BRADFORD SIGNS!!!!

This isn't a trick

Adam Schefter Tweets:

Filed to ESPN: Rams reached agreement w/ Sam Bradford on a six-year, $78 million deal with $86 mil max value that includes $50 million guaranteed

I don't get the dollars.  50 million guaranteed, 78 million, with 86 max value.  So I'm guessing the 78 million will be roster bonuses and the 86 million  will be performance bonuses.  Not sure but that seems to make sense.  To me at least.

Finally.  Ton of money, but hopefully it will be worth it.

We'll get our first taste of Sam tomorrow.

Actually, we only payed Bulger about 30-35 Mill if I'm not mistaken.

Since we released him after 3 seasons.

Don’t talk so quickly. I hope this works out amazingly, but he’s yet to step on the field.

"only paid Bulger $30-35" If Bradford is only an average QB, he'll be an order of magnitude better than that 3-headed monster we had at QB last year.

But, I do agree that he has to show something besides potential. The Rams have been burned alive by 1st rounders like Barron, Hill, Carriker, Long and even Smith. I certainly hope that Bradford is the real thing and can start immediately.

by RamChop on Jul 30, 2010 10:18 PM CDT up reply actions

Crap! I almost got it!

I was off by about 5 mill in each direction. My prediction on February 27th was 6 years, 75 Million (81 Million Max Out) with 45 Million Guaranteed.

I think I underestimated Tom Condon.

I think the pressure of making sure everything goes smoothly was a bigger reason.

I hate the media as much as anyone, but the Rams HAD to get this done ASAP. It’s not like we had any leverage. This kid is a class act A+ grade in pretty much everything. To sour the relationship with the Rams would have been a bad idea.

It’s all done, and the numbers are what we thought they’d be. Get to practice Sam! Sling ’Em Dead!

Its on the bottom line but no ones actually said it.
They just keep talking about Albert Haynesworth and Dez Bryant.

SBSB (Super Bowl Sam Bradford) will make sure they hear us loud and clear soon enough.

Still

The largest rookie contract in NFL history deserves some air time. I thought they’d be all over this. If everything wasn’t on a loop and played over and over 30 x a day they’d probably have it on there. Doesn’t really matter, I’m just happy to have it done.

can you update me on what Bret Farve is doing?

Maybe he is eating a doughnut, most likely glazed. I’m sure it will be in the ticker

Brett has a Superbowl ring and a couple of MVP seasons.

You rarely hear talk about money unless it’s someone who’s actually done something in the league.

Sam will soon. :D

And it becomes obvious that Bradford, Fendi, and Danario, are the next Aikman, Gates, and Moss.

when is it released?

I usually buy it every other year. I bought it last year, but this year Sam Bradford is making me go buy it once it comes out.

by ramsrule on Jul 30, 2010 9:40 PM CDT up reply actions

August 10th.

If you have the 360/PS3 you can download the demo between the Colts/Jets.

It looks great (as always). Still has some issues (as always). But I think it’s worth the buy. Plus, it’s a new-look Rams team. I’d say it’s worth it.

Bradford to Onobun!

by Infemous on Jul 31, 2010 6:13 AM CDT up reply actions

Is gameflow the thing where it basically tells you what to run on every play?

I definitely wouldn’t play with that. I occassionally like to run on 3rd and 15 out of a 4 WR set so they have 1 linebacker in and it usually gets the first with SJ who can just truck the safety that might get in his way. Although I usually use the Ravens.

So you won’t need Madden too long.

And I wasn’t going to buy it, but then the draft came and I definitely want the new Rams, like Sam and Fendi, and they online scouting feature looks pretty cool too.

NFL Network repoted that Favre hunted Armidillo with Brad Childress.

Part or all of the incentives in his contract are
Bradford must play either 35% of offensive plays as a rookie or 45% of any other contract year. He almost surely will, but worth noting.

Per Adam Schefter.

That’s 5.6 games worth right? For the rookie season?

I mean, check Manning’s GP/S stats. Every game of every season since day one.

I’d like to check out Bradford’s stats on NFL.com someday and say the same thing.

If Suh’s camp thinks they’re entitled to it, then we’ve got a Crabtree on our hands.

Crazy

Gotta hope he works out for you guys since no matter what he will get 50 million dollars.

Seeing contracts like this [and the one Eric Berry got] makes me hope that there will be a Rookie Salary Cap soon.

Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan [I have always lived in Arizona, dad is from Chicago].

I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad. And don't switch to whichever team wins the Super Bowl each year.

by JoeCB1991 on Jul 30, 2010 10:17 PM CDT reply actions

I hope its a similar type deal to Stafford's.

Lessens the risk
This article quote explains Stafford’s contract, not Bradford’s:

You have to remember that this is really a four-year contract. If, after four years, Stafford is terrible or mediocre, he’s going to get cut. The Lions aren’t going to pay big salaries on the final two years of the deal unless Stafford is a Pro Bowl-type player.

And, if Stafford is playing that well, the Lions will want to rip up the final two years of that deal anyway and sign him to a huge extension.

by Carneros on Jul 30, 2010 10:21 PM CDT reply actions

Take at the posts on ESPN

I have no idea why everyone is complaining about this deal…seriously who else would you like to see get that type of money, the owners? When I pay 200 dollars to go to a game, I hope that money is at least going in some part to the people I went to watch. Finally all this crap about how it’s an insult to the hardworking americans? Alright I’m about as liberal as it comes, but the last time I checked we lived in a captilist market. The market pays high premium for limited resources. Considering there is roughly only 10 players in the world that can play the position of QB at a very high level, it makes sense that a player would get paid this kind of money considering the demand. Now granted I do think the salaries are out of whack for rookies (the money would be better served going to the veterans) that’s not the case. This is no surprise stop bitching please.

by RamsFan7 on Jul 30, 2010 10:24 PM CDT reply actions

I concur, as most contract $ is not guaranteed, the only time players can cash in is as rookies or FA’s. They deserve to get the cash before their health is gone.

NFL clubs are worth over 1 Billion dollars each.

After the lockout, rookie pay scale and FA chances will be diminished and careers will be shorter due to the 18 game season.

Bradford is lucky to come out in 2010.

The sad part is St Louis is the team in the worst financial shape due to the inheritence issue and the high salaries just paid to Long, Carriker, Bradford, and Smith.

He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is

by WarWolf on Jul 31, 2010 1:00 PM CDT up reply actions

That is a ridiculous amount of money

for a player that has never played a down of pro ball. I know, I know it’s not just Bradford, I’m just saying. Wow!! I can’t possibly imagine that a fan like RamChop is ok with this too. Bradford better be as adverstised or better, if not, this pick WILL be disastrous for the franchise. As a Rams fan I’m hoping Bradford=P Manning.

I'd rather him be Tom Brady to be honest.

Hea done it with crap receivers for most of his career and he’s more of a killer IMO.

Say what you want about the guy’s pretty boy persona, but on the field, that ahole is a killer.

Not to mention the 3-1 advantage in SB wins. He also wasn’t ever notorious for choking like Peyton was until he won his SB and choked again last year. Hmm…

Yeah, I’d rather he have a Tom Brady career minus the freak knee injury.

Assuming Bradford plays 100 games over the next 6 years, just the guaranteed $50 million portion of his money would pay him:

$500,000 a game or $167,000 as an hourly wage.
