have the ball in their hands somehow.
On a brighter note
Has anyone looked at the preseason league leaders? You may notice that Josh Hull is the leader in tackles with 16 in two games. I know its not against first teamers, but he’s not a first teamer either, so I think he’ll make the team as JL’s backup. He’s supposed to be good on special teams too.

The backup running backs are simply brutal. Ogbonnaya is fine as a receiver, but doesn’t get it done as a runner – a pretty glaring weakness for a RB. Darby isn’t much better, and although Toston runs with more energy, he’s not quite adequate.
There should be better depth available once roster cuts get underway, at least.
LOL!!! Thank you for the comic relief. I sure needed it.
I think he’ll be getting a UFL opportunity in about 13 days.
To be honest TB's Freeman was a #1 pick I think Null is just as good lol
They are both big strong arm and over throw every one actually I might give Null the edge cause he is more durable
