Rams and Bradford agree to "numbers and terms"

According to a report from Brian Stull at ESPN 101, the St. Louis Rams have agreed to the "numbers and terms" of a contract with first overall pick QB Sam Bradford. Everything but the fine print...

Stull believes that Bradford will be with the Rams for a 6 p.m. team meeting.

If the report is accurate, then Bradford will be practicing with the full squad tomorrow, though it's safe to assume he'll still be with the second unit, at least for now.

Well...

Its about da** time! Now sign Danario!

BTW...

For the folks who were writing to be patient about Bradford signing and that this is all business. As a fan, the time to start screaming about stuff like your first overall pick not being in camp is now, not 2-3 weeks into training camp.

If it wasn't done by tomorrow I'd be upset.

But it sounds like it should be.
Now I’m just going to be upset if we don’t sign Danario Alexander.

BTW

one day or a couple days means nothing in leu of a 10+ year career. Settle down and have some patience. Fan screaming means nothing to either side. The first couple days of camp are getting ID’s, food passes, and non football related oreintation. You have no idea how long it takes to iron out a 100+ page contract involving unions and guaranteed money.

If you love something, set it free. If it doesn't come back, find it and kill it.

This makes no sense...

IDs? Passes? Non footbal related orientation for a couple days? Dude, this is professional football, not going to summer camp or starting your freshmen year at the U. Bradford signs today and hopefully will get his uniform, locker assignment, and the room he will staying at during training camp. Tomorrow he’s in team meetings and begins his on the field training to eventually be our starting QB. His first 2 weeks of training camp is critical to him having a 10 year career in the NFL. The list of 1st rounders that don’t reach their potential or that become draft busts have an awful lot to do with how long they hold out because of their rookie contract. Bradford was drafted in late April, as a fan I think waiting over 4 months for our 1st round pick to sign was more than patient, especially when the opportunity was there to sign him in April days before the draft started. Its not like he’s the first drafted athlete in history, contracts can and have been worked out quickly.

I agree with pretty much everything you just said

but I’d also point out that the chance to take pretty much 100% of the snaps in practice without having Null and Feeley around eating into those snaps is a pretty valuable chance that has all but slipped away.

Life is tough, but it's tougher if you're stupid.

Feeley was there and Null was too I think

Someone had to play QB. I think they still probably would have if Sam was there.

are you sure?

maybe today, but they weren’t yesterday. I thought i heard Feeley and Null wouldn’t be there until Saturday.

Btw, there are other rookie Qbs on the roster.

Life is tough, but it's tougher if you're stupid.

All three "signed" QB's were there yesterday including Thaddeus Lewis.

Rookies, QB’s and selected vets (injured at end of year or during offseason) have been there since Wednesday night.

I'm just going by what D'Marco said on the radio

and he said neither Null nor Feeley would be on the field until Saturday.

If I’m wrong, I blame D’Marco.

Charles Robinson of Yahoo is saying

the two sides aren’t even close

Per fas et nefas - Latin translation="By Any Means Necessary"

by Habte E on Jul 30, 2010 1:38 PM CDT reply actions

He then wrote later:
Sounds like the Rams still believe Sam Bradford will get done today. This was as of a few hours ago

And then later:

Any reports that the Rams have agreed to terms with Sam Bradford are not correct. As of right now, there has been no agreement on anything

So he keeps contradicting himself. I don’t know what to think. I think there may still be a lot of pages to write, but the core of the contract is agreed upon.

No more news

Haven’t heard anything else from any other source.

I wonder if this was pre-mature?

by JTPirate on Jul 30, 2010 2:38 PM CDT reply actions

About 5 minutes ago from Stully
While check-in continues for the veterans arriving today, I’ve spoken to some sources close to the situation and they’ve informed me that Sam Bradford’s welcome packet has been moved to the side for now.
This appears to put into jeopardy his attendance at the 6pm team meeting today. Will share the latest coming up on The Fast Lane at 4:20pm…

We may have to wait longer for this to play out :-(

by RBramfan on Jul 30, 2010 3:40 PM CDT up reply actions

this is such mickey mouse garbage...

what’s the hold up? Are we arguing over $46M or $47.5M guaranteed money here?

by hockeyno93 on Jul 30, 2010 3:43 PM CDT up reply actions

did Tebow screw it up for us?

His contract was significantly exponential in percentage from last year’s 25th pick. Granted he’s a QB, which is ‘premium pay’.

Since he was the only other 1st round QB taken, the increase might have made Condon think he could squeeze even more out of us.

block! building kick! exploooooooosion!

by mooseknuckles41 on Jul 30, 2010 3:13 PM CDT reply actions

I don't think so

He did have over a 59% increase in max money over Vontae Davis, but he also had a 9% decrease from Josh Freeman, who was taken 9 picks earlier in the previous year. So I think it was a pretty normal contract.
Btw, if Bradford got the same 59% increase in max salary over Stafford as Tebow did over Davis, Bradford’s max money would be over $178 million.
We need to get this deal done today!

good to know.

nice math. i’d forgotten about Freeman.

by mooseknuckles41 on Jul 30, 2010 3:54 PM CDT up reply actions

And of course as I look at my comment

My math is wrong. Bradford would be making 101 million not 178 million. I flipped a fraction. Everything else is correct.

YES!

Glad to see Sam sign. Now it’s Saffold turn and the pieces are starting to fall into place.

Offer is around $72 mil

Looks like he will not be there today, hopefully it gets done tonight, Somewhere between 72 – 80 mil over 6 years. I think this bull land squarely on the shoulders of Demoff and Devaney. They knew all along what was going to be asked and where they stood months ago. This should have been done months ago. Ownership in flux is no excuse. Look at basebals Texas Rangers who are going through bankruptcy proceedings and being auctioned off, they go freakin wild. This regime needs to have the attitude of we are going to win at all cost and turn this thing around…….

by Rambling_Rams on Jul 30, 2010 4:27 PM CDT reply actions

The Rangers are in bancruptcy

And are still being used as a good example? Damn.

lol

I never said it was a good example,

by Rambling_Rams on Jul 30, 2010 5:25 PM CDT up reply actions

This is crazy

I guess the offer the Rams made is basically the same exact terms that Stafford got last year, 6 yrs for 72 mil. I may not have been a math major but for the life of me, why would he even consider the same contract as last years guy when everybody in football knew that it would take roughly 20% more at the min. I venture to say that Condon is thinking around 90 mil min. If this is the case then this may take a while.

by Rambling_Rams on Jul 30, 2010 8:44 PM CDT reply actions

You know what

i won’t believe it when he does sign now. I got no excuse. Thats twice for me.
