Rams have had a great draft so far.
I’m loving all of this that we’re doing.
I am Iron Sam!
He has a strong mind,
He is totally not blind.
He can stand real tall,
When he's hit he knows to fall.
Is anybody else surprised
That we haven’t made one trade yet?
by TransplantedRamsFan on Apr 24, 2010 9:32 AM CDT reply actions
yeah
i thought someone would have peeked someones interest enough to trade with us. But hey if no ones offering great value then i guess we ain’t dealing

Wow. Titans practically gave Lindale White away.
What’s up with that?
by TransplantedRamsFan on Apr 24, 2010 9:33 AM CDT reply actions
I've always hated him.
Ever since he didn’t get a first down against Texas in that national championship game, I’ve blamed him for the fact that those god damn Texas Longhorns won the game.
I am Iron Sam!
He has a strong mind,
He is totally not blind.
He can stand real tall,
When he's hit he knows to fall.
Any else notice
that Donnie Jones announced the Gilyard pick for us, love to see the punter get into the action
At the draft, on the podium like Marino and Brown and others did last night?
Why doesn’t ESPN show that? I don’t have NFL network so I’m forced to watch Mel Kiper and Todd McShay debate guys from 3 rounds ago, and they only show you on the bottomline when a pick is announced.
I am Iron Sam!
He has a strong mind,
He is totally not blind.
He can stand real tall,
When he's hit he knows to fall.
Their going
around to the tables and having the guys their announce the picks, apparently Donnie Jones is the Rams rep for the draft
CURSE YOU ESPN!
I want to see my punter getting up there, not Mr. Big Head debating with Squirrel Head McShay.
Seriously:

I am Iron Sam!
He has a strong mind,
He is totally not blind.
He can stand real tall,
When he's hit he knows to fall.
Raiders select Bruce Campbell
about time, only 3 rounds later than thought
It's a mistake.
The Seahawks got that pick in a trade for LenDale White with Tennessee.
I am Iron Sam!
He has a strong mind,
He is totally not blind.
He can stand real tall,
When he's hit he knows to fall.
Damnit, that guy isn't hatable at all.
D-
I am Iron Sam!
He has a strong mind,
He is totally not blind.
He can stand real tall,
When he's hit he knows to fall.
I was hoping to pick him up with one of our
5th round picks, would have been a nice compliment to SJ
It’s funny that Oakland took Campbell and Ford today. Maybe they didn’t said to Al that the draft was Thursday so he think we’re in the first round
Loads left
Really, really deep at RB this year.
Yea I like him too
He’s not a complement to Jackson but he can still be effective splitting time with him. He looked the best at the Senior Bowl.
I am not a fan of Blount.
He’s a sore loser, has a temper, and is not somebody I want on my team. We’re supposed to be getting players with good character, and Blount is the opposite of that.
I am Iron Sam!
He has a strong mind,
He is totally not blind.
He can stand real tall,
When he's hit he knows to fall.
So who's still available?

Philly has 3 of 5 coming up.
I could see them trading at one of those spots.

Most guys that are
21, 22 are going to be immature. You see that all the time with regard to NFL players and it usually pertains to behavior issues. They’ll get caught with a gun and some cocaine – and people will say he’s immature. That’s not how I use it.
I wish they’d tell us the issue identified rather than blanket statements like : X is immature.
Damnit, I wanted that guy.
Wisconsin Tight End gone.
I am Iron Sam!
He has a strong mind,
He is totally not blind.

Weird mine hasn't updated anything from the 4th round
No matter how many times I hit refresh. Thanks for the yahoo link phxsuns.
I think if you make it to the Super Bowl
you shouldn’t pick until the bottom of the 2nd round.

you can get information just as good for free if you know where to look.
Al Woods to the Saints
DT from LSU. I don’t a DT from LSU cough Claude Wroten cough
Steve Nash plays D!!
Is Muckleroy still available?
But dammit, we need an RB.

Dwyer and Dixon
available at RB.
But so is OLB Dekota Watson.
Mike Kafka from Yahoo's draft tracker
National Football Post: A tall, good looking athlete who has the ability to move around the pocket and create with his legs. Showcases only average arm strength, but gets the ball out of his hands quickly.
Good looking? They don’t have anything better to say about him?
Steve Nash plays D!!
Why bother now?
RB and TE in the 5th to continue to justify the QB pick #1, and then ask Spags to chuck some magic dust over the 7th round picks
Predict the pick?
I’m thinking Roddrick Muckleroy
Don't know if this vid was posted or not

Anyone else worried
the way that everyone else seems to be stacking up on depth and we still have a mountain of essential needs to find?
Gilyard? Really?
Who’s he going to start over?
What a stupid pick.
Yes, I actually wore a watermelon on my head during the Rams SuperBowl victory in 2000.
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
how the fuck did they draft muckelroy one pick before us fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
We don't need a blocking TE
someone who has speed and can catch. We really are worried about anyone laying a finger on SB8
Sorry
we don’t need a bocking TE as much as we need a receiving one
Can we get some D?
Or maybe that backup runningback we’re supposed to grab?

I like the pick
And now I think we’re going for a D-linemen altought I’ve been thinking about it since round 2
He is tall, big, and strong.
At least that’s something.

According to Mel Kiper's big board
1. Dorin Dickerson PITT
2. Anthony McCoy USC
3. Andrew Quarless PSU
Steve Nash plays D!!
I was thinking that too.
Another way to sure up the protection.

I was able to warm up to Gilyard but I don't think I can warm up to this one
We need a receiving TE and Dickerson was on the board
i was just making a joke
a bad one. Should’ve been McMichael was our “recieving” tight end
Steve Nash plays D!!
I'm pretty sure
the coaches and scout’s know more about this guy than we do. The Rams are not always going to pick someone Mel Kiper and ESPN like. None of the other teams are, either.
We haven't addressed the DL or OLB position
Unbelievable … unacceptable

Yeah, let's go get somebody defensive with those.
We’ve got 5 picks left, let’s use 3 on defense and 2 on offense (preferably Danario Alexander and a back-up running back).
I am Iron Sam!
He has a strong mind,
He is totally not blind.
He can stand real tall,

If we get Danario Alexander then will have him, Avery, Robinson, Gibson, Gilyard, Amendola, Foster, and Burton. I think I’d rather just take another position at that point and either hope he goes undrafted or maybe we take with our last pick if I had to choose one.

by gingerredboy on Apr 24, 2010 11:18 AM CDT up reply actions
Yeah
Need: DE, OLB, DT, RB -
All higher priority than WR at this point. Alexander is a nice player but I think you have to pick guys that have the best chance of improving the team and contributing. Of course – anyone that makes the team this late is a good pick (assuming they deserve it).
Lots of special teams filler this late. If you find a guy that can be a starter you’ve got yourself a steal.
All also higher priority
than blocking TE and CB.
We’ll see what the next 6 picks bring. Bound to be starters in the 6th and 7th round to address our piss poor run and pass defense.
So now we actually did get an additional pick for Carriker
We moved up 14 spots and added a 6th rounder.
Must not have loved anybody at that spot.
So we pick up another pick. Not a bad move.

Cam Thomas or Anthony Dixon
I would also say Dorin Dickerson or Anthony McCoy but we already have Hoo-man

Good old Brain
I wouldn’t mind that short term but we’ll need a longterm solution either this year or next still.
Brian Westbrook? Will he last 3 plays?
UGH. I’m happy with the draft, but the biggest disappointment thus far is not finding a true backup RB. I am sick and tired of Steven getting beaten to a pulp and seeing this before the game:

Really not cool Rams.
And just as I type this, Leon Washington to Seattle. Wtf.

WTF
I wake up to see up use the 1st fourth rounder on a WR. Are you F___ing kidding me. Who’s spot is Gilyard going to take? Are you telling me that you wasted our 5th round pick last year, Devaney Why are we wasting a 4th round pick on depth to the WR spot when that is all we already have?
Why not add depth to a position that is in desperate need of it? Everson Griffen?
then our 5th we pick up a TE, not even one that will be a receiving threat. Not one that will make Bradfords life easier.
I am extremely disappointed in this draft….Where the hell is our future LB, or DE??
Griffen takes plays off
Spags being a Defensive Coach is probably going to draft a lower level pick on DE and LB and coach them up to being starters.

They said Gilyard
was by far the highest player on their board.
He can also help in the return game. Lots of 5th round picks don’t pan out. There are only so many guys that become NFL starters.
I think you’re overreacting. Let’s watch them play at the NFL level before we confidently denounce picks.
You're right. Our defense is fine. :/

Gilyard is a great pick.
He’s an offensive playmaker, a weapon that Bradford can throw to, and a WR corps of Avery, Robinson, and Gilyard is looking great, right now. And he’s a great return man. I agree that the TE pick sucked, but whatever. Also, Everson Griffen is somebody you don’t want on your team. He doesn’t try hard, and he doesn’t want to win.

Rebuilding “process”. As long as we fill these needs by next year, we’re fine. Not every need needs to be addressed this year.
No Kidding
I’m with you- I actually like our draft so far, with the exception of the TE pick in the 5th.
I only mocked him there because I knew many of us wanted a QB and I wasn't going to pick Bradford. clausen is the better QB. Time will show that.

Adios Fans, enjoyed the chatter
Got tee time in an hour. Live in 9er territory north of Sacramento and have to attempt to justify why Bradford over Suh. I did a lot of teasing of Smith over Rogers.
Mike Mayock said : 132 — Rams — TE Michael Hoomanawanui
Nicknamed “oh-oh”, he’s an inline blocking specialist at 6-3 1/2, 264. The Rams desperately need TE depth, and I think they could use a verticle pass threat too. Oh-Oh is a better blocker than receiver, and it wouldn’t surprise me if the Rams came back and look for a verticle TE later.
Interesting tought don’t you think

Steve Nash plays D!!
NFL.com
Davis was a two-year starter with solid production in college. He has a good combination of size, strength and athleticism for the position. He is a tough, hardnosed player with power to hold the point versus the run as well as the ability to push the pocket. He has good first-step quickness to gain leverage but isn’t a natural reactor as plays unfold. Davis runs well but lacks lateral quickness and agility in space. He is an inconsistent tackler who has natural pop but doesn’t always break down in the open field. Davis has tools to build on but lacks great instincts and likely will take time to develop.
Good pick, here.

another scouting report
A two-year starter at Louisiana-Lafayette, Davis recorded 22 tackles, 4.5 for a loss, three sacks and an interception this past year. Davis was invited to the Scouting Combine and performed well in front of scouts; he ran a 4.84 in the 40 and benched 225 pounds 28 times. Davis didn’t participate in the vertical jump at the Combine, but he showcased his hops at his Pro Day on March 16th and posted a 34.5-inch vertical. At his Pro Day, Davis pulled up with a left hamstring injury, but showed his toughness and continued to workout.

Agreed but what if they could do-
Some new variation of either would be cool. What if they could pull the old blue & whites from the sixties! Even as an alternate those would be bad!!
I'd love for us to just rotate 3 color schemes.
Wear the current unis for 4 games at home, 4 on the road. For 2 games at home and 2 on the road, where the 90’s jerseys, and go back to the old blue and white for 4 more games.

To protect Bradford
and to create competition. Fendi more than Dickerson since we’re going for athleticism/size combo. He’s big and he’s fast. His hands and head (knowledge of the game) are the only question marks, albeit they are two huge question marks.
why two TEs
its makes no sense…. especially when we have actuall needs other than TE as well

Yea I know it doesn't
But I’m just trying to get in their heads. They definitely have some players they really want and and they are not hesitating in getting some of those guys. That pick was turned in in like 15 seconds.
i mean.... here's how it probably went
they got Hoomawhatishisname… then Fendi went on board and they were surprised he was available and HAD to take him

i am not in that mindset
i don’t think they deserve the “i trust the FO to do what they do” quite yet
i mean, don’t go bashing them either, but I will wait to see what comes out of this draft and previous drafts before giving him that
benefit of the doubt however he is due for this and next year

The last few picks I have questioned for about 5 minutes
Then I say to myself to have trust in them because they probably know what they are doing.
My bad, 5 TE's on the roster
I know we want to protect our QB, but Hoom’ has an injury history, from what I read on him he was inured every year in college. I see the wholes we need filled and this seems like a stretch to me. Oh well, we’ll see how this works out for us.
Fendi, I like this pick; yes a project, but I bet he starts into the rotation sooner than later.
Who's the fifth TE?
Fells, Bajema, Hoom, and Fendi and who else? McMichael and Fine aren’t on the team.
This late in the draft you don't draft for need at all.
You take your favorite projects. These guys are likely not going to be starters this year so you don’t need to till your biggest needs with these picks.
From Walter football
170. Fendi Onobun, TE, Houston
Fendi Onobun has no experience playing football; he caught two passes last year. He played on Arizona’s basketball team for four years. But his Pro Day numbers were off the charts (6-6, 252, 4.45 40, 37.5 vertical). This is a boom-or-bust pick – a nice move in Round 6. (Pick Grade: B)
never when bradford busts this year we will need a qb to step in and save our franchise that man will be Case Keenum
Exactly
At this point if we miss It’s not exactly gonna set us back but if he hits then we suddenly have a massive offensive plus on our hands

everyone who hates that pick needs to talk to the chargers fans who hated
when they picked antonio gates who didnt play football in college either. basketball players are tremendous athletes… lebron james anybody?
We should get Dexter Davis, OLB out of ASU
strengths: good build at 6’1, 240, good core strength, reliable short area tackler, speed rusher, excellent pass rush skills,
weaknesses: not great against the run or in coverage
weaknesses are bad, but its the 6th round so he’s the best we can get

Strengths
Long, lean, and mean, with lots of upside. A true game changer at the DII level who can block a kick or force a fumble. Closes well to the QB. Fearsome pass rusher in college.
Weaknesses
Undisciplined and will need loads of technique work. LOC issues. Must get bigger and stronger, and work on his footwork.

Priority UDFA or 7th round flyer….

scouting report
George has been the Bulls’ most productive defender over the past four seasons. He’s quick off the edge and has shown bursts of speed to close in on the football. He is a disruptive player who can penetrate the line of scrimmage as a run defender and pressure the quarterback. George can bend and close to the passer with great agility and balance and pursue from the backside to chase ball carriers. He possesses deceptive strength to collapse the pocket off the edge but is inconsistent holding the point vs. the run. George uses his hands well to leverage blockers and separate to the ball. His instincts, athleticism and motor make him and undersized end that should contribute as a pass rusher and on coverage units (special teams) as a rookie.

Wow, this guy sounds f'ing awesome.
Also, from CBS:
PRO POTENTIAL: DE George Selvie got a lot of attention from opposing blockers in the last two years, so his statistics were not as gaudy as they were in his sophomore season, when he had 14.5 sacks. But he is still considered a top-10 prospect at his position.

he likes edge rusher and now he got plenty.
Looks like we're not doing anything to help our best players on each side of the ball though
No LB help for JL, and no RB help for SJ. We did a lot to help out Bradford though.

226. George Selvie, DE, South Florida
I love this pick. George Selvie had an incredible sophomore season and was then pegged as a first-round prospect. However, he was double-teamed on almost every play the past two years and just wasn’t able to produce. Selvie should have gone off the board in Rounds 4-5. (Pick Grade: A)
Steve Nash plays D!!
I almost gave up on him going to the Rams

I think everybody here knows who I want as a pick. And I found something on STLToday.com that helps my case.
From comments on this story:
OK, Last thread about why the Rams should draft Danario Alexander. Look at what he did in his last 5 games, all against Big 12 Teams.
@ Oklahoma St. (9 catches 180 yds 1 TD) (Long 73)
@ Colorado (8 Catches 123 Yds 2 Tds) (Long 84)
@ Kansas St. (10 Catches 200 Yds 3 Tds) (Long 80)
Iowa St. (11 Catches 173 Yds 1 TD) (Long 63)
@ Kansas (15 Catches 233 Yds 1 TD) (Long 68)
"Bradford snaps it from the Rams 30…Drops back he’s looking deep, airs it out down the sideline…. Alexander’s got it!!! 40…30… 20…10…Touchdown Rams!!!"
If we can take a chance on Bradford who barely played last year because of injury, surely we should take a chance on a player who DID play and played exceptional… Plus he’s battled back from each of this 3 knee surgeries, coming back stronger each time.

A tough, disciplined middle linebacker who does a good job finding the ball inside, Hull takes prosper angles toward the ball carrier. He’s a physical wrap-up tackler who’s at his best in tight areas but consistently is able to get his man to the ground. He knows how to fill run lanes inside and is quick to diagnose his run/pass keys. A limited, stiffer athlete who lacks ideal range in pursuit, Hull struggles to consistently keep himself clean when making his way down the line. He doesn’t exhibit the same type of power once blockers get into his frame and can be washed away from the ball. The more space he’s in, the less comfortable/effective he plays. He isn’t fluid vs. the pass and relies on his instincts to get a good jump on the ball in order to make his way toward the play. A blue-collar guy who can make his way onto an NFL roster as a two-down player and special teams guy, Hull will struggle whenever he’s asked to play in space.
