Today's trade rumor
During this time of crazy rumors, player trades, RFA tender singings, etc., there also seems to be a realigning of expectations from teams on just exactly what value in the draft they can expect in return for a player trade.
Examples include the recent McNabb and Marshall trades where teams received basically 2nd rounders in return. Now we are hearing that other players may only now be worth a 3rd or possibly a 4th rounder?
Here is the scenario I expect to transpire on draft day combined with two players on the trading block who I feel would be great additions to the Rams.
First, the #33 pick will be traded. I have no doubts. I expect that the Rams will receive a nice package for that pick. We will "slide down" a few picks (?) in the 2nd and pick up and extra pick (or 2). I am hoping (jeje) that we pick up an extra 3rd rounder so that we can keep, for ourselves, the first pick a top the 3rd round.
Here is where I get to play Billy D. and a trade comes in. The two players I really like and would like to see in a Rams uniform this season are:
1) Tony Scheffler (TE) from Denver
2) Albert Haynesworth (DT) from Washington
Scheffler could easily become Bradford's favorite and most realiable target. What a nice gift for the incoming Rams QB. Haynesworth, a Pro Bowl player, could fill the "I want Suh drafted" crowd and with our organization's connection with people in Washington (Haslett) we could and should include Carriker as part of the trade package.
One or both? It is possible....
GO RAMS !!!!

Scheffler!
I like your line of thought. Now that Marshall is gone, I truly hope we can land Scheffler. We need a top TE in our WCO system! I would offer them our 3rd round pick and see what happens. Have you heard anything about the Rams being interested in Scheffler or is this just a scenario you would like to see?
Did you read the big article on Haynesworth today?
It said that many NFL guys think he is motivated entirely by money, and now that the Redskins have given him a ton of it, he no longer feels the need to play hard. That wouldn’t change if he were here since he just got $31 million in the last year alone, and his salary for the next few years is still pretty huge. They feel he will be a lazy, unmotivated player no matter which coach he plays for. It doesn’t sound like trading for him would be a great move.
I can see that as reality
That’s always been my beef w/these players who sign for a boatload and play like crap. More incentive based w/higher payouts for these guys. Keeps them motivated.
I think he’d only end up w/~ 12M$ after uncle Sam, his agent, the NFLPA, and what not get their share. Still, compare that to what Farragamo got from the Rams in ’82; 45k$/yr.
Unfortunately there are players in every sport that are like that.
I don’t see how anyone can be like that. If you can get that far in your career you obviously put in a good deal of work to get there. There is natural talent but there is still a lot of work to be done to get the most out of that talent. I don’t get how someone can not try. You get paid to play football. How do you not enjoy that and give it your best every game of the year?
good article, but i disagree with "i have no doubt the 33rd pick will be traded"
really did you talk to Billy Devaney?
"You’ve got to play every game like it’s your last because it’s definitely survive-and-advance or don’t survive and school," Tiller said.
While there is a chance the 33rd will be traded,
it is far from certain. What if one of the really solid guys we like somehow falls to that spot? If we can draft someone we thought was a solid first round guy at one of our positions of greatest need, it would take a whole lot to get us to trade. It could happen, especially since it will be the first pick of the day, but it isn’t certain.
Last year the panthers traded this years 1st rounder to move up in the 2nd for everette brown so to me anything seems possible at that spot
Per fas et nefas - Latin translation="By Any Means Necessary"
I agree, especially this year
where there is a long time (overnight) to think about it. I think the chances of trading the 33 are very high. There will probably be a concensus 1st round talent that slipped, and all 32 teams will have a chance to think about it.
The blind stares of a million pairs of eyes, lookin hard but won't realize, that they'll never see the C. And when I'm rollin by, you can't see me!
