2010 NFL Draft: Round 1 open thread part two
Holy trades Batman! The first round has had all kinds of surprises so far. Is Jacksonville's pick the biggest surprise?
What about Ryan Matthews getting picked 12th overall?
I'm starting a new R1 open thread to keep things manageable for people. Jump into the Sam Bradford discussion over here.

Watching on ESPN
did anyone interview Bradford? I didn’t see it.
I was wondering the same thing
man im excited about this pick, finally the rams get flashy
he didnt say much
just that “im so grateful to be picked” crap everyone says
Per fas et nefas - Latin translation="By Any Means Necessary"
i dont know if im the only one
but he didnt look too thrilled about being picked by the rams. Or maybe thats just how he is
Sam Bradford
lol had to stir it up
im sure hes glad
Sam Bradford
he looked happy on the phone
might still be irked he didnt hear sooner
i thought he looked pretty happy
to be the number one pick in the draft. don’t know how he felt about being part of The Rams Organization.
"SJAX" - The extra strength cleaner that fights off that Stubborn, Stingy Defense
i want to move
back into the first round. also if we could move up for clausen, if I didn’t hate clausen i would wonder if the browns are still interested in trading
Keith Null won't accept my friend requests.
Why would we need Clausen?
If we trade back in, it’s for either Weatherspoon or Bryant, I think.
"And on the first day of Spring, number one has fallen."
No, its done. Lets not get stupid
Unless of course, we got their next two drafts which was reported earlier :)
Sam Bradford
I'm not sure i even would want that
it’s time to take a necessary risk and start developing a qb
was just dreaming of
clausen, haden, and the browns 1st or 2nd next year…but I think it has to be bradford and not clausen anyways
Keith Null won't accept my friend requests.

will be on the trading block now, 4th rounder? 5th?

Weird first round
I like it.
You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.
At least more fun than the 6-hour first round a few years ago.
Or 5-hour, or something ridiculous like that.
"And on the first day of Spring, number one has fallen."
TENN just got great value with Morgan
Sam Bradford
TENN just got great value with Morgan

The 40Whiners are hatable, Clausen is hatable.
Good fit (if it happens).
"And on the first day of Spring, number one has fallen."
wow Lupati to the niners
going o line
Sam Bradford
No
don’t think they can afford a first round qb, I see them taking a guy later if they do
doubt it
they still have benny. don’t think they will be able to trade him

just wanted to see what everyone thought
Plus they have Leftwich, Batch and Dixon along with big ben. Highly unlikely unless they feel hes just too good to pass up
Sam Bradford
god damnit with the double posts
sorry

Weatherspoon to Atlanta?
’fraid it might happen.
"And on the first day of Spring, number one has fallen."
i love this
Atlanta key losses:
Tye Hill
Sam Bradford
DAMN!!!
"Twin-headed infinite swirling vortex of grotesque suckitude known as Tony Clark and Eric Byrnes"
I guess we'll get Dezzy Dez Dez Bryant.
That’s fine by me. Dezzy Dez Dez and Iron Sam would be a pretty tight class for this first night (that’s if we do decide to trade back in, or if he somehow falls to Round 2).
"And on the first day of Spring, number one has fallen."
I'm guessing were going to miss on Bryant
as well, I think he might go to the Bengals
So if we don't get Dezzy Dez Dez, who are we looking at in the second round as a possibiltiy?
"And on the first day of Spring, number one has fallen."
well here we go
lets see these last few picks
Sam Bradford
is there any good in a comparison to tye hill?
unless hes playing for the shehawks
I got
Pats, Broncos, Ravens, and Cowboys as possible WR pickers. I think either the Pats or Broncos will go Tebow, Ravens will prob go Kyle Wilson, and Cowboys Taylor Mays
gresham, yes
although denver might be trading back up to get bryant
Sam Bradford
OU is getting a ton of picks tonight.
Shows how bad Bob Stoops is, this man has all these NFL guys (and I know Iron Sam was out) and still underachieves so badly.
"And on the first day of Spring, number one has fallen."
Broncos gotta be going D
to jump in front of Green Bay
Denver moving up for Bryant?
Replace Marshall
by Ramfan from Seattle on Apr 22, 2010 8:42 PM CDT reply actions
dang it
im nervous again, please let dez fall!
NO!!!
Gresham gone. Dang.
Trade back in 2nd round to let someone take McCoy or Tebow (or Clausen if still around).
i think they are taking thomas
just shook hands with all his boys
Sam Bradford
we edge ever so closer
come on rams move back in
Gotta get on the phone
and try to move up to get Bryant, or hope he falls
yeah they got Boldin
and remember why boldin was unhappy in ARZ, because he wasn’t the main guy all the time. Dont want to make him upset
Sam Bradford
I doubt it
I think the boldin move solidifies their WR
If not Ravens...Dolphins...or falls to us
I didn’t want a WR, but he may be bpa.
don't count it out
I could see them adding Bryant to pair with Boldin for Wacko Flacco

It would be a pretty good combo
But that is a defensive and running team. I think they’ll be happy with their current WRs
Guesses on packers?
Maybe Bulaga, he looks like a packer
by Ramfan from Seattle on Apr 22, 2010 8:48 PM CDT reply actions
Wow Thomas???
Didn’t see that coming. Why trade up to grab him when you know that Bryant still available? Not sure that made a whole lot of sense.
I hope we don't take Bryant. He might forget to show up to the games
Yes, I actually wore a watermelon on my head during the Rams SuperBowl victory in 2000.
well i think it's
a big deal but not something that can’t be fixed, hes no crabtree
The thing I'm worried about with Dez...
is that if we did get him, that’d be two picks early in the draft on people who didn’t play last season.
"And on the first day of Spring, number one has fallen."
At least Dez wasn't injured and was still able to workout fully.
I don’t know if he did, but he had the opportunity
jesus...
jamie dukes is an idiot
Lombardi makes a great point about Tebow, and all Dukes does is repeat the same sentence he uttered a few minutes ago.
kampman Jr going to GreenBay
"SJAX" - The extra strength cleaner that fights off that Stubborn, Stingy Defense
didnt TST mock draft
have Clausen as the number 1 pick?
Starting to feel a little unsatisfied
If Bradford only QB taken in first round, we coulda had Clausen or McCoy with 2nd pick and Suh first.
Maybe Arizona will make me feel a little happier.
to me
that just says Bradford was hands down best QB in the draft
Brian B. Please learn to tie a tie
you can google it.

"SJAX" - The extra strength cleaner that fights off that Stubborn, Stingy Defense

maybe we'll draft Clausen then trade Bradford to Cleveland
I can always hope

Yes, I actually wore a watermelon on my head during the Rams SuperBowl victory in 2000.
damn actually, that would be a hell of a pick
Sam Bradford
McShay keeps talking about Pats to get Dez...
This is funny, he’s completely oblivious to the trade.
"And on the first day of Spring, number one has fallen."
you know, we are gonna have a lot better options at that 2nd pick than we thought
gonna get some great offers. Hopefully a team will overspend heavily
Sam Bradford
i bet the rams weren't even thinking about dez bryant
I mean when have they actually done anything that we thought was a good move on this site lol. We are like 1/20 in picking the rams moves
Sam Bradford
Berman was getting pissed there.
He knew the cameras were showing them all talking, but the cameras weren’t supposed to be on them so he’s signaling to cut it and it didn’t work.

Dan Williams, Sergio Kindle, Jahvid Best, or Everson Griffen

NO NO NO NO WRS THIS YEAR.

We already drafted Bradford first overall, let's stop with the stupid picks please
Yes, I actually wore a watermelon on my head during the Rams SuperBowl victory in 2000.
Give it up
Clausen is not better and at least 20 other teams don’t think he’s worth their pick. I do agree no WRs should be taken this year, and I’ve preached that for months.
Avery, Robinson, Gilyard, Burton would be really good.
I loved Danny Amendola, but the fact is, Gilyard would be better at WR and as a returner.
"And on the first day of Spring, number one has fallen."
Honestly, I think Burton's better.
Right now it’s all speculation, but I think Burton would come away with the job if Gilyard were to be drafted. I’m not really sure though, they are both really close.
"And on the first day of Spring, number one has fallen."
So we take a QB #1
and then give him a group of #2 WR’s to throw to? We need Gilyard or Damian Williams
They're also #2's
Williams could be like a Bruce type, but that is not the prototype number 1 of today’s game.
I think they both have #1 potential
and Benn to forgot about him
well it'll be interesting to see
who squeaks out of tonight without a team

I think if
we are going to take a WR, Benn from Illinois is the one i would want, nice size
Or we could wait longer and take Danario Alexander.
He will be really good in the pros, and a great steal in the third or fourth round.
"And on the first day of Spring, number one has fallen."
i bet he wont be picked until 5-7 range
Sam Bradford
Benn can't beat press coverage.
He hasn’t been able to get open against a tough corner in press coverage his entire career. When he went to Illinois he was going to be all world, but he wasn’t close. I sure hope we don’t even think about taking him. He’s another of these guys who look good at the Combine, but can’t do it during a game.
god i do not want to wait for another day
Sam Bradford
is kindle a LB or DE?
I mean hes best suited for a 3-4 imo
Sam Bradford
Im still excited about

I hope we trade back a bit and maybe Griffen or hughes will still be there
…but we take Kindle if he lasts and Best, too
hughes would be cool, kindle obviously, but please not Griffen

So whats everyone's HONEST thoughts on Bradford
"The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall." - Vince Lombardi
I'm afraid of the shoulder.
But the nickname “Iron Sam” is so awesome that this pick is awesome.

he's now a Ram so he's family.. but start immediately?
"The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall." - Vince Lombardi
no way
let Null or Feeley start 3-5 games or until bradford is ready
You know there gonna say that the best player is gonna play
I hope he can beat out AJ Feely and Null
I'm also surprised at Clausen's fall.
I never thought he’d be better than third round, but I was thinking maybe some GM’s would be dumb enough to take him earlier. I still think he’ll be overdrafted in the second round.
"And on the first day of Spring, number one has fallen."
Tebow before Clausen... shock
"The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall." - Vince Lombardi
Yeah, Tebow going that high is a joke.
But perhaps he could end up like Brad Smith (the Tebow-like QB who played at Mizzou who is now a WR for the Jets and a good return man) and find a different position, or maybe he’ll succeed at QB.

there's going to be way
too much talent for the rams to trade down
Isn't it the opposite?
If there’s a bunch of talent, trade down and you’ll still get someone good. You pick if the talent drops off.

No way you can predict who's gonna go where
We could have picked Suh and Clausen and McCoy could have gone earlier than expected and then we find ourselves with no QB. We had to bite on a QB if we couldn’t trade down and thats what we did. I for one am happy with what we got and Hopefully we’ll have a brighter future because of it

the game detroit had against cleveland and stafford seperated his shoulder and then came back on the field and threw the winning touchdown, to me thats why the rams needed to take a qb this year
but hopefully he
throws lots of game winning touchdowns

I thought a lot of guys were going to fall to us, and since pick 24, 6 players I really wanted are now gone. I don’t feel quite as good about it now, but there’s still lots of talent there.
we should trade with someone who needs QB
Vikings going below us gives us good leverage
