Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

When all is said and done, what do you "hope" happens this weekend?

There's been a lot of chippy-ness going on, and some general infighting as we have all settled into our various draft hope camps.  There's the Bradfords, the Suhs, the Trade-downs, and even the occasional Clausen.  But even though we express it all differently, at least deep down we believe we know what is best for the Rams in general.  So I'm just curious as we sit here on NFL Draft eve, what do you sincerely hope happens tomorrow?  Not what you think the press or public wants to happen, just what you think is the best for the team.

I'll kick it off.

My ideal situation, we draft Suh, trade for Campbell, pick up McCoy/Pike whoever a try as our qb of the future, or decide to find our quarterback next year.  I have all sorts of reasons for this desire, the Bradford/Clausen fans, have their own reasons as well.

So lets here ye, what do you "hope" happens this weekend?

Honestly

I would like us to draft Suh……Here is my reasoning why…. I wont even go there but with Bradford on the board for the Browns to snagg that would cause a frenzy that we have not seen in years and I honestly believe the Jimmy C would slip into the Late 1st or 2nd Round. If we could grab him about 24 with Suh That Would Be My IDEAL Draft

dream draft

if i had my way, campbell and haynesworth would have been a part of the trade with the redskins. the skins really wanted carriker and clearly do NOT want campbell nor haynesworth. it obviously would have taken carriker plus a pick or two, but i think it could have been done. maybe carriker and the first pick of the 3rd rd? i think they would have been in a great position if they could have traded carriker for campbell straight up. that didn’t happen, so anyhow…
i am still holding out hope that the rams make a trade for campbell, with the reported price tag being a 4th or 5th. in addition, it seems that spags is interested in osi umenyiora, who would also command a 4th or so. if the rams used their 1st pick to draft suh, then their second pick to take arrelious benn, and their third to take the best TE available, with osi and campbell added using 4th/5th rd picks, i think the rams would have had a VERY successful draft.
can you imagine, though, if the rams could have ended up after the draft with suh, haynesworth and osi to add to chris long? now that would have been something special!

I honestly would like to trade down with Cleveland

Take Derrick Morgan at #7, see if Clausen or McCoy drops to the second round and take either one. Use the extra pick we got from Cleveland at #38 for Jahvid Best. First pick in the third round for the best OLB available (Rennie Curran?) and the extra pick in the third round from Cleveland for say……Lamarr Houston (the DT from Texas). First pick in the 4th round for best TE available (Dennis Pitta?) Then the two picks in the 5th round for Roderick Muckelroy and the best offensive tackle available. After that it’s all BP’sA. After that sprinkle in a wide reciever and offensive guard here and there and we should be golden!

Draft Suh or Trade down ...

either is fine with me.

… oh, and don’t draft a WR unless one drops really far. There are no #1’s so why bother?

A trade down should net us Clausen or Derrick Morgan and best with our second 2nd would be slick.

I don’t care if we draft colt McCoy or wait til next year.

I am pretty sure we are drafting Suh and trading for Campbell. It makes too much sense not to.

i hope you are right

i also can see NO good reason NOT to draft suh and trade for campbell… NONE! i hope the rams front office sees this too and the sam bradford nonsense is all posturing

The Rams are saying the DT class this year

is very deep and there will be quality starters still available in the 4th round. I heard Devaney say exactly that this morning. If you can get a quality starting DT in the 4th round, why pass on your franchise QB to take a DT with the 1st pick (even though admittedly he is the best one out there).? They truly believe the DT stock is by far the deepest of any position in this draft. Another of the interviews this morning agreed and named some quality guys he felt would be there in the 4th. Just something to factor in when you guess who they are going to pick.

by andyrose on Apr 22, 2010 12:02 PM CDT up reply actions

You don't pass on your franchise QB ... if you think Bradford or Clausen are that guy.

… that’s the whole point of this Bradford vs Suh debate.

We have drawn our lines and nobody is going to convince someone on the other side to see the light so to speak.

He’s an interesting thing to chew on: We have people that are for and against Bradford but is there anybody really against Suh? Aren’t the Bradford people just for Bradford more than Suh while many of the Suh people are actually against Bradford?

I’m going to start drinking early just in case they announce Bradford’s name for the Rams … to help dull the pain of course. :)

dream draft #2

assuming no trades for veterans…
take bradford with the 1st pick. when cleveland is getting close to being on the clock, have them draft either clausen or—in my ideal world—eric berry with their pick and trade bradford for their player plus a 2nd and 4th. if the rams got berry from cleveland, then take colt mccoy with 2nd rd pick; if clausen, hopefully demaryius thomas is still on the board. with clevelands 2nd rd pick daryl washington-OLB- would be a great complement to laurinaitis. with the rams 3rd rd pick hopefully aaron hernandez is on the board to be an impact/explosive TE. with the rams 4th rd pick, javier arenas and with the browns 4th rd pick select myron rolle—this might be a reach, but i think that you can’t go wrong with a player/person like myron rolle on the team. 5th rd picks: joe mcknight, clifton geathers, geno atkins. 6th/7th rd: best player available.

by mcihaelT on Apr 22, 2010 2:15 AM CDT reply actions

Trade down

This is pure fantasy and never going to happen, but your question allowed my mind to wander…

I’d firstly trade with Clevedon, for a 1st, 2nd and two 3rds (picks 7, 38, 71 & 92).

Then trade the #7 pick for Denver’s 2 second rounders and third (picks 43, 45 & 80).

I’d trade our second 5th round pick to trade with the Skins for Jason Campbell and pick 163 (they owe us something already out of the Carriker trade).

Then package pick #92 from Cleveland with our two 5ths, 6th and two 7th round picks to trade up for the Colts 2rd rounder (pick #63).

We then have picks 33, 38, 43, 45, 63, 65, 71, 80 and 92 in rounds 2 and 3 and the first pick in the 4th round (pick 99), plus a QB capable of starting this year.

We’d be down on the value using traditional draft pick values, but with picks between #33 and #99, we should be able to address OT, OG, TE, RB, OLB x2, DT, DE, CB & S. Some (4 or 5 at least) of these could surely start and upgrade our current starters. We then get a QB in 2011, even if we have to mortgage the farm for our top choice, and we have saved a putt load of salary to dip into FA after the draft.

This would never happen, but it was a chance to dream for a bit…

A more realistic hope would be a round one trade with Cleveland and take Morgan, Spiller or Clausen at #7. Then accept a monster trade for the #33 (I’d look for a 1st next year and pick(s) this year to help address franchise QB and #1 WR in the 2011 draft).

Or

Take Bradford and he becomes better than Aikman and Manning combined.

by RamintheUK on Apr 22, 2010 2:25 AM CDT up reply actions

I don't think he believes it

But if we take him we can live in hope right?

by Stonedtodeath on Apr 22, 2010 2:46 AM CDT reply actions

I hope it goes like this...

Trade down from 1.
Get picks this year and next.
then draft like the below.
Our pick number is shown, not the round!
Draft Clausen. (Our new lower 1st pick)
Draft Gresham. (Our new higher 2nd pick)
Draft bpa from this group: OLB, DT, DE (3,4,5)
Draft bpa from this group: OLB, CB, S, RB (6,7,8)
Draft bpa from this group: WR, OT, OG/C (9.10.11)

11 Picks and a shot at Clausen and Gresham by trading the 1.

The blind stares of a million pairs of eyes, lookin hard but won't realize, that they'll never see the C. And when I'm rollin by, you can't see me!

Complete dream scenario but here goes

1st round – Sam Bradford

2nd round – trade back with Cleveland or Buffalo who will make a move for either Colt McCoy or Tim Teboy for their 2nd round pick plus a 3rd rounder. Take the best WR available at that spt – Arrellious Benn, Demarius Thomas or Damian Williams.

3rd round – Now we have 2 picks. First pick take Navarro Bowman OLB from Penn St. (first round talent with pretty minor character flaw). Trade second pick along with late rounder to Washington for Albert Haynesworth.

4th round – Best TE available

5th round – First pick, trade to NY Giants for Osi Umenyiora. Second pick, a change of pace back for SJax – possibly Montario Hardesty (if he falls) or Lonyae Miller from Fresno St.

6th and 7th round – may have traded some picks for Haynesworth but just pick up best available in defensive secondary and o-line.

Draft

Colts took Manning with #1 pick and were still bad the next year. Now Colts are one of top NFL teams. It was those picks in later rd’s that made them great.
Here’s to good choices in rd’s 2 on.

by rlf707 on Apr 22, 2010 9:30 AM CDT reply actions

How about this scenario with no trades...

…use the picks we have straight up and choose accordingly:

1. Sam Bradford (QB)
2. Brian Price (DT)
3. Rennie Curran (OLB)
4. Dennis Pitta (TE)
5. Roddrick Muckelroy (OLB)
5. Brandon Lang (DE)
6. Deji Kariim (RB)
7. Shelley Smith (OG)
7. Kam Chancellor (S)
7. Adam Ulatoski (OT)

If we have to pick Bradford, I like the way the rest of your draft falls out. I like Curran

After listening to Devaney today,

I think the Rams are taking a DT somewhere in the middle of the draft. I can’t tell you who or when, but it sure sounded like that was gonna happen.

by andyrose on Apr 22, 2010 12:07 PM CDT up reply actions

That has been my suspicion for a while

because of all the talk of a deep defensive draft and the Rams guys being defensive specialists. On the other hand, if you can’t get your offense late but you have needs….I guess you get them early. Just kind of make ssense from the value standpoint, that this team really needs to wring out of every pick. I can barely wait!

Ideally

BPA in order of need – OLB/DE/TE/S/WR
1st – Suh
2nd – McCoy (may need to trade back into the 1st before Minnesota selects)
3rd – RB from Stanford (kid’s a beast)
4th – Trade for Osi (Giants will give him up for no less than a 4th)
5th – BPA
2nd 5th – BPA
6th – BPA
2nd 6th – BPA
7th – Traded to Wash with Null for Campbell
2nd 7th – BPA
3rd 7th – BPA

I hope that we trade down with Cleveland and get Berry or Dez Bryant and take best player

with the extra picks. If Clausen is still there at 7, which he probably will be, I would try and trade down some more and take Pierre-Paul, Weatherspoon, or Gresham and take best player with the extra picks.

Both situations are good for me.

Only five players have averaged 25 and 10 in their playoff careers. One of them, Dirk Nowitzki.

Just heard an interview with a teacher from Univ of Florida and national correspndant for NCAA Football - Clausen, Dez, Tebow

This guy besides teaching at Florida he covers NCAA Football nationally, he was just on Rome, and I missed his name.

He said Dez Bryant’s team kept coaches standing near him on the sideline all the time because they needed to talk to him to explain the plays, because he wasn’t getting it. He said that concerned him very much, at least as much as the fact that he is very immature. Said he’s not a evil kid and hasn’t hurt anyone, but very immature and won’t be places on time, etc. and that won’t change right away when he gets hsi money,

Said Tebow will need a good locker room where jealousy won’t be a problem because Tebow (because of who he is and the non-football things he does) is going to continue to get a lot of attention as a backup QB. Thinks it’ll be round 2 for Tebow.

Said he thinks Clausen “could” fall to the bottom of the first as a worst case, depending on team’s needs, but is too talented to make it to round 2. “Will he be great? I don’t know, there’s some issues there. But he’s very talented.”

Damn I wish I got the guy’s name but I missed it.

I was listening to ESPN radio this morning.

They said when Bryant was here for his visit he acted like a diva and turned everyone off.

He also missed a flight that a team had set up for him. Huge turnoff
