edpjr gives it up...

As of today I'm taking a break from TST. That should make alot of folks on here, especially those lost in a fantasy world, quite happy. Having been a Rams fan for 41 years, I've seen this team be great, good, mediocre and bad. But I've never seen such a sorry effort as has been made in the last three seasons: 3-13, 2-14, 1-15.  Those are 1970s Tampa Bay and New Orleans type records, not befitting the Rams winning legacy. What a shame that the two aforementioned teams have each won a Super Bowl since the Rams were any good.

There are a few people on this site that are realists. They don't have blind child-like faith in a management and coaching staff that has proven absolutely nothing. But, the vast majority of TST posters are insanely optimistic with no basis for their rose-colored glasses. They routinely defend idiotic management and coaching decisions and find excuses for bad play.  They idolize a rookie head coach that went 1-15, partly due to his own idiotic decision making on the field. Nobody blows a gasket when our division rivals, who are not exactly powerhouses, not only routinely beat us, but humiliate us. You'd think some of the principals on this site worked for or were somehow sponsored by the Rams organization.

Conversely, I get angry and disappointed when my lifelong NFL team is a laughing stock. And I don't see things getting any better with the rebuilding plan that's been put in motion.  That plan seems to be to grab as many 6-7th round castoffs and otherwise worthless players as possible. And no club can screw up a draft selection like the Rams. Everyone says wait a few years more. For what? For SJax to be past his prime???

I wish the Rams the best. But I'm done....

We'll welcome you back when we're winning again.

I respect that you’ve been a fan for so long, but smearing our belief that this team is at least on the right path is somewhat, I don’t know, bothersome? I think they’ll start winning sooner than you think.

In Winston Churchill's words :

Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.

Been a Rams’ fan since 1990 (Watched Superbowl XXIV, then of all teams decided I would support the Rams, not knowing I’d have to suffer 9 straight losing seasons…)

GO RAMS !!!!

I have to respect all Rams fans but...

I really, truely don’t believe a “real” fan gives up on his team because of a rough patch. I can understand frustration and expressing concern. We all remember the 90’s, that wasn’t exactly great times for Rams fans either. After all when the going gets tough, we quit on our team? Wait, what

I hate to see us lose a fan, but I can’t say that I agree with giving up on your/our team like this. So you say you are frustrated with Rams fans who don’t blow a gasket when getting battered by rivals, I think there should be some Rams fans that are frustrated with you. I really don’t believe any Ram fan enjoys us seeing getting beat by any team, by any amount, but when it’s all said and done, WE ARE RAMS FANS, so we stick by our team. We don’t quit on the Rams! Ever!

I sure you have a change of heart, and I will welcome you back when that day comes, but until that day arrives I guess you can root for the Vikings or some other team that is good right now.

"We all remember the 90’s,"

So do Dallas Mavericks’ fans. Look at what they have done since then. Playoffs every year since 00-01.

Only five players have averaged 25 and 10 in their playoff careers. One of them, Dirk Nowitzki.

edpjr-Thick and Thin Buddie

I have been a Rams fan for 22 of the 32 years of my life and am also growing tired of losing. However, I made it through the 90’s and I am guessing I will make it through this. Don’t worry; if we go 0-16 or 1-15 again I am guessing they will shake it up again, sooner rather than later. Maybe we will see the wrath of Kahn! Hope it wasn’t my replies that pushed you over the edge. Haha! I am going to try to see the good in all of this and from now on I am putting on the heart shaped rose colored glasses given to me by Tackle Box. Go Rams!

"They don't have blind child-like faith in a management and coaching staff that has proven absolutely nothing."

You do realize Devaney’s only been here for one year and has done a good job considering what he had to work with it. We did go from 2 wins to 1, but do you really think last year’s team was less talented than the 08 team?

Some people think the Orlando Magic are more talented than last year, but that doesn’t mean they will go further in the playoffs.

I do enjoy me some edpjr style.

edpjr you add greatly to my experience here and I hope one day you awake and decide to leave the quitter hat in the closet. Your doomsday predictions had fully formed thoughts once in a while, which was nice compared to some crackpots that are virtually unreadable. Come back and play soon, Ed!

In any event, I have been a Rams fan since the 1970’s. I have to be optomistic to a degree, most coaches teach never quitting, but I think I’m real about the team’s condition and the moves they make.

I think people can expect me to take the optomistic attitude as often as I can without deluding myself. But that’s just what you’d expect from me anyway, right?

by CoachConnors on Mar 9, 2010 11:51 AM CST reply actions

I was going to say "Don't let the door hit you on the way out"...but

I realized that every group has a pessimist. In fact, I would not expect anything less from you.
Just remember- A man is defined in how he reacts to adverse situations!
Wish you well you old crack pot. You will need somewhere to vent, and what better place than TST?
See you after the draft.

I will miss the anger

I feel like a poem.

His name was Ed. His face was green. I know not whence he came.
He feels the stain and pounds of pain lo his Rams are such a shame.
And now he walks into the sun, a voice that shall be missed.

You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

Bulger is the greatest Rams QB ever. Chris Long is a stud DE. The Rams have drafted well in recent years, examples: Adam Carriker, Tye Hill, Joe Klopfenstein, Brian Leonard.

Sorry to see you go edjpr...

….but keep in mind, the 90’s were a hell of a lot worse than the 2000’s. Don’t forget the 17 straight losses to the Whiners.

We last made the playoffs in 2004 and just missed the playoffs by one game 3 years ago. Our record shows us as a bad team but honestly, how many times were we still in the thick of things until late in the 4th quarter or the last drive of the game?

I don’t know about you but I think Rams games are still exciting to watch and it really bothers me out here in So Cal where there is still a huge contingent of Rams fans that unless we have Sunday Ticket or go to the sports bar, we can’t get the Rams-Niners, Rams-Seachickens or Rams-Cards game televised. Instead we get the Eagles vs Vikings or some crappy game like that….

Have faith in your front office, “rookie coach” and fans. We will turn this around!
GO RAMS!!!

Seems like a rather negative perspective to me

This team could have Sam Bradford, who’s being compared to Peyton Manning, at QB next season. It would seem that an excellent QB and RB on the same team could make good things happen.

by RamChop on Mar 13, 2010 11:43 PM CST reply actions

How does a banged up guy with okay arm strength get compared to Peyton Manning?

Only five players have averaged 25 and 10 in their playoff careers. One of them, Dirk Nowitzki.

Show me where you've seen Peyton Manning comparisons

Because I haven’t heard any unless you count BruinHalo’s.

by Carneros on Mar 14, 2010 11:37 PM CDT up reply actions

For one, Gil Brandt,

former exec with the Cowboys has said Bradford is the best college QB prospect since Manning. I heard it from another source whose name I didn’t catch on the radio the other day. They aren’t saying Bradford is equal to Manning today. They are saying he is the best QB prospect coming out of college since Manning when he came out of college.

by andyrose on Mar 15, 2010 11:01 AM CDT up reply actions

Yes, Brandt and while reading the Sports Illustrated blogs.

Note that I didn’t say I was buying the Bradford verus Manning line. However, Bradford looks to have the makings of a good NFL QB. He and Feeley should eliminate the need for Bulger, Boller and Null.

by RamChop on Mar 19, 2010 3:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe because the NFL guys know what it takes

to be a success in the NFL and see it in Bradford. Manning doesn’t have a rocket arm either.

by andyrose on Mar 14, 2010 5:51 PM CDT reply actions

Manning doesn't have rocket arm

funny joke.
