Some Rams fans I've heard from are a little nervous about losing Barron because they think the team will lack quality depth at tackle without him. Barron is probably a frustrating player to coach because he commits so many penalties and doesn't consistently play to his potential. Sometimes it's more comforting for a staff to know it can count on a less-talented player -- Adam Goldberg comes to mind -- that to wonder what a more-talented player might do on a specific play.

It is as if Sando reads our comments..
I think he is paraphrasing coach connors
If you love something, set it free. If it doesn't come back, find it and kill it.
So that is our answer...
lets take comfort in having goldberg as a backup because we know he is “less-talented”. I think that was the whole argument of coach connors and I have to say I agree with him. Not necessarily did I like Barron, but what are we going to do to replace him…have a “less-talented” player start instead. hmm…
I think the point is
With a less talented but more consistent player you can account for his weaknesses. With a more talented but less consistent player you just never know what you are going to get. One play he blocks like a demon, the very next play the same DE breezes past him.

Yes
Exactly. With Goldberg, you know when you have to give him help bocking. But with Barron? Which plays against Dwight Freeney, ect. will he take off? Barron had a far higher ceiling but he also added a bad variable to the equation, namely how well will he TRY to excute this play?
I think the idea is that Saffold will be better
If you love something, set it free. If it doesn't come back, find it and kill it.
I'm sure one day that will be true
might be a little premature to think that’s the case in 2010

Hell Yes!
Safold will be better.
Smith IS better. (just really didn’t have the chance to prove it).
…anyone that stops our offense from going in the opposite direction is better.
Maybe but that is not the only issue
I don’t think its just a mater of who is better Barron or Saffold the depth in OT has now changed and not for the better, that is also a concern
We got a real potential LB for a pretend OT.
Barron at 6’7" and 300+ may play like a man possessed for the Cowboys, but he never did for the Rams. Smith, Brown, Fraley, Goldberg, Bell, Setts and Saffold, with a little help blocking from Karney and our new TE, should do fine. And, while Carpenter was disappointing for the ‘boys, he’ll probably easily start for the Rams. After all, whose he gotta beat out; Vobora, Diggs? The Cowboys are an order of magnitude deeper in talent than we are – especially with the potential loss of Superman Jackson.
