Sam Bradford, what's in a name?
St. Louis Rams fans, we need your help.
As you may have heard, the Rams have a new QB, Sam Bradford. Whether or not Bradford will start the season under center remains to be seen, though ESPN's John Clayton reports that Bradford showed enough at the team's rookie minicamp last week that he should be able to compete with AJ Feeley and Keith Null for the starting job during training camp. I should hope. It stands to reason that a QB worthy of the first overall pick has the ability to beat out a career backup and a sixth round pick. More on that later though.
Now, we need to come up with a nickname for young Bradford. After all, with a $50 million contract and nothing less than the hopes of a franchise on your shoulders you deserve a fitting nickname.
With that, I ask you to submit your proposals in the comments. We'll take the best five and have a vote to finalize it. By the time the Rams start their next round of minicamp, May 13, we'll roll out a new nick name for the new kid on the QB tree.
Have at it.

S.A.M. is awesome

Awesome nonetheless.
Call me dumb...
but I didn’t get “Samchise” Is it supposed to be like franchise? Maybe I would like it if I understood where it is coming from.

I didn’t know that’s what they call Sanchez. I guess I’d like him to have something all his own, not a Slingin’ …and now thats how I’d have to feel about a ‘chize, if it’s taken.
I wasnt aware that was marks nickname either...the only nickname I heard for him was dirty sanchez haha
which is much better imo
I was wondering when someone would say it
Never heard of the Sanchize.
The House of Spears reigns supreme
I've heard it on sportscenter
I still like Samchize.
I sure hope Bradford is leaps and bounds better than Mark Sanchez.
He reminds me of Jay Schroeder only worse.
I can take a beating ... I'm a Rams fan.
Well, it is a bit questionable at this point ...
… but how about Sam Tough?
I can take a beating ... I'm a Rams fan.
Bradford....
How about…. Samborghini? Since he’s gonna be paid $50 million!
I like
Sam “The Surgeon” Bradford – He slices and dices defenses baby!
Sam reads David and Goliath before every game...
Samson

Ram Bradford
is what I’ve been referring to him as for the past two+ months. Anything “Sammy” related reminds me of Baugh.
Sam "The Shoulder" Bradford
After all, that is what we’re concerned about.
THIS year's the year. I hope....
No one mentioned SamRam?

I will put it out there
I was told this name was taken but I still like it…‘Slingin Sam’ Although Sam “The Surgeon” kind of caught my attention. I still like ‘Slingin Sam’.
I just got one for fendi
Fendi “put it” onobun
Per fas et nefas - Latin translation="By Any Means Necessary"
SAMKON BRADO?!
Sammy the Sicko, Samwell, Sick A** Sammy, “Laser”
That did not
appear to be the way it’s reported. McCoy said all kinds of positive things about Sam. He said he should be the #1 pick. The reports made it seem like King Sam was a compliment. Do you know something we don’t?
I heard him say it in some video ... I can't remember which but it wasn't an interview, he was just walking around talking)
I got the impression he was annoyed that Bradford was getting so much attention.
When asked, McCoy said the one QB he was most looking forward to hitting in the NFL is Sam Bradford because he was never allowed to so much as look at him funny in college.
I can take a beating ... I'm a Rams fan.
It's premature to name a player that hasn't played in a game yet.
Let him earn his nickname from something he actually does on the field. If he’s a great one there will be plenty of names to give him. No one annointed Manning, Namath, Warner, Elway, Brady, etc with any catchy nicknames, not at least until they proved themselves on the field. I’m from Missouri, show me (on the field) first before you get a nickname.
True I have sad that all along but more then to prove himself it will show his style of play
I think from his playing style we would have a more accuret nick name for Sam.But if I have to pick one now , let me think
But then we'd have nothing to talk about
Baseball season is back - Go Halos!
That's why I'm for King Sam.
He already earned it in college, therefore I think it should be his default nickname until he earns a new one or lives up to this one. And if he doesn’t, it’ll still fit in an ironic way.
G.McCoy Bradfords team mate has been calling him King Sam for a wyle now
I have been calling him King Sam for a month before the draft, im sticking with that because he is King Sam
idk
there is King Felix for the M’s, I’m sure other royalties.
but since McCoy called him that, I guess
"Twin-headed infinite swirling vortex of grotesque suckitude known as Tony Clark and Eric Byrnes"
Should be King Fister the way things are playing out
That dude is on fire.
If only the Mariners could actually hit the ball. They’d sweep the series.

You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

This isn't mine, I saw it on some guy's sign at the NFL Draft.
Iron Sam
I am Iron Sam!
He has a strong mind,
He is totally not blind.
He can stand real tall,
When he's hit he knows to fall.
I like it too but....
We will see how “Iron” he is once he gets hit a couple of times. It is inevitable. So I would hold of on the Iron part but I guess you could say that about any nickname.

Wham Bam thank you Sam
I think whatever he has from OU should just continue – King Sam kinda fits since he is going to have a king’s ransom and fame and glory.
Hopefully, it works out well and I can eat crow.
How about....
the cowboy or cowboy? He’s from the area… wearin’ Aikman’s #…. “The cowboy drops back”…. think it could work
Uhhh.....No
Baseball season is back - Go Halos!
I would think
that would be calling him Sam “The Raider”, Sam “The Giant”, or Sam “The Dolphin” lol you get my picture.

samchisee
same and sanchez lol.
sam + greatest show on turf= sams turf show?
I don't think Samchise makes sense...
…seeing as Sanchez owns “Sanchize.” It just makes more sense because his name has an “n.”
I’d probably opt for King Sam, but Bradford said he hates it in some interview I read. I’ll get a link if you need me to.

interesting
someeone above said McCoy gave it to him in a derogatory way. That’d suck if that was true and he did hate it and it stuck anyway. Unless he wins a SB before McCoy, then it’d be kinda funny.

coach i dont know what you mean? McCoy said on TV that he gave him
the nickname king sam because he thinks Sam Bradford is the best QB I herd G.McCoy say that during a TV interview,so who said otherwise?
I just went back up the list and read every ones post,i dont see any one say
that McCoy gave it to him in a derogatory way , coach I think you miss understood
Trojan Ram?
May I request link sauce, please?

Smooth Sam
It really is too early to try assigning a nickname to him until he actually plays for awhile.
Easy....
For me it will ALWAYS be ‘GREG BRADY’ Love the kid…don’t get me wrong…don’t flame me here. It is what it is.
Sam Bradford
At $50,000,000 and the hopes of a franchise resting upon his capable shoulders Sam’s nickname has to be The Bradford Mint.

solid
shouldn’t be long before quarters with his face are going for $20

Sam and Stoops
Bob Stoops called him The Big Easy (because everything comes so easy to him; scratch golfer, great hoops player, and not a shabby QB either.) Lol. With his repuatation for taking snaps 7 yards deep (albeit from folks who really did not watch much OU football) there is Shotgun Sam.
Cool Hand Sam
Cool hand Luke was a very chilled dude never let people push him down and when they did he got right back up.
Not to be confused with
The Inseminator ( Rothlesloser) or the Fatnlazinator ( Jamarcus)

Samchise
When I had originally seen this nickname, I thought it was referring to Sam’s Native American heritage, and the Apache chief Cochise.
Names
I like the idea of him “showing” his stuff on the field first. But, If I had to pick one now Id say Sammy “Show Me” Bradford.
ESPN’s Brian Stull reported Gerald McCoy tagged Brandford with King Sam as mentioned many times above. Now whether or not that sticks I have no idea.
I kinda like Slingin’ Sam the Ram… or, just Slingin’ Sam… or how about ‘Gunner’ Sam or Missle-Man Sam?
I’ll tell ya one thing, if he’s a complete flop we can all call him Sam the Lamb but personally, I don’t think that’s ever going to happen.
Go Rams!
"We can't run. We can't pass. We can't stop the run. We can't stop the pass. We can't kick. Other than that, we're just not a very good football team right now." --- Bruce Coslett, New York Jets Head Coach circa 1990s
Baby Face
cause he looks like he’s 8. King Sam or the Smooth Operator come to mind for me cause he’s got that kinda chill feel to him. If he turns out to have a slingers mentality though, Slingin’ Sammy gets my vote.
Julio Jones for Rams 2011
Yeah, he looks like my 12 year old son.
Maybe we can just call him ‘The Kid.’
I can take a beating ... I'm a Rams fan.
Plain ol Sammy B. or even wait for it.... SamPayne!
like champagne and a big thumbs up for Kevin P.
I also like Baby Face from kinzav29
